This invention relates to traiiic or signal gloves adapted to be worn by motorists in general for signaling their intended movements, and also by pedestrians for protection against motor trafflc in darkness and stormy conditions. A principal object of the invention is to provide a signal glove or device that is light and comfortable to wear and presents no projections or protuberances apt to catch in extraneous objects or cause injury, and having provision to present a striking and conspicuous signal when the hand of the wearer is extended. With these objects the invention comprises a glove, illustratlvely shown as for the left hand, though it may be provided for either hand or both hands, produced of light and strong material, preferably and 11- lustratively shown of strong open mesh stock; The glove thus formed has secured on the back, thereof, a series of lengthwise extending strips, preferably three in number which extend the entire length of the glove and to the ends of the first three fingers thereof. These strips are in conspicuous color effects as later will be more fully explained in detail, and they have secured thereto, metallic buttons or heads, also with conspicuous color effect and adapted to reflect light projected thereupon. In accordance with my invention, the front of the glove is also formed. with a conspicuous color strip extending the length thereof, and formed with a hanger loop. The foregoing and other objects and advantages of the invention will-be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, and the distinctive features of novelty will be thereafter pointed out in the appended claims.

l0 indicates the body of the glove which is preferably made with a full complement of fingers and thumb, produced of open mesh or other material strong enough to hold its proper shape,

and preferably of a close enough mesh or texture to give warmth if the glove is worn without another glove underneath in cold weather. ll, I2, l3, designate three strips or tapes which extend substantially the full length of the glove, at the back thereof, and to the ends of the first three fingers. Each of these strips comprises r, underneath or base tapes lid, of a vivid, conspicuous color, preferably a bright red. Other tapes lib, of somewhat less width than the extent of the tapes Ila, and of a contrasting color, preferably white, are sewed down to the red tapes, Ha, providing composite strips of white with red edges showing at each side thereof. To these strips are applied a series of metallic buttons or heads l4, these buttons or heads as shown having pointed prongs I4 which are clinched to 15 the tapes to secure the heads thereto. Preferably and as shown, these buttons are of different color values, certain of them as indicated as |4a being of a selected vivid color such as red enamel and others as indicated at [4b, being silver or chromium plated so as to provide a high reflective coefficient and thus render the glove strikingly conspicuous whenexposed to a light projected thereon. As seen at [5, [6, the strips are notstitched down to the material of the glove at the locality of the knuckles but are left loose and with no buttons at these localities so as to permit easy flexing of the hand. A further feature of my invention comprises a strip extending the full length of the front of the 80 glove, this embodying a base tape as i! which may be white, and a tape l'la of contrasting color, preferably red of somewhat less width superposed thereon, and stitched to the material of the glove, this strip being for the purpose of making the glove conspicuous when exhibited to vehicles approaching head on. This strip or tape is extended from the wrist of the glove to form a loop I 8, permitting the glove to be hung on the door handle of the car or elsewhere when not in use.

The traffic or signal glove thus provided is inexpensive to manufacture, of exceptionally light weight and convenient for wearing either by itself or over another glove. The buttons or heads l4 may be produced of thin and light metal stock so that they do not interfere with the free flexing of the hand since the tapes are not secured to the body of the glove at the locality of the knuckles. Since the buttons are convex, i. e. of flattened oval contour in cross section with the edges thereof fitting down closely upon the tapes, the entire glove presents a smooth, continuous contour, with no protruding part apt to catch in the operating mechanism of thecar or elsewhere. The provision of the silver or chromium plated reflecting buttons interspersed with the red enamelled or like vivid colored buttons makes an exceptionally conspicuous signal that is clearly and strikingly visible in even the poorest light.

In practice the body of the glove is probably a made white for most uses so that the color strips will stand out strikingly in contrast thereto, but for certain uses such as for truck drivers and manual workers, the body of the glove may be made black or a very dark color, in which case the color strips also stand out strikingly, giving somewhat the appearance of a skeleton hand.

I am aware that the invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A tramc signal comprising a glove body having a plurality of longitudinally extending strips secured to the back thereof, and extending substantially the full length of the glove including the fingers thereof. said strips presenting contrasting color eflects with respect to the'body of the glove. and a multiplicity of flattened-convex light reflecting buttons secured thereto'with their peripheral edges lying substantially against the glove surface.

2. A traiiic signal as set forth in claim 1, wherein the portions of said strips at the locality of the knuckles are unsecured to the glove body.

3. A tramc signal, as set iorth in claim 1, having also a strip of contrasting color eflect with respect to the bodv of the glove extending substantially the full length of the glove at the front thereof, and with an extension from the inner end to constitute a hanger loop.
