New York, N. Y., a corporation Application September 11, 1936, Serial No. 100,375
2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in holders for display cards and has for an object to provide a device of this character which may be readily attached to a suitable support and as 5 easily removed therefrom.
A particular object is to provide a holder for menu cards so that the same may be positioned upon some object in a cafe, particularly a napkin dispensing case such as is commonly used in 10 such public eating houses.
A further object is to provide such a device which will be attractive in appearance, inexpensive to manufacture, and which may be readily removed from its position upon the napkin dis- 15 pensing case for cleaning and polishing.
With these objects in View I have provided a display card holder which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a front elevation of my device in 20 place upon a napkin dispensing case of a preferred type;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the case with my card holder positioned thereon;
Figure 3 is a front elevation of a case as shown 25 in Figure 1 but provided with only one card holder, the side presented to view being illustrative of the latch device to be later described;
Figure 4 is a bottom view showing the operation of the latch device;
Figure 5 is a side elevation of the form shown in Figure 3;
Figure 6 is a rear elevation of the form shown in Figures 3 and 5;
Figure '7 is a front elevation of the napkin dis- 35 pensing case showing the application thereto of a diiferent means of mounting the menu card holder; and
Figure 8 is a perspective detail view of the means shown in Figure 7.
Referring particularly to the drawings in which like reference characters are used throughout to indicate like parts, I have shown a napkin dispensing case i, the open faces of which are provided with beveled flanges 2 cut away at 3 in 45 the corners and terminating in rounded ease- I ments 4. The whole is supported on suitable rubber feet 5.
The display card holder is adapted particularly to fit the form illustrated in the accompanying drawings but may be formed for association with other objects for support while still including the novel elements disclosed.
The display card holder comprises a body por- 55 tion 6 which as illustrated, is adapted to be positioned upon the bottom face of the napkin dispensing case, and is appropriately cut away at the corners as shown at 1 in Figure 4 of the drawings, so as to evade the supports 5. The edges of 60 the body portion are rounded as at 8 and extended to form card holding elements 9 which lie adjacent the faces of napkin dispensing case. Either one or two such elements 9 are shown in the different forms illustrated in the different views. A hook element I8 is provided in the form shown in Figures and 6 as struck from the base of the card holding element 9 while in the form shown in Figures 1, 2 and 4 the hook element I0 is formed on the edge of the body between the card holding elements. This hook is adapted to engage the lower beveled edge 2 in each case.
Pivotally mounted on the body portion at I2 is a bail 13 having a U-shaped extension l4 and a finger engaging element I5 by which the same may be rotated from the dotted line position shown in Figure 4 to the full line position shown in the same figure. Pivotally mounted upon the U-shaped extension of the bail at 16 is a latch member ll which passes through a strap [8 struck from the edge of the body portion 6. The latch element terminates in a hook member !9 which is adapted to hook over the lower flange 2 opposite the hook ID.
In Figures 7 and 8 are shown a modified form of element for securing the body portion 8 to the base of the napkin dispensing case. This form comprises a strap element 20 which bridges across the body portion 6. It is provided on its four corners with flexible hook elements 2i pivotally secured at 22 to upturned flanges 23 upon the strap element 20. and cariies a card clip 9. These hook elements 2| are so formed that they snap into the cut-away portion 3 of the flanges of the napkin dispensing case and frictionally engage the rounded easements 4.
While I have disclosed the preferred forms of my invention, it will be understood that other and various forms may be used as defined in the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In combination with a napkin dispensing case having edge flanges, a card holder comprising a body portion, card holding fingers rising therefrom adjacent the face of the dispensing case, means to engage an edge fiange, and a movable latch element to engage the opposite flange.
2. In combination with a napkin dispensing casehavingedge flanges, acard holder comprising a body portion, card holding fingers rising therefrom adjacent the face of the dispensing case, means to engage an edge flange, a bail pivoted on the body and having a U-shaped extension and a finger piece, and a latch pivoted on the U- shaped extension at one end and terminating in a hook adapted to engage the opposite edge flange of the napkin dispensing case.
EVANGELOS ZAKOS.
