GARMEN T Filed Nov. 25, 1934 Patented Dec. 29, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT oFFlcE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to garments.
Specifically the invention is embodied in trousers or shorts adapted to be worn as pajama trousers or shorts or to be worn outdoors as outer garments at appropriate places, as desired.
An object of the invention is to provide a garment of this character and for these purposes composed of light and thin material and sometimes of substantially diaphanous material and having portions thereof, particularly at the front and across the groins, rendered opaque by means herein disclosed, so that the garment may be worn publicly without embarrassment to the wearer.
Another object of the invention is to provide a garment of the character mentioned adapted to be opened at the front from the waistband approximately to the crotch and having improved attaching means for the waistband whereby the waistband may be tightened or loosened or released, as desired.
Other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description, reference being made to the annexed drawing, in which- Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing the front of the garment.
Fig. 2 is a similar perspective view showing the rear of the garment.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the garment turned inside out and showing means whereby portions of the garment are reinforced and rendered opaque and also showing improved fastening means for the waistband.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the rear of the garment turned inside out.
Fig. 5 is a perspective View, with a part broken away, showing the arrangement of the waistband.
Fig. 6 is a diagrammatic cross sectional view of the garment approximately on the line 6-6 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 7 is a diagrammatic cross sectional view of the front portion of the waistband of the garment approximately on the line 'I- of Fig. 1.
The present invention comprises trousers or shorts made of light and thin and Substantially diaphanous material including a body portion I and legs 2 extending downwardly from the crotch 3 of the garment. The garment opens at the front and has a reinforced marginal portion 4 at one side of the opening extending upwardly from the crotch to connection with the waistband end section 5. This is the inner part of the front portion of the garment.
The outer part 6 oi the iront portion of the garment, which overlaps the inner portion, has its edge 'I extending from the crotch upwardly across the inner portion nearly to the side of the garment to connection with the waistband end section 8.
A section 9 of appropriate material, which may be of the same kind of material of which the garment is made, is attached to the inner side of the outer part 6 oi the front portion of the garment and has one edge parallel with and attached to the marginal portion of the part 6 by stitches I0, and has its opposite edge I I curving upwardly from the crotch to connection with the waistband section 8 near the opposite side of the garment, and attached to the body of the garment by stitching I2. 'Ihe upper edge of the sections, as well as the upper edge of the body I of the garment at the front, are enclosed between the margins of the folded waistband 8 and attached thereto and to each other by a line of stitching I3 (Fig. 7). The edges of the section 9 are formed in symmetry with each other and with the edge 'I, said edges diverging upwardly approximately along the groins. The tWo plies 5 and 9 render the portions of the garment formed thereby almost completely opaque, so that the garment may be worn with comfort and without embarrassment wherever it is appropriate to wear such garments.
The end portion 5 of the waistband has attached thereto a pair of spaced buttons I4 and I5 adapted to be engaged with buttonholes I6 and I1, respectively, in the waistband end portion 8. The button I4 is near the end' of the waistband section 5 and' the button I5 is near the side of the garment in position to be engaged in the buttonhole II near the end of the waistband end portion 8.
A ruiiled waistband sleeve I8 extends across the sides and rear of the upper portion of the garment, having one end connected with the waistband section 8 adjacent to the edge I I of the section 9 and the opposite end connected with the waistband section 5 near the button I5. A button I9 is attached to the inner side of the waistband section 5 near the button I5 and may be directly opposite said button I5 and the two buttons may be attached by the same threads. The end of the waistband sleeve I8 that is near the button I9 is open. A band 20, preferably of inelastic material, is mounted in the sleeve I8 and has one end attached to the waistband section 8 and the opposite end extending outwardly through the open end of the ruilled sleeve I8 and provided with a number oi longitudinally spaced buttonholes 2I adapted to be selectively engaged with the button I9. Thus, the size of the waist of the garment may be varied, as desired.
A section 22, which may be of the same kind of material of which the garment is made, is attached to the inside of the crotch of the garment and renders that portion of the garment opaque and also functions to reinforce and strengthen the same.
This garment has been tested and worn with complete satisfaction, as a result of which it is known that the garment attains all of its intended objects and purposes efficiently, economically and satisfactorily.
It is possible that the garment may be varied as to details of construction without departure from the nature and principle of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A trousers garment or shorts composed of light and thin material and including a body portion and legs forming a crotch, said body portion being open at the front from the crotch to the upper end of the garment and the front of the garment including inner and outer overlapping portions, the free edge of said inner overlapping portion extending vertically from the crotch to the upper end of the garment and said outer overlapping portion extending upwardly and laterally from said crotch to the upper end of the garment near the opposite side of the garment, a symmetrical V-shaped section having one edge attached to the edge of the outer overlapping section and the opposite edge attached to the garment beyond the free edge of the inner overlapping portion, waistband sections attached to the upper ends of said overlapping sections respec- 2. A trousers garment or shorts composed of a body portion and legs, the body portion being` open at the front and the front of the garment including inner and outer overlapping portions, the free edge of said inner overlapping portion extending vertically to the upper end of the garment and said outer overlapping portion extending upwardly and laterally across the front of said inner overlapping portion to the upper end of the garment near the kopposite side thereof, a V- shaped section having one edge attached to the edge of said outer overlapping portion and the opposite edge extending to near the opposite side of the garment and attached thereto, waistband sections attached to the upper ends of said overlapping portions respectively, a sleeve attached to the upper end of the garment between the ends of said waistband sections, a band slidable in said sleeve and extending beyond the end thereof to the inside of the garment, means for fastening together the waistband sections to hold said overlapping portions in close relationship, and means for attaching the extended end of said band to the adjacent waistband section.
