Description

FRAME SAW Filed Oct. 9, 1935 Patented Apr. 13, 1937 UNITED STATES FRAME SAW Emil Liif, Stockholm, Sweden Application October 9, 1935, Serial No. 44,280 In Sweden October 8, 1934 1 Claim.
This invention relates to frame saws and more specifically to improved guiding means for the log on the back side of the saw.
It is known to use on the back side of frame saws guiding means consisting of knives or the like, which engage the cuts made in the log by the saw blades and guide the work piece until it is fully cut. Such knives have hitherto been carried by holders secured to the floor below the g log whereby the removal of the slabs and side boards cut off from the log in the sawing operation and the adjusting of the saw frame was interfered with.
The object of this invention is to remove said drawback by journalling the guiding knives above the log on a horizontally swingable frame carrying the upper feeding roller on the back side of the frame saw.
In the accompanying drawing I have shown an embodiment of the invention. Fig. 1 shows a side view and Fig. 2 a plan of a frame saw plant with the improved guiding arrangement.
Referring to the drawing, I is the frame saw which in well-known manner is provided with two pairs of feeding rollers 2, 3 and 4, 5 respectively, the upper roller 5 of the roller pair on the back side of the saw frame being journalled in a frame I which is swingable horizontally on a vertical shaft 6. The frame I carries two brackets 8, 9 which are connected by rods In, H on which are secured plates I2, I3, said plates being laterally adjustable and forming holders for guiding knives l4, l5. The latter extend freely downwards from said holders to engage from above the cuts in the log passing through the saw, thus guiding the work piece on the back side of the saw. As the holders of the knives are placed above thelog the slabs and side boards cut from the log can fall down freely without 5 being checked by the knives or their holders. When the roller 5 with its frame is swung out laterally for enabling the adjusting and supervision of the saw frame the guiding means are also swung off whereby the attendance of the 10 saw is facilitated.
To support and carry away the work piece on the back side of the frame saw a transporting device is provided consisting of beams l6 supporting the middle block of the log cut and on 1 each side of said beams a belt conveyer ll for carrying away the slabs and the side boards cut off from the log. To facilitate the feeding of the middle block mechanically driven rollers l8 are provided between the beams I6. 20
The invention is not limited to the construction shown in the drawing but the constructional details may be varied without departing from the principle of the invention.
What I claim is: 25
A frame saw, comprising an upright stationary main frame, a horizontally swingable frame connected to said main frame and positioned above the path of the work, and guiding knives supported by said swingable frame and extending 30 freely downwardly into the path of the work when the-supporting frame is in operative position.
