2 Claims. (Cl. 221-77) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in dispensers particularly for bottles and other containers of semi-liquids, such as ketchup, and has for one of its important ohjects to provide, in a manner'as hereinafter set forth, novel means adapted to be conveniently mounted on the bottle or other container for forcing air thereinto in a manner to discharge the contents therefrom in .a convenient and san- V itary manner.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a casing 5 which is designated generally by the reference numeral I, said casing being of any suitable material and includingcomplemental upper and lower half sections 2 and 3, respectively, which are detachably secured together through the me- 10 dium of clips 4. Fixed on the bottom of the lower section 3 and depending therefrom is an internally threaded neck 5 which is adapted to threadedly receive the top portion of a container, such as a ketchup bottle 6. A suitable gasket 8 is provided for preventing leakage around the mouth of the bottle 6.
Extending through the casing I is a discharge tube 9 which is adapted to extend into the bottle 6 to a point adjacent the bottom I! thereof. The discharge tube 9 is fixed in the lower casing section 3 at H in a manner to prevent Zeakage. The discharge tube -9 terminates in angularly extending upper and lower end portions l2 and I3, respectively. The upper casing section 2 has formed therein a centrally located opening it of sumcient size to permit the tube 9 to pass freely therethrough.
The reference numeral 15 designates genera.- ly an air pump which is mounted in the casing l by suitable means, such as a bracket l6 in the lower section 3. The pump l6 includes a cy1in der I7 in which avalved piston I8 is mounted for reciprocation. A delivery tube or conduit l8, which is provided with a check valve 20, extends from the cylinder I through the lower casing section 3 for deliverying air under pressure into the bottle 6. v a The reference numeral 2| designates a lever which is pivotally mounted at an intermediate 40 'point, as at 22, in the lower section 3 of the casing I. A connecting rod 23 couples the pump piston [8 to the lever 2| for actuation hereby. The connecting rod 23 is coupled to one end of the lever 2| by a pin and slot connection 2|. The other end of the lever 2| is connected by a link 25 to the inner end of a hand lever 26 which is pivotally mounted at an intermediate point, as
at 21, in the lower portion of the lower casing section 3, said hand lever 26 being operable in an opening 28 which is provided therefor in said lower casing section 3. It will be noted that the arrangement is such that the hand lever 26 extends adjacent the neck or upper portion of the bottle 6. Mounted on the hand lever 26 is a spring 2! which is adapted to engage the bottle 6 in a manner to yieldingly urge said hand lever 26"away from said bottle.
It is thought that the operation of the invention will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. When it is desired to discharge the contents of the bottle, said bottle, with the device mounted thereon, is tilted to substantially the position shown to advantage in Figure 3 of the drawings. Then, by actuating the hand lever 2B the pump I5 is operated to force air into the bottle 6, said air displacing the contents of the bottle, forcing said contents out through the tube 8. When the hand lever 26 is swung toward the bottle 5 the'valved piston l8 of the pump l5 moves on its power stroke. The spring 29 then returns the hand lever 26 for the next stroke. By simply removing the upper casing section 2, which constitutes a cover, access to the mechanism in said casing may be had. After the bottle has been emptied the device may be readily removed therefrom and mounted on another bottle. Obviously; the invention may-be mounted on diiferent sizes of bottles or other containers by simply varying the size of the neck 5.
As illustrated to advantage in Figure 1 of the drawings, the casing l is substantially of a shape and color similar to atomato. Surrounding the opening ll in the top of the casing l'are representations ofleaves 30 which are preferably colored green. The portion of the tube 9 which projects from the top of the casing I, including the angularly extending portion I! which constitutes a spout, is also preferably colored green in representation of a stem.
It is believed that the many advantages of a dispenser constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and
although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:-
1. A dispenser of the class described comprising a casing, means for detachably securing said casing on a container, a tube extending through the casing, one end of said tube being engageable in the container for receiving the contents thereof, an air pump mounted in the casing, a. conduit for conveying air under pressure from said pump into the container, and means for actuating the pump, said pump including a valved piston, said means comprising a hand lever pivotally mounted, at an intermediate point, in the casing and projecting therefrom adjacent the container, a second lever pivotally mounted, at an intermediate point, in the casing, a connecting rod coupling the piston to one end portion of the secondnarned lever for actuation thereby, a link connecting the hand lever to the other end of said second-named lever for actuating the same, and a spring mounted on the hand lever and engage able with the container for actuating said hand lever in one direction.

A dispenser of the class-described comprising a, casing, a threaded neck on said casing for removably mounting said casing on a container, said casing including complemental upper and lower half sections, means for detachably securing said half sections together, the upper half section having a centrally located opening therein, a discharge tube extending through the casing and fixed to the lower half sections, said tube extending through the opening in the upper half section, said tube including angularly extending end portion, one end portion of the tube being engageable in the container for receiving the contents thereof, a pump mounted in the lower half section, said pump including a cylinder and a valved piston mounted for reciprocation in said cylinder, a. valved conduit connected to the pump for conveying air under pressure into the container, a lever pivotally mounted, at an intermediate point, in the lower half section, a connecting rod coupling the piston to one end portion of .said lever for actuation thereby, a hand lever pivotally mounted, at an intermediate point, in the lower half section of the casing and projecting therefrom adjacent the container, 2, link operatively connecting said hand lever to the other end of the first-named lever for actuating the latter, and a spring mounted on the hand lever and engageable with the container for actuating said hand lever in one direction.
