Description

W. MILLSPAUGH.
Ghopping-Knfe.
No. 209,065. Patented oct. 15, 187s.v
AFw.. 1.
Hummm UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIGE.
"WILLIAM MILLSPAUGH, OF' MIDDLETOWN, NEI/V YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHOPPING-KNIVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 209,065, dated October l5, 1878; .application tiled September 3, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,W1LL1AM MrLLsPAUGH, of Middletown, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful .Improvements in Ohopping or Mincing Knives; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked ihereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a chopping or mincing knife, having for its object to improve the construction and operation of the same; and it consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawings, FigureI is a side elevation and Fig. II is, a central vertical section on line cc x, Fig. I.
A represents the circular chopping-blade,-
which may be of any desired size, adapted to fit into the slot D in the standard B, in such manner as to leave so little space that the edge of the standard will disengage any suhstance that may become attached to the blade while in operation. rlhe blade is attached to the standard by means of a rivet, b, passing through holes in the blade and standard, thus forming a journal for the blade to turn upon.
At the upper part ofthe standard B, and forming a part thereof, are the arms d d, at the upper extremity of which are formed the plates c c, corresponding in size with the ends of the handle C. The handle G is secured to the arms by means of screws a a, passed through holes in the platesc and screwed into the wood.
l am fully aware of a vegetable-cutter in which is a central standard, with a hub at its lower end for the passage of a shaft, having a circular cutter on each end, said cutters operatin g beyond the sides of the standard, and the upper end of the standard provided with two arms, secured to a handle, and I do not claim such as my invention.
It will be seen thatin my invention thecircular cutter works' in a slot in the standard, the two arms or prongs thereof being close to the cutter, so as to act as clearers for the same, and thus the cutter can at no time become clogged.
Having thus fully described the invention,
what is claimed as new, and desired to be se cured by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the slotted standard B, formed with the arms d d, secured to the ends of the handle G, and the circular cutter A, pivoted by a bolt or rivet, b, in the standard and working in the slot I) thereof', substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WM. MILLSPAUGH.
