Description

J. P. MIENHARDT. Curtain-00rd Tightener.
No. 202,852. Patented April 23, i878.
Wmssu. 'Lvw wk".
TINITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN F. MIENHARDT, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-CORD TIGHTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No- 202,852, dated April 23, 1878; application filed May 10, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN F. MIENHARDT, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Curtain Cord Tighteners, which improvement is fully set forth in the following s 'rcciiication, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 represents a side view of a tightener containing; my improvement, and Fig. 2 a sectional plan or lop view thereof.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
My invention consists in the combination of aplate having projecting lips, an intermediate screw-nut, and a non-rotating vertically-ad justable screw-rod passing; through both the not and lips, to the upper end of which the ourtain-cord is attached, the said plate being adapted to be secured to a suitable part of the window-frame or other place Where the cord may be located, while by turning the nut in either direction a positive slidingmot-ion is imparted to the screw-rod either up or down, as the case may be, and by this means the tension of the cord can be regulated.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a plate. which is constructed with two lips, B B, of corresponding shape, and which project therefrl'irn in like directions, sufficient space being left between said lips for the admission of a screw-nut, G. The plate A is also constructed with a screwshank, D, or otherwise adapted to be secured to a Window-frame or other place. Each of the lips B B is provided with a hole to admit a screw-rod, E, the up per end of which is bifurcated, and carries a roller, F, over which the curtain-cord is intended to be drawn. The screw-rod E is passed through the holes in the lips B B, and also through the nut- C, so that the nut is thereby held in place, while by turning the latter a positive motion can be imparted to the screw-rod in either direction. The screwrod E is so arranged that it can freely slide in the lips B B either up or down, without, however, being permitted to turn therein, and the best means which I have hitherto devised for eitecting this object consists in simply making the screw-rod square, the holes in the lips B B being made of corresponding shape.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of a plate having projecting lips, an intermediate screw-nut, and a nonrotating vertically-adjustable screw-rod passing through both the nut and lips, to the upper end of which the curtain-cord is attached, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 7th day of May, 1877.
JOHN FR. MIENHARDT.
