2 Claims. (01. 238-10) This invention relates to improved rail jointthe numerals l4. Each unit comprises a single ing means which is especially, but not necessarily, piece or plate of metal which embodies an arm adapted for underground track structures used or lever l and at its outer end it is provided with for transportation work in mines and the like. a head or knob I6 which serves as an impact Briefly, the improved jointing means comprises element. Adjacent to the head is an aperture 6 a fish-plate for anchorage on the conventional IT to accommodate a pivoting and anchoring bolt cross-tie and adapted for disposition on one side or rivet I8. This bolt serves to fasten the lever 01 the rail to connect the rail ends together on to the cross-tie and at the same time allows the this side, together with a pair of duplicate comlever to be swung in a limited arc. The inner panion pivotally mounted units for anchorage on end of the lever widens into a plate portion I9 the cross-tie on the opposite side of the track rail and terminates in an upstanding jointing flange in a manner to complete the joint structure. which is of the same height as the flange II The principal novelty is predicated upon the but is approximately one half as long as said adoption and use of simple and economical parts flange II. This abutment flange 20 is provided especially adapted for the purposes intended and with a bolt hole 2! to accommodate the adjacent made with a view toward providing a quick and threaded nut equipped end of the connecting bolt dependable coupling or jointing structure for the [3. In a structural assemblage of the class de- The units n th pp t s d s are d noted by scribed, in combination, a cross-tie, a sectional as rail supported on said cross-tie, the adjacent ends of the sections being disposed in abutting relation in a position overlying the cross-tie, a main fish-plate including an upstanding flange abutting the web portions of the rail sections. an anchoring flange secured to the cross-tie, and a connecting web between said flanges, said web being fashioned to bear against and accommodate the underlying base-flange of the rail sections, a pair of complemental units located on the opposite side of the rail sections and including complemental flanges bearing against the web portions of the rail sections on opposite sides of the joint, said sections including lever portions pivoted on the cross-tie, and bolts passing through the respective flanges of the parts as well as through the web portions of the rail sections to join the parts together rigidly in assembled relationship.
2. A rail jointing structure of the class described comprising a main stationary fish-plate unit including an upstanding jointing flange, an anchoring flange and a connecting portion between said flanges, and a pair of companionate jointing units including upstanding flanges for cooperation with said first named upstanding flange, said jointing units being disposed on the opposite sides of the rail from said flange, further including arm portions, and said arm portions having impact heads in the manner and for the purposes described and bolt means for securing the companionate units to the flsh plate unit.
