This invention relates to trays for holding dishes and which may be employed in a dish washing machine or may be used for dish draining and has for the primary object the provision of a simple and inexpensive device of this character which will permit free circulation of either water or air therethrough and about the dishes supportedthereby, said dishes being supported against breakage.

With these and other objects in View, this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating a tray constructed in accordance with my invention.

Figure 2 is a plan view showing the outer frame of the tray.

' Figure 3 is a plan view showing the inner frame of the tray and certain bars thereof partly removed therefrom.

Figure 4 is a view showing one of the sides of the inner frame.

Figure 5 is a View showing another side of the inner frame.

Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on the line 6-6 of Figure 1.

Figure '7 is a sectional view taken on the line 'I-| of Figure 1.

Referring in detail to the drawings, the nurectangular shape having secured to opposite walls thereof finger grips 2. The other pair of walls of the frame I are apertured to receive set bolts 3 for detachably securing in the frame I an inner frame 4. The lower edges of the outer frame have formed thereon inwardly extending flanges 5 forming rests for the inner frame 4. The inner frame 4 consists of connected members 5, 6, 1 and 8, which when inserted in the outer frame I engage with the flanges 5' and frictionally contact the walls of the frame I. The members 5 and 6 are opposed and the member 5 is of hollow formation and. has formed therein spaced openings 9 aligning with openings l0 formed in the member 6. The member 6 is of channeled formation closed by walls of the outer frame. The members 1 and 8 are opposed and the member 8 is of hollow formation and one wall thereof is provided with openings ll aligning with openings l2 in the member 1. The

The member 8 has the other stud bolts threaded thereto. Received in the openings of the members 5, 6, 1 and 8 are rods l4 certain of which are arranged at right angles to the others. The rods are arranged in three groups, one group carried by the members 5 and 6 and the other two groups carried by the members 1 and 8. The pair of groups of rods are arranged in superimposed relation above the rods carried by the members 5 and 6. The arrangement of the rods permits dishes to be stood on edge within the tray so that water may circulate about said dishes when the device is used in a washing machine or when used for draining dishes air may freely circulate about said dishes.

When the inner frame is removed from the outer frame the members 5 andB will permit the rods to be readily removed in an endwise direction. The members I and 8 are approximately the same height as the walls of the outer frame, while the members 5 and 6 are of a less height than the walls of theouter frame.

The members or sides 5 and 8 are fashioned with folded sections 511' and 8a respectively overlying the respective outer faces thereof and said folded sections engage the ends of the respective rods [4 whereby to align the respective opposite ends of the rods to permit insertion thereof together with the inner frame 4 within the outer frame I. The set bolts 3 serve to detachably secure the frames together to form a unitary device.

A brace l5 of channel formation rests upon certain of the flanges 5' and is apertured to permit the rods of the members 5 and 6 to extend therethrough. The rods of the members 5 and 6 bear the weight of the dishes placed in the tray.

Having described the invention, I claim:

1. A device of the character described, comprising, an outer frame, an inner frame detachably mounted in said outer frame, said inner frame having pairs of oppositely disposed sides, one pair fashioned with apertures, groups of horizontally extending spaced rods supported in said apertures one group above the other in spaced relation, another pair fashioned with apertures subjacent the lowermost group of said rods, spaced rods journaled in said last mentioned apertures and extending across said frame subjacent said lowermost group of rods and at right angles thereto whereby to support the weight of dishes and the like between and laterally engaged by said first mentioned groups of rods, one of the sides of each pair formed with a folded section overlying the respective outer face thereof and engaging ends of the respective rods whereby to align the respective opposite ends of the rods to permit insertion thereof together with said inner frame within said outer frame, and means detachably connecting said frames together to form a unitary device.

2. A device of the character described, comprising, an outer frame, an inner frame detachably mounted in said outer frame, said inner frame having pairs of oppositely disposed sides, one pair fashioned with apertures, groups of horizontally extending spaced rods supported in said apertures one group above the other in spaced relation, another pair fashioned with apertures subjacent the lowermost group of said rods, spaced rods journaled in said last mentioned apertures and extending across said frame subjacent said lowermost group of rods and at right angles thereto whereby to support the weight of dishes and the like between and laterally engaged by said first mentioned groups of JOSEPH EDWARD MANLEY.
