The invention relates to a grave marker and more especially to a metallic waterproof grave marker.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a marker of this character, wherein the same is made entirely from metal and is equipped with a removable panel adapted for marking with identifying matter such as the name of a deceased person, the date of death, birth date, age, et cetera. The panel is made from sheet metal and is releasably held in a carrier, the marking of the panel being effected in any desirable manner.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a marker of this character, wherein the same is constructed with the least number of parts and is readily and easily assembled for the display of indicia at .a grave and the marking.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a marker of this character, which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and effective in operation, neat in appearance, waterproof, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture and install. I
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred and modified forms of embodiment of the inventionas pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a grave marker constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional View on the line 2 -2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a view similar to a modified form of marker.
Figure 5 is a sectional view on the line 5--5 of Figure 4.
Figure 6 is a sectional Figure 4.
Referring to the drawing in detail, particularly Figures 1 to 3 inclusive, the grave marker comprises a carrier A in the form of a sheet metal body I0 having a forwardly and laterally curled edge ll marginally thereof to effect a substantially rectangular shaped inset area or center portion I2 for accommodating a removable panel or indicia plate l3 hereinafter fully described.
Thepanel or plate l3 has formed at one end edge outwardly projecting keeper ears or tongues l4 while at the opposite end is a spring latch IS, the ears or tongues l4 being accommodated in keeper slots l6 provided in the body Ill. The
View on the line 3-3 of Figure 1 showing view on the line 66 of latch I5 is engageable through an opening I! provided in said body II] for latching with the edge I8 of the center portion l2 and in this manner the panel or plate I3 is separably fitted in the carrier A.
The panel or plate at its outermost or ex posed face carries suitable indicia or obituary data, for example, the name of the deceased at E9, the date of death at 20 of such deceased, the date of birth at 2| and the age at 22 of such deceased. This indicia may include the name of the undertaker as at 23 if desired. Of course, the indicia appearing on the outer face of the panel or plate l3 can be altered or changed according to the wishes of the user of the marker. 15
The carrier A has fixed thereto at its back preferably centrally thereof a stake or anchoring upright 24 preferably made from flat sheet metal having a pointed penetrating end 25 so that it can be readily forced into the ground for anchoring 20 purposes in the marking of .a grave,
In Figures 4 to 6 inclusive of the drawing, there is shown a slight modification of the invention, wherein at the four corners of the body 26 of the carrier next to the center inset 2! therein are outstruck lips 28 forming rearwardly there- 25 of in the body 26 slots or openings 29, these being adapted to releasably accommodate the four corners 30 of a panel or plate 3|, the latter being flexible so that the corners 30 can be tucked into the slots or openings 29 when separately fasten- 30 ing the said panel or plate 3| in place. The panel or plate 3| is adapted to carry on its exposed face suitable indicia for grave marking purposes.
The body, panel or plate and the stake or anchor 24 are preferably made from sheet metal so that the grave marker is waterproof, the essential feature of the said marker being the separable mounting of the panel or plate so that it can be properly marked with required indicia of a deceased person.
What is claimed is:
A grave marker comprising a body of sheet material having a flat center portion and an outwardiy and laterally curled unbroken edge entirely about and merging with the flat center 45 portion, said edge having slots next to the center portion, diagonally disposed and in spaced relation to each other, and a flexible indicia panel of a size corresponding to the flat center portion 50 of said body and having areas thereof next to the slots separably received therein with the edges of said panel between said areas contacting with the said curled edge, one of said panel areas constituting alatching tongue and engageable with 55 the body for releasably securing the panel in place.
