KEY HOLDER Filed March 25, 1936 1N VENTOR.
ATTORNEY.
Patented Feb. 23, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE KEY HOLDER Blanche E. Matthews, Los Angeles, Calif. Application March 25, 1936, Serial No. 70,810
2 Claims. (Cl. 150-40) This invention relates to means for housing and for supporting keys, small tools, and like objects in a conveniently accessible position for use. The invention further pertains both to a satchel or other portable container having combined therewith a key-holding attachment, and to a new article of manufacture which consists of a key-holding device interiorly attachable to such a satchel or container.
An important object of the invention is to simplify the construction and lessen the cost of manufacture of devices of the kind to which the invention pertains without impairing their usefulness.
Another object of the invention is to produce a new article of manufacture consisting of a. keyholder of a very simple, eflicient character which may readily be attached to the inner portions of satchels, shopping bags,'or like containers now 20 on the market.
Other objects, advantages and. features of the invention will hereinafter appear. 7
Referring to the accompanying drawing, which illustrateswhat is at present deemed to be a pre- 25 ferred embodiment of the invention,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an open satchel, showing the invention applied to the interior thereof.
Fig. 2 is a cross section of a portion of the 30 satchel shown in Fig. 1, the line 2-2 .in the latter view indicating the plane of section, in a closed position.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a modification showing same as an article of manufacture.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the invention is shown applied to a satchel 5 the mouth portion of which is furnished with sheet metal lips or selvage plates 6 and l which are respectively provided with cooperating catch elements 0 8 and 9. Said selvage plates 6 and l are of the doubled over type in order to aflord protection to both faces of the edge portions of the fabric of which the satchel body is composed, adjacent.
to the mouth portion thereof.
The selvage plate I is shown having its inner portion furnished with an anchorage extension II which is directed inwardly with relation to the mouth portion of the sack. A plurality of apertured inwardly extending, inclined ears l2 are struck up from said extension II, and onto each of said cars is fastened the eyeletted portion l3 of a hook or hanger H. To the hook portion ll of each of these hangers is secured a link It which is shown connected to a key I! by means of an elastic cord or connection I8.
In Fig. 3 the anchor plate I9 is shown constructed as a new article of manufacture, and furnished at each end with an aperture whereby it may be riveted or otherwise secured to a satchel or bag already on the market. In this view the ears to which the hooks 14 are secured are lettered l2a.
An inner pocket wall 2! is shown to be used, when desired to house the keys. Said wall has a flap 22 along its upper-edge with eyelets 23 to cooperate with buttons 24.
It will be seen that. in both embodiments of the invention, the end portions of the ears 12, or I2a, of the anchor plate are spaced outwardly from said plate in such a manner that the attached anchor plate will hold each connection away from the back wall of the satchel pocket 2|. This enables the user readily to pass the fingers of his or her hand behind a connection and thus easily grasp it to withdraw the key to be used.
I claim:
1'. A satchel having pivotally connected rigid lip portions, an elongated plate having a substantially straight fiat body portion and having a plurality of apertured ears projecting from a face thereof, said ears being inclined in such a manner as to space their apertured portions away from the plane of that face of the plate from which they project,,means attaching said plate internally to one of said lip portions of the satchel with said ears'projecting inwardly therefrom, an inner satchel pocket having a wall portion de- BLANCHE E. tachably connectible with said plate above its
