Description

J. A. ROBBINS. Pepper or Table Salt Bottle.
Patented July 2,1878.
UNITED STATES JOSEPH A. ROBBINS, OF
HALF HIS RIGHT TO SAME PLACE.
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- TVli'l. E. CARLTON AND ELIPIIAZ W. ARNOLD, OF
IMPROVEMENT IN PEPPER OR TABLE-SALT BOTTLES.
Specilirntim'i forming part of Letters Patent No. %5,57fi, dated July 2, 1878; application filed June 8, 1878.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, J osnrn A. ROBBINS, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pepper or Table-Salt Bottles, of which the following is a specification":
The object of my invention is to provide means to prevent the clogging of the neck and perforated cap of a pepper-box or other similar article provided for holding any granulated or powdered substance-such as tablesalt, sugar, pepper, Ste-which it is desired to have pass freely through the perforated cap or cover of the same in small particles, so as to be evenly distributed over the food to which it is desired to be applied; and it consists in the construction, combination, and arrangeinentof a secondary perforated disk suspended below the perforated cap and within the neck of the bottle or at its junction with the onlarged body of the same, as hereinafter more fully described and set forth.
Figure l is a perspective view, showin my invention attached to the perforated cap removed from the bottle. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same with the perforated cap attached to the bottle.
A represents a salt or pepper bottle having a contracted neck, B, provided with an exterior screw-thread to secure the perforated cap 0 in place, as usual. To the center of thecap O is secured a short stud or projection, E, extending downward, so that when the cap 0 is said perforated cap, so as in position its lower end shall reach to the junction of the neck B with the body A of the bottle, as shown. To the lower end of the downward-proiecting stud E is secured a perforated disk, H, its diameter corresponding to that of the neck B internally, so as to permit to be revolved therein in the act of attaching and removing the outer perforated cap, to which it is connected by a screw-thread upon the end of the stud E, or in any other desired manner. This inner or secondary perforated disk H prevents the granulated or pulverized contents of the bottle A from clogging or compacting in the neck B when reversed in the act of shaking or (.liseharging the same upon food, as desired, and likewise prevents any large lump or lumps from falling upon the perforations in the cap 0, and thus prevent a free discharge of such granulated or pulverized substance through the perforations in the cap as may be contained in the bottle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is-- In combination with the perforated cap C and bottle A B, the secondary perforated disk H, provided with the stud E, connected to the to be suspended within the lower extremity of the neck of bottle, as and for the purposes set forth.
JOSEPH A. ROBBINS.
