This invention relates to pipe cleaners and has for an object to provide a device of this character Which may be conveniently used to clear clogged drains of sinks, toilets, bath tubs, lavatories, and the like, without the use of a plunger or without removing any part of the plumbing.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will consist of a flexible coil of barbed wire provided at one end with a handle and at the opposite end with a hook, the coil being provided throughout its length with alternately arranged barbs and brushes which project beyond the coil for contact with the surface of the part being cleaned.

A further object is to provide a device of this character which will be formed of a few strong simple and durable parts, which will be inexpensive to manufacture, and which will not easily get out of order.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Figure 2 is an enlarged view of a portion of the barb wire coil showing the arrangement of the barbs and brushes.

Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts in the various views, I0 designates a flexible helical coil of conventional barb wire provided throughout its length with alternately arranged barbs II and bristles I2 clamped in place between a twist of the barb wire. One end of the coil is provided with a hook I3 forming a penetrating terminal for Working through a clogged up portion of a pipe when the coil is` twisted and forced into the pipe in the conventional manner.

The opposite end of the coil is free from barbs and bristles and forms a shank I4 having an eye I5 on the end to receive the intermediate portion of a handle I6 which is disposed transversely of the barb wire coil.

In use the hooked leading end of the pipe cleaner is trained into the pipe to be cleaned and pressure is exerted upon the coil to force it into the pipe and through clogged up places therein, the flexibility of the coil permitting the same to conform to the contour of curves in the pipe during the cleaning operation.

The barbs and brushes contact with the surface of the part being cleaned and effectively scrape and scour all clogging material therefrom.

From the above description it is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be fully understood without further explanation, except that while the device is shown of a certain length in the drawing it will be understood that it may be made any length.

What is claimed s:

A pipe cleaner for clearing clogged drains comprising a ilexible helical coil of barb Wire, bristles clamped in the coil at points spaced between adjacent barbs, o-ne end of the coil being free from barbs, and a handle disposed on the said end of the coil.
