Description
Sept. 29, 9"36- o. GEBHARDT I 2,056,047
GARMENT HANGER Original FiledDec. l, 1932 INVENTOR OTTO GEBHARDT BY ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 29, 1936 UNITED] STATES PATENT OFFICE A I danmzzlz 'r glnonn I Otto New York, N. Y- 'Reiiled for abandoned application Serial No.
645,174, December 1, 1932-.
This application 11301111, 1936, Serial No; 68,338 I 2 Claims. 223-86) 7 In such devices it is usual to present a bar curved arcuately from end to end in conformity with the shoulders of an individual and smoothly rounded in crosssection, atleast at its upper surface.
Sometimes a straight chordal bar extends from end to end below the curved raised portion, over which may be supported folded articles of personal wear, as for instance'trousers and set in the center of the hanger, to extend upwardly,
is a hook or clip to engage over a fixed support.
It is an object of this invention to provide a metallic hanger, made from a tube of circular cross section, whereby smoothly rounded surfaces are presented and additionally, a structure in which unusual strength is combined with lightness in weight. i
A further feature is in the provision of means by which the straight horizontal support bar may be detachably engaged with the hanger,
thereby facilitating the disposal of articles there-' on or removal] of the'same.
Another purpose is to produce a hanger adapted to be supplied with tablets composed of material oifensive to moths and like insects injurious to clothing.
These and analogous aims and objects are attained by the novel construction and arrangement'of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which:-
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of an embodiment of the invention in its simple form. Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view taken online22ofFigure1."
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 1, but showing a horizontal support bar combined therewith. as Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view of the preferred form of hanger.
Figure 8 is a perspective view of the combined caps and'hinged connection.
Figure 7 is a siinilar view of the opposite cap and extending 1).
Figure 8 ma perspective view of the detach-1 able end of the straight bar. Throughout the several views the numeral ll designaates in general a metallic tube, curved in'conformity with the shoulders 0fp8ll individual and having a longitudinal opening Ii in .its under, concave side.
Set centrally in the tube is a block i 2 to ena gage the'inner end of a stem i3 extending upwardly through thetube and terminating in a hook I to engage any convenient support, as
' within a closet or the like where the clothing is to be placed. 1
The extreme ends of the tube are preferably flared slightly outward, as at ii, to engage caps l6 having bevelled annular flanges i1 adapted to be pressed over. the ends of the tube to be retained by the flared members; but may be 15 withdrawn, due to the wall of the split tube yielding upon the application of moderate force.
This feature permits the tube to be supplied with a disinfectant, as the moth balls 18 shown.
In Ifigure 3 the tube ID has inserted at its 20 ends, adjacent the caps IS, a rod, bar or smaller support tube i9, having spherical ends 20 to retain it inplace, the rod i9 adapted to receivetheflat folded articles thereover.
Figure 5 shows a cap iii of similar construction but connected by a hinge II with another similar cap l6 having a flange II to engage over the slightly expanded end of a straight tube 22, split as at 23, and adapted to contain similar moth balls is. i I
v The opposite end of the straight tube 22 is closed and formed to produce a tongue 24 suited to engage a spring clip 25 fixed to extend at an angle downwardly from the cap at the corresponding end of the bowed tube iii, thereby ren- 35 dering said end of the bar 22 readily detachable when entering or removing articles. i
From the foregoing it will beseen that a simple device for this purpose has been disclosed in the preferred form of its embodiment, but it is not 40 desired to restrict the details to'the exact cona straight split cylindrical tube having one expanded end, a cap thereomhinged connections between one of the caps en mid bowed tube and the cap on said straight tube, and means on the oppusite end of said straight tube to detechably engage the eppesi ce end of said bowed tube.
2. A coat hanger comprising a, bawed cylindrical tube split throughout its length atits underside, said tube being expanded at its ends, a, support hook fix in said tube, caps having flanges, 6m detachably engage over the expanded ends oi mic;
2 v ewe-em tube, a straight split cylindrical tube having one expanded end provided with a, cap, a. hinge cow meet-mg the last named cap with the cap on the ejacent end of the bowed tube, a, spring clip fixed on the cap at the opposite end of said bowed tube, and a. tongue formed on the free end of said straight tube to engage in said spring clip.
