'I'his invention relates to improvements in show cases;
An object of this invention is to provide, in a unitary structure, means for the storage, display, and demonstration of articles of merchandise.
A further object of this invention is to provide, 1n a show case, maximum facilities for both display and storage, with the storage facilities normally positioned back of, or behind the display portions, but instantly and easily available without necessitating the disturbance, or removal, of the articles on display.
A still further object of this invention is to provide, in cO-operation with a storage and display case, a convertible section which may be devoted to either special displays of merchandise, or demonstration programs featuring merchandise displayed on the case.
These, and other objects and advantages of this invention, will be more completely disclosed and described in the following specification, the accompanying drawings, and the appended claims.
Broadly, this invention comprises a frame structure in two sections separated by an alcove, each section having an upper and a lower cabinet portion, drawers slidably supported in the upper and lower cabinet portions, theydrawers in the lower cabinets being progressively variable in length and depth from top to bottom, all of the A drawers being provided with a shelf portion projecting outwardly beyond the front face of the drawer, display cases and shelves built into the .frame between the upper and lower cabinet portions, a revolvable platform removably secured in the alcove between the sections for movable or rotatable displays, whereby when the platform is removed, the alcove is available for use as a demonstration booth.
A preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:-
Fig. 1 is a plan view of theshow case.
Fig. 2 is a front elevational View.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view, taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the upper drawers.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the lower drawers.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view, taken on the line 6-6 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 7 is a sectional view, taken ron the line 1--1 of Fig. 2, and
' tion booth.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, in which like numerals refer to like parts throughout:-
A show case I is composed of cabinet sections 2 and 3 separated by an alcove section 4. The sections 2 and 3 are divided into upper and lower drawer sections 6 and 5, respectively, separated by a display section 1. The section 1 is divided into a plurality of display compartments 8, normally closed by means of hinged covers 9. Transparent, translucent, or opaque glass, plain or colored, or silvered, for use as mirrors, or wood, may be used for the cover members 9, as desired. The back Ill of the section 1 is set forwardly of the back l I of the main section I to provide a space |2 in which pipes, wiring conduits, or other service facilities may be conveniently located. A sign valance I3 extends across the front of the section 1, behind which are located lamps I6 in a reiiector l5, for illuminating the display section 1.
'I'he upper sections 6 are divided into a plurality of compartments I6, in each of which is located a pair of drawers I1, shown in Fig. 4. The drawers I1 are open on one side, as indicated at I8, in Figs. 4 and 6, instead of at the top, which is closed by the part -|1-, thus making the contents of the drawer easily accessible, when the drawer is pulled out. The bottom I9 of the drawer |1 is extended outwardly and forwardly beyond the front to form a shelf portion 2|. A rail strip 22 bounds the shelf 2|, and serves the double purpose of prevention of accidental removal of articles on display on the shelf 2| and also, as a handle, or grip, for manipulation of the drawer I1.
The lower sections 5 are divided into a plurality v of compartments 23, which vary progressively in length and depth, the smaller at the top, as indicated in Fig. 3, and a drawer 24 is slidably supported in each of the compartments 23. The drawers 24 are built in the usual manner with the following exceptions: the bottom 25 is extended outwardly and forwardly to form a shelf portion 26, which is terminated by a rail strip 21; the side walls 28 of the drawer 24 are extended forwardly to form abutments 29 on each side of the shelf portion 26, and the portions 29 are reinforced with blocks 30, which, with the drawer 24 in normal closed position, butt against partitions 3| of the section 5. This reinforcement of the shelves 26 provides adequate strength lamps 34, supported on the ceiling 35 of the section 4.
supported in a sleeve 31, and driven through the sleeve 3l', gears 3l, and motor 39. The 'platform 36 is adapted to receive and support any desired and appropriate display 40. The platform 36 is normally enclosed by a removable platform section 4l, in which are located additional storage drawers 42. Mirror sections 43 and 44 are removably supported on pintles 45 and, with the platform 36 in place, are positioned to cover the rear corners oi the alcove 4, as indicated in Figs.
1 and '1, and thus conceal corner shelves 46, on which maybe stored articles and supplies required for demonstration purposes.
When it is desired to adapt the alcove 4, for use as a demonstration booth, the platforms 36 and 4| are removed, the mirrors 43 and 44 removed from the pintles and rehung in the positions indicated in Fig. 8, thus exposing the shelves 4B and placing the mirrors 43 and 44 approximately in the center of the side Walls of the demonstration booth, as formed by the sections 2 and 3, mirrors 43 and 44, and screen sections 41.
What I claim is:-
l. As an article of manufacture, a drawer member having a bottom portion extending out Wardly beyond the front face of the drawer to form an exposed shelf, said shelf being provided with a raised rim for retaining articles placed A revolvable platform 38 is removably thereon, block members superposed on said rim on each side of said shelf, whereby said shelf is reinforced to serve as a step.
2. A combination case for store merchandise having both open display shelves and concealed storage space comprising, a supporting frame divided into a plurality oi. compartments, each compartment having an open front for the reception of a drawer horizontally slidable thereinto, said compartments being successively deeper from the `top to the bottom of said supporting frame, and a plurality of box-like draw- 1 ers slidable into said compartments each having a front wall the upper edge of which is substantially flush with the upper front of its compartment when the drawer is in its place in the compartment and the lower edge of which is back from the lower front of said compartment, said drawer having a display shelf which is substantially an extension of the bottom of said drawer extending forwardly of the front wall of the drawer over the lower front of the compartment and slightly beyond, the combined result of all the display shelves being to provide terraced open display shelving.
3. A combination storage drawer and display shelf comprising a. box-like structure having closed rear, front and bottom sides, one of the three remaining sides being open for the introduction and removal of articles being stored, a display shelf in the same plane as the bottom side of the drawer extending forwardly of the front side of the box-like structure, and means extending upwardly around the edge of said shelf to prevent articles being displayed thereon from being joggled oil during the in-and-out movement of the drawer.
