Description
' Feb. 25, 1936. F EMERY, R 2,031,638
SANITARY APPLIANCE Original Filed Nov. 5, 1932 Patented Feb. 25, 1936 Charles F. Emery, In, Houston, Tex.
Application November 5, 1932, Serial No. 641,406 ltenewed January 7, 1936 1 Claim. (01. 128-285) This invention relates to a sanitary appliance.
An object of the invention is to provide an appliance of the character described designed to receive and retain the discharge from the uterus,
or female generative organ.
Another object is to provide a receptacle, or container, preferably formed of flexible material impervious to thepassage of liquid, and having a mouth, at one end, insertable into the external orifice of the genital canal, and shapedto be retained therein, and whose other end is preferably open and provided with means for securely retaining the same closed when the appliance is in A further object is to provide an appliance of this character particularly designed to catch and retain the menstrual flow, which may be easily retained in place, conveniently applied and used and readily cleansed and kept in a sanitary condition.
' With the above and other objects in view this invention has particular relation to certain novel featmes of construction, arrangement of parts and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanyin: drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 shows a side view of the appliance. Figure 2 shows a cross sectional view,
Figure 3 shows a plan view, of the mouth end I 80 of the appliance, and
Figured. 4 shows a sectional view of said mouth en Referring now more particularly to. the draw.- ing wherein like numerals of reference designate similarparts in. each of the figures the numeral I d a sack-like receptacle which may be formed of material that is impervious to liquid, such as rubber, rubberized fabric or other selected material.
This receptacle may be of any selected shape and size, and at one end may be reduced, as at 2. The other end of the receptacle is preferably open and adjacent said open end the receptacle may have a surrounding, releasable clamp 3, suitably attached thereto.
There is a mouthpiece 4 having the extended tubular neck 5 which may be inserted into and suitably secured in the reduced end 2. This mouthpiece may be formed of yieldable material and is formed by flaring the neck 5 outwardly to form the mouth 6 and retracting the rim 1 there- 5 of to form a yieldable anchor which is shaped to be'inserted into the genital canal and to be securely retained therein. This rim is sufliciently pliable and yieldable not to injure or irritate the adjacent parts of the body but has sufficient re- 10 sistance to anchor the appliance in place. The rim I may have an external, annular oval rib 8 to form additional anchoring means, and to further strengthen the mouth piece and to maintain the mouth open.
when inuse the open end of the receptacle may be given a double fold, as shown in Figure 2 and the clamp 3 then secured around said fold to close said open end against leakage of the contents of the receptacle. 20
In order to cleanse the receptacle it may be removed and the clamp 3 released and. the folded end then unfolded and washing fluid may then be used to wash out and cleanse the receptacle. The drawing and description disclose what is 2 now considered to be a preferredform of the invention by way of illustration only while the. broad principle of the invention will be defined by the appended claim.
What I claim is: 30 An appliance of the character described comprising a sack like receptacle formed of flexible material, said receptacle being open at one end and reduced at the other end, a releasable clamp normally closing said open end, a mouth piece 36 having an extended tubular neck fitted into said reduced end, said mouth piece being formed of yieldable material, said mouth piece having a. permanently retracted rim, said rim being thickened adjacent the mouth and tapering to a thin- 40 outwardly curved edge and an annular oval rib formed integrally with the outer side of and surrounding said rim and spaced from the edge thereof said rib forming anchoring means and. also being effective to maintain the rim retracted.
