has served its purpose as a package it may be readily converted into a receptacle presenting a supply of new blades within convenient reach of 15 the user and having a portion which acts as a receiver with capacity for a large number of used blades.

As herein shown the device comprises a primary blank which may be folded so as to constitute a relatively large compartment serving first to contain the razor and later the used blades and a secondary blank which may be folded to form a smaller compartment adapted to contain unused blades. The blanks are connected so that the two compartments may be disposed either in aligned end-to-end relation, forming a straight fiat package of convenient dimension, or so that the two compartments may be located one in front of the other, in which condition they may 39 be placed upon a toilet shelf or hung in convenient position upon the wall.

These and other features of the invention will be best understood and appreciated from the following description of a preferred embodiment 35 thereof, selected for purposes of illustration and shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:-

It will be convenient first to describe the blanks as they are originally died out in fiat condition and then to describe the manner in which they are folded and assembled in forming the complete device.

The primary blank, as shown in Fig. 1, includes a rectangular panel in which is provided near its upper edge with a transverse slit ii and with a 55 side flap l2 and a side panel it, the latter being set off from the panel It by vertical scored lines. The panel Iii is also provided with a top flap it having a transverse slot 15 therein and this flap is transversely scored to form a tongue M. The narrow side panel i6 is connected to a back panel ll of equal width with the panel W but having a curved upper edge. The back panel I! in turn isprovided with a narrow side panel 3 of equal width with the side panel it, and both of these side panels are provided at their top and bottom edges with scored tongues. The blank shown in Fig. l is adapted to be folded upon these vertical scored lines to bring the panels Ill and ll into parallelism with the narrow side panel l8 overlapping the side flap 52. The side panel tongues are all folded inwardly and the upper end of the compartment thus formed may be closed by' folding the top flap i3 transversely and tucking the tongue M downwardly against the inside of the panel ll.

The. secondary blank, as shown in Fig. 2, has a rectangular panel 20 of very slightly less width than the panel 60 and of somewhat less height.

The panel 20 is provided with a top flap of equal length and this in turn has a tongue or flap 22 defined therein by parallel scored lines. Attached to one side of the panel 20 is a side flap 23 and to the other side thereof is attached a narrow side panel 2% provided with a scored tongue at its lower end. The side panel 2 is connected to a front panel 25 similar in'dimension to the panel except that it is considerably shorter. The front panel is provided with a bottom flap 26,

a narrow side panel 2? and a top flap 28, all of which are defined by scored linesin the blank. The top flap 28 is provided with a semi-circular out which defines a finger tab 29 and has a perforated curved line 351 defining a portion of the blank which may be subsequently removed in adapting the device ,to serve as a blade receptacle.

The blank of Fig. 2 is formed into a compartment by folding it on its vertical scored lines, bringing the front panel and the panel it into parallelism, with the side flap 23 covered by the narrow side panel 27. The bottom tongues of the side panels 2 3 and 27 are folded inwardly and the bottom tongue 26 is folded transversely and its flap tucked upwardly against the inner face of the panel 20. In this condition a rectangular receptacle is formed of the proper size to receive two packages of twenty-five blades, the packages being arranged side by side. If desired a. loose partition piece 32 may be inserted in the receptacle to separate the two blade packages or'to hold individual blades in position as they are used.

The two elements of the device, folded in the manner above explained, may now be assembled 4 by passing the long top flap 2| of the panel 20 through the slit ll of the panel l0 and folding the flap 2| through so that it lies flat against the inner face of the panel l0 and then folding the top tongue 22 transversely and tucking its flap upwardly against the inner face of the panel ll. The two component parts of the device are thus connected by a hinge which coincides with the slit- II. The blade receptacle may be folded into the position shown in Fig. 3, where it is located in front of the main compartment or it may be swung into end-to-end relation with themain compartment, as shown in Fig. 4. A safety razor may be placed in the main compartment and packaged therein by closing the flap 26 and blade packages may be placed in the secondary compartment and packaged by closing the flap 28. When the two compartments are arranged in their end-to-end relation they may be malntained in this relation by an inflexible telescopic sleeve 3| which may be pushed endwise into position to enclose the entire device and convert it into a compact closed package.

When this package reaches the consumer the sleeve 3| is removed and the razor taken out of the main compartment by opening the flap 2|. The secondary compartment is then brought into the position shown in Fig. 3 and its top is removed by tearing on the curved perforated line 30 thus exposing the packages of unused blades therein. The device may then be hung up or conveniently located on a shelf or the like and new blades drawn from the supply thus made avaflable as desired. At the same time used blades may be dropped one by one through the slot I5 into the main compartment which serves as a receiver with a capacity for several years supply of used blades.

An important characteristic of the device is that the length of the back panel 20 is such as approximately to divide the distance between the top of the blade receptacle and the top of the main compartment, when the two compartments are arranged as shown in Fig. 3. On this account the top of the blade receptacle is brought substantially into contact with the top of the main compartment when the two compartments are brought into end-to-end relation in adapting the device for its function as a package.

Further, the height of the two compartments is such that when they are folded into face-to-face relation their bases lie in a common plane.

It will be noted, moreover, that the flap of the tongue 22 is folded transversely beneath the inturned tongues of the side panels l6 and I8, with the result that the hinge-connection between the two compartments cannot be pulled apart. In other words, the flap of the shorter compartment is anchored beneath the tongues of the longer compartment.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. A receptacle of folded sheet material, comprising walls connected to form a rectangular compartment having a transverse slit therein and a blank having other walls connected to form a secondary compartment external to the first, one of the latter walls having a flap extending through said slit and into said, rectangular compartment and being folded to form a closure for said rectangular compartment.

2. A receptacle of folded sheet material, comprising walls connected to form a rectangular compartment having a slit spaced downwardly from the upper edge of one wall and a blank having other walls connected to form a shorter secondary compartment external to the first, one of the walls having a flap extending through said slit, thence downwardly upon the inner face of said rectangular compartment and then transversely closing the lower end thereof.

3. A receptacle for safety razor blades, comprising connected walls forming an elongated and in-turned tongues in its side walls, a blank having other walls forming a shorter external compartment having a flap extending upwardly, then through the slit and downwardly and beneath said in-turned tongues, thereby forming a hinged connection between the two compartments.

4. A combined receptacle and package comprising connected walls forming an elongated rectangular compartment, 9. blank having other connected walls forming a shorter compartment hinged thereto for swinging movement about an axis located below the upper edge of said rectangular compartment by a distance such that the two compartments may be located in end-to-end relation or may be located in face-to-face relation with their bases in a common plane when the shorter compartment is swung 180 from its position of end-to-end relation.

5. A combined receptacle and package comprising connected walls forming an elongated rectangular compartment, and a blank having other connected walls forming a shorter compartment having an upstanding tongue and hinged to one wall of said elongated compartment at a point so removed from the edge of said shorter compartment as to bring adjacent ends of the two compartments into abutting relation when swung into end-to-end relation.

6. A combined receptacle and package of the character defined in claim 5 in combination with an inflexible telescopic sleeve for holding the two compartments in end-to-end relation.

7. A combined receptacle and package including in its structure an elongated compartment having one end closed by a slotted tongue folded integrally from one wall thereof, and a supplementary external compartment having an elongated tongue folded at its end portion to close the other end of the said elongated compartment and having a hinge axis therein spaced from the edge of said supplementary compartment.
