UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PASTE DISPENSER William H. Coates, Montreal, Quebec, Canada Application March 22, 1987, Serial No. 132,381
2 Claims. (01. 221-60) This invention relates to paste dispensers espeand includes substantially rectangular-shaped cially adapted for dispensing dental, shaving or end plates 9 connected by rods l and also having facial creams without soiling the hands of the journaled in openings thereof a shaft II, one user and-has for the primary object the proend of which extends through the slot 1. The 5 vision of an efficient, durable and inexpensive extended end of the shaft has a finger piece I2 6 device of this character which will support and secured thereto. The shape of the plates 9 of the protect from foreign matter a collapsible tube frame 8 is such that the frame will be free to or container and its contents and has a simple slide in the casing but will be held against a manually actuated means to compress the tube rotary motion within the casing. Journaled on 10 for expelling the contents thereof in amounts as the rods II] are sleeves I3. The sleeves have 10 desired. mounted thereon cushion rollers M. The shaft With these and other objects in view, this in-. II is positioned above and between. the rollers vention consists in certain novel features of conand has a slot l5 to receive the non-open end of struction, combination and arrangement of parts the tube 6. In other words, the non-open end of to be hereinafter more fully described and the tube is passed through the slot l5 and bent 15 claimed. into engagement with the shaft it after being For a complete understanding of my invention, passed between the rollers It so that upon rotareference is to be had to the following description of the shaft H the container will be wound tion and accompanying drawing, in which on the shaft in a substantially flat condition, the Figure 1 is a front elevation partly in section rollers acting to compress the container or tube 20 illustrating a dispenser constructed in accordand consequently expel therefrom the contents.
ance with my invention. By controlling the rotation of the shaft II the Figure 2 is a side elevation illustrating the amount of the contents expelled from the condevice. tainer by the neck 5 'rnay be controlled. Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line A valve housing It is threaded on the neck 5 of 3- 3 of Figure 1. the container after the neck has been passed Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line through the closure 3 of the casing. A seat I! 2- 3 of Figure 1. is formed in the valve housing and. is engaged by Figure 5 is an end view illustrating a closure a shoulder it formed on an elastic sleeve l9 which valve employed in the construction of this deextends out of the valve housing. Aball 28 is 10- 30 vice. cated in the sleeve l9 and the diameter thereof is Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on the line slightly larger than the interior diameter of the 6-t of Figure 5. sleeve 19 so that said sleeve tightly fits the ball Figure '7 is a detail vertical sectional view illusand thereby forms a valve closure for the neck trating amoclified form of valve. 5 of the tube 6. The ball 20 is mounted on a Referring in detail to the drawing, the nurod 2| and the latter is secured to the flange I8 meral I indicates a casing having secured to its of the sleeve I!) by a cross rod 22. When presrear wall one of the sections of a wall clamp sure is applied to the contents of the tube, the 2 while the other section of the clamp is fascontents expands the sleeve l9 and passes about 40 tened to a wall or the like of a room so that the ball 20 to escape from said sleeve and as 40 the casing will be supported in a vertical posisoon as the pressure is released on the tube the tion. The bottom of the casing is in the form sleeve l9 contracts against the ball so as to close of a removable closure 3 held on the casing by the contents of the container against atmospheric spring catches 4 engaging in openings provided conditions and foreign matter. in walls of the casing. The bottom of the casing tead Of using the yp of Valve s Shown in has an opening to permit a discharge neck 5 of Figure a yp a Shown in Figure y be a collapsible tube 6 to extend therethrough when p y and consists of a valve s g 23 hav n said tube is arranged in the casing in an in a bore 24 extending therethrough and a porverted position. tion of which is screw threaded to thread onto A side wall of the casing has formed therein a the neck 5. A valve element 25 of the plug type slot 1 which opens outwardly through the lower is journaled in the valve housing Band has 9. end of the casing and is normally closed at said port 26 which may be p s o d nto and out of lower end of the casing by the closure 3. communication with the bore 24. A handle 21 is A frame 81s slidably mounted in the casing I secured to the valve element 25 whereby the 55 valve element may be rotated to open or close the valve housing 23.
When either of the valves, as shown in Figures 6 and 7 is applied to the neck of the tube 6. it will prevent said tube from becoming disarranged in the casing I and provides a simple means which will permit the easy removal and replacement'of a tube in the casing when desired.
What is claimed is:
l. A' paste dispenser comprising a vertically arranged casing having a removable bottom provided with an opening to receive a neck of a collapsible tube with the latter arranged in an inverted position within said casing, a frame slidable in said casing, said casing having a slot, spaced cushion rollers carried by said frame and receiving therebetween the tube, a shaft journaled in said frame and extending through the slot and having a slot to receive one end of the tube, a finger piece secured to said shaft whereby the tube may be wound on the shaft to bring about expelling of the co tents of the tube by the rollers, a valve housing threaded onto the.
' neck and against the cover and having a seat, an
elastic sleeve extending out of said valve housing and having a flange to engage the seat, and a ball supported in the sleeve and of a diameter slightly greater than the interior diameter of the sleeve.
2. A paste dispenser comprising a vertically arranged casing having a removable bottom provided with an opening to receive a neck of a collapsible tube with the latter arranged in an inverted position within said casing, a frame slidable in said casing, said casing having a slot,
spaced cushion rollers carried by said frame and receiving therebetween the tube, a shaft journaled in said frame and extending through the slot and having a slot to receive oneend of the tube, a finger piece secured to said shaft whereby the tube may be wound on the shaft to bring about expelling of the contents of the tube by the rollers, a valve housing threaded onto the neck and against the cover and having a seat,'
an elastic sleeve extending out of said valve housing and having a flange to engage the seat, a valve housing threaded on the neck against the cover and having a bore therethrough, a valve element for opening and closing the bore and journaled in said valve housing, and a finger piece securedto said valve element.
