Description

BEER COOLING APPARATUS Filed May 9, 1935 INVENTOR. 100/5 60L AMA/V.
Patented July 28, 1936 Fric This invention relates to new and useful improvements in beer cooling apparatus and more particularly it pertains to that type of beer cooling apparatus which-is employed in connection with serving counters, commonly known as bars.
In the past, it has been a common practice to cool beer by circulating it through coils which are subjected to the cooling action of ice which is packed around them. Such apparatus requires considerable attention, particularly in the matter of repacking with ice from time to time as occasion may require. Furthermore, it may not be always convenient to obtain ice and therefore at times such devices are not available for use.
5 It is one of the objects of the present invention to provide a beer cooling apparatus which is primarily interded to operate by mechanical refrigeration, but which on occasion, may be cooled or refrigerated by ice.
It is a further object of the invention, so to construct the device that freezing of the cooling fluid will be at all times prevented.
Other objects of the invention will appear as the nature thereof is better understood and appreciated by reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure l is a perspective view of a beer cooling apparatus constructed in accordance with the present invention, g
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view thereof,
' and;
Figure 3 is a detail fragmentary top plan view.
In its present embodiment, the invention is illustrated as a unit adapted for use in connection with a serving counter or bar, It comprises a receptacle-like member 5 divided into two compartments 6 and i. The walls of the device may be constructed in the ordinary manner comprising two sections separated by suitable heat insulating material 8. The compartment '1 constitutes a liquid receptacle in which a suitable solution, preferably, sweet water is employed. ,This liquid receptacle has a bottom wall 9 which is connected to its side walls in, the liquid level being designated II, which level is maintained by suitable drains !2.
Mounted within the liquid receptacle there is a refrigerating unit in the form of a coil l5, and 50 the convolution of this coil extends entirely around the inner walls of the liquid receptacle 1' in slightly spaced relation thereto. This coil I5 constitutes a refrigerating coil for cooling the liquid contained in the liquid receptacle which, as 55 heretofore stated, is preferably sweet water,
and the coil is connected to any suitable refrigerating apparatus not herein illustrated.
Mounted within the liquid receptacle I and arranged substantially'centrally of the side walls thereof, there is a series of coils 20. One end of 5 each of these coils projects through the front wall 2| of the liquid receptacle 1 and isprovided with a spigot or the like 22 by means of which the contents of the coils may be discharged. 'I'heopposide end of .each coil will be connected in the 10 ordinary manner to a beer keg or other suitable source of supply. 3 It will be noted that the coils 2B are each wholly submerged within the liquid of the liquid receptacle l and are directly exposed thereto whereby 15 the cool liquid will serve to cool the contents 0 the coils. 1 Means is provided to maintain a constant circulation of this cooling fluid and in thepresent instance, this means consists of suitable agitating 20 'means in the form of air jets projected upwardly through the body ofrefrigerated or cooled fluid.
struction provides constant agitation and circulation of the fluid in the receptacle 1 closely adjacent the coils20 and insures their maintaining a proper temperature at all times.
I'he lower compartment 6 may be used for 5 storage purposes and may be, if desired, provided with a suitable refrigerating coil 30.
' The liquid compartment 1 is provided with a removable cover 30 by means of which access to the interior of the compartment may be had. By 40 this construction, the device. may be packed with ice and employed as an ice cooler should the refrigerating apparatus for any reason become temporarily inoperative. I
From the foregoing it will be apparent that the present invention provides a new and improved beer cooling unit in which a proper temperature of the beer may be maintained, which is of a capacity capable of handling the desired quantity of beer, which entirely eliminates the use of ice and the labor attendant packing the same from time to time and'in which freezing in the vicinity of the cooling coils or units is prevented.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:
A beer cooling apparatus comprising in combination; a liquid receptacle, adapted to contain a reirigerating fluid, a. refrigerating coil mounted upon the interior of said liquid receptacle and extending around the side walls thereof in spaced relation therewith, a plurality of beer cooling coils mounted in said liquid receptacle in spaced relation with the refrigerating coil carried by the side walls thereof, said beer cooling coils being com-- pletely submerged in the refrigerating fluid, an air circulating pipe extending longitudinally of said liquid receptacle,- closely adjacent the bottom wall thereof, and nozzles projecting air Jets upwardly through the beer cooling coils axially thereof and between the coils to maintain constant circulation of the refrigerated liquid in said liquid receptacle, closely adjacent the coils.
