Description

.Aug. 3, 1937. E. w. DIETTERLE COMB CLEANING AND STERILIZING DEVICE Filed Jan. 27, 1957 gwurzzwbcm I IETTZELE Show;
Patented Aug. 3, 1937 UNH'ED STAT 5 PATENT FF1E 3 Claims.
This invention relates to cleansing and sterilizing combs and more particularly to an apparatus for quickly and efficiently scouring and sterilizing the teeth of hair combs.
An object of the invention is to construct a device that is adaptable for household or barber shop use and which is ornamental in design.
A still further object of the invention is to provide means for positively removing particles of hair, dandruff and the like from the teeth of hair combs by means of freely rotatable brushes.
In the drawing:
Fig. l is a top plan view of the apparatus.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken on line 4- 1 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a bottom plan View of the cover.
Numeral I denotes an open jar or receptacle whose height is somewhat greater than the length of an ordinary hair comb. The jar or receptable may be manufactured from any non-corrosive material such as pottery, glass, resin or the like. The mouth of the jar or container l is closed by a removable cover plate 2 provided with an elongated slot or opening 3 formed in the central portion thereof. It is preferable to provide sloping portions t along the sides of the slot to insure that any liquid carried up during use will run back into the jar. Adjacent the ends of the slot are formed depending integral spaced side plates 5 which extend substantially across the bottom thereof to retain the cover in proper engagement with the mouth of the casing.
The depending side plates 5 are also provided with two spaced openings 6 arranged in line with each other in opposite side plates and spaced from one another in the same horizontal plane in each side plate. The openings 6 act as bearings for freely rotatable spiral brushes 1 by reason of their having their twisted wire ends 8 mounted therein. It will be noted that the spiral brushes are of such a size that their outer peripheries overlap in side by side relation as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. The brushes are preferably made with a flexible wire shaft so that they may be easily removed and replaced when worn, so by simply flexing, the ends of the shaft may be snapped in and out of the bearing openings.
The body portion of the receptacle or casing I is adapted to contain a sterilizing or disinfecting liquid 9 which may be any desired solution which will act as a solvent for the particles on the teeth and sterilize the comb.
In operation the user takes a comb to be cleansed and sterilized, and after inserting it through the slot or opening 3 and downward between the overlapping inner edges of the spiral brushes, reciprocates the comb back and forth. This action gives rotatable movement to the brushes and at the same time carries the comb into contact with the sterilizing and disinfecting liquid 9 so that the liquid is carried to the brushes and insures that all particles will be removed from and between the teeth of the comb. In practice it may be found convenient to reverse the comb and cleanse and sterilize half of the comb in one operation.
What I claim is:
1. An apparatus for use in cleaning and sterilizing hair combs including an open top jar, a cover for said jar, said cover having an elongated slot formed therein, bottom side plates depending from the said cover at the ends of said slot and a pair of freely rotatable brushes mounted between said side plates immediately below said slot.
2. A hair comb cleaning and sterilizing apparatus including a sterilizing liquid container, said container comprising an open Vessel of a height somewhat taller than the length of a conventional hair comb, a slotted cover plate positioned in the open top of said jar, a pair of meshing spiral brush members suspended from said cover plate, the longitudinal axes of said brushes'being arranged parallel to the slot in said cover whereby a hair comb must necessarily pass between both of said brushes when introduced through said slotted cover plate.
3. An apparatus for cleaning and sterilizing hair combs comprising an open top jar adapted to contain a liquid solvent and sterilizing agent, a removable cover plate for said jar having a slotted opening formed therein, said cover plate being provided with depending side portions, a pair of spaced openings formed in each of said depending side portions, freely rotatable spiral brushes secured between opposite pairs of said opening and arranged in overlapping peripheral position whereby a comb introduced through said slotted cover plate will necessarily pass between the overlapping brushes and rotate the same.
