Description

UNITED STA'IESPA'IENT OEEIcE.
EDWARD c. JONES, on WARRENSRURG, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN INVALID-CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Lett-ers Patent No. 204,231, dated May 28, 1878; application filed 1 March 2.8, 1878.
To all whom it may' concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD C. JONES, of Warrensburg, county of Johnson, State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Imi provements in Invalids Chair; and I hereby declare that the following is an exact and true description of my invention, which will enable others to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The object of my invention is to provide a chair for invalids which can be thrown into different positions, as required by the invalid himself when occupying the chair.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is aside view vof my improved invalid-chair. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation. Fig. 3 is a back view, and Fig. 4 is a sectional plan view through line w :v of Fig. 2.
A and B are the side pieces of the chair. C and D are the cross-pieces by which A and B are joined together. E is the seat of the chair, hinged at a a to the backfrest F, which is pivoted at b b to the inner Side of the side pieces rods la and Z, to throw the chair into the different desired positions.
To the end of the axle g is fastened the 1ever m, with spring-catch n, both being within easy reach of the occupant of the chair.
In front of the board G, to the rod c, is pivoted the foot-rest H.
I is a head-rest, hinged at o o to the backrest F.
q q are stops pivoted at 1' r to the side pieces A B, preventing the seat E from being elevated higher than required.
Thefeet s s ss of the chair are fastened to the platform T, which is pivoted at the center p to the floor W, thus permitting the chair to be turned in any desired direction.
An invalid occupying the seat E is, by aid l of this arrangement, enabled to throw the seat, the back-rest, and the foot-rest in any desired position by taking hold of the lever m, with the spring-catch n, and move the said lever backward or forward, as he may desire. u u are holes in the side piece B, into which enters the arm a' of the catch n, thus holding the lever m in a fixed position when required.
Having thus described my invention, I desire to claimi An invalids chair consisting of the adjustable back-rest F, foot-rest H, board G, with side pieces e and f, seat E, axle g, with arms h and t', lever m, with catch n, the connecting# rods k and l, the sides A and B, with rod c and stops q q, all arranged and combined in the manner shown and described.
