Abstract

An interlocking drawer organizer system for partitioning a drawer into multiple compartments includes a drawer comprising a floor and a perimeter wall extending from the floor, wherein the perimeter wall defines a chamber. A first panel is positionable in the chamber on the floor such that it extends across and partitions the chamber. A second panel has a slot extending through a bottom side of the second panel capable of receiving the first panel therethrough. The second panel is positionable while the first panel extends across the chamber such that the first panel is received through the slot of the second panel and the second panel extends across the chamber, further partitioning the chamber.

(G) BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

(l) Field of the Invention

The disclosure relates to drawer organizers and more particularly pertains to a new drawer organizer for partitioning a drawer into multiple compartments.

(2) DESCRIPTION OF RELATED ART INCLUDING INFORMATION DISCLOSED UNDER 37 CFR 1.97 AND 1.98

The prior art relates to drawer organizers which partition the drawer into multiple compartments using interlocking components. Several devices disclosed by the prior art use components which slide relative to each other or couple to each other through various mechanisms. However, the prior art does not disclose a drawer organization system that comprises two panels that extend across the drawer, wherein one panel has a slot for receiving the other panel therethrough.

(H) BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a drawer comprising a floor and a perimeter wall extending from the floor, wherein the perimeter wall defines a chamber. A first panel is positionable in the chamber on the floor such that it extends across and partitions the chamber. A second panel has a slot extending through a bottom side of the second panel capable of receiving the first panel therethrough. The second panel is positionable while the first panel extends across the chamber such that the first panel is received through the slot of the second panel and the second panel extends across the chamber, further partitioning the chamber.
There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.

(J) DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 7 thereof, a new drawer organizer embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.
As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 7 , the interlocking drawer organizer system 10 generally comprises a drawer 12 comprising a floor 14 and a perimeter wall 16 extending from the floor 14, wherein the perimeter wall 16 defines a chamber 18. Each of a pair of rigid first panels 20 has a pair of ends 22, a top side 24, and a bottom side 26, wherein each of the top side 24 of the first panel 20 and the bottom side 26 of the first panel 20 extend between the pair of ends 22 of the first panel 20. Each first panel 20 is positionable in the chamber 18 on the floor 14 such that the first panel 20 extends between a pair of first opposing surfaces 28 of the perimeter wall 16, thereby partitioning the chamber 18.
Each of a pair of rigid second panels 32 has a pair of ends 34, a top side 36, and a bottom side 38. Each of the top side 36 of the second panel 32 and the bottom side 38 of the second panel 32 extend between the pair of ends 34 of the second panel 32. Each second panel 32 has a set of three slots 40 extending into the bottom side 38 of the second panel 32 and terminating before reaching the top side 36 of the second panel 32. The top side 24 of each first panel 20 is receivable through each slot 40 such that the first panel 20 extends perpendicularly to the second panel 32 and the bottom side 26 of the first panel is coplanar with the bottom side 38 of the second panel 32. The first panel 20 may extend at a non-perpendicular angle to the second panel 32 when received through one of the set of three slots 40 and the bottom side 26 of the first panel 20 may not be coplanar with the bottom side 38 of the second panel 32.
Each second panel 32 is positionable in the chamber 18 while one first panel 20 of the pair of first panels 20 extends between the pair of first opposing surfaces 28 of the perimeter wall 16 such that the one first panel 20 is received through one slot 40 of the set of three slots 40 of the second panel 32 and the second panel 32 extends between a pair of second opposing surfaces 30 of the perimeter wall 16, thereby further partitioning the chamber 18. The set of three slots 40 comprise a center slot 42 and a pair of outer slots 44, wherein the center slot 42 is centered between the pair of ends 34 of the second panel 32 and each outer slot 44 is positioned a third of a length of the second panel 32 away from a respective end 34 of the second panel 32.
Each first panel 20 and each second panel 32 are constructed of a rigid material and may be constructed of a polymer such as acrylic or like material. Each first panel 20 and each second panel 32 may instead be constructed of a flexible material. Each of a plurality of bumpers 46 is constructed of a resiliently compressible and nonabrasive material and is coupled to each of a respective end 22 of each first panel 20 and a respective end 34 of each second panel 32. Each bumper 46 protects the drawer 12 from dents and scratches that may be caused by each first panel 20 and each second panel 32 bumping and abrading the drawer 12.
In use, one or both first panels 20 and one or both second panels 32 are positioned within the chamber 18 to partition it into multiple compartments 48 to organize the contents of the drawer 12. Several configurations are possible. A first configuration 50 of the system 10 comprises the one first panel 20 extending between the pair of first opposing surfaces 28 of the perimeter wall 16 and one second panel 32 of said pair of second panels 32 extending between said pair of second opposing surfaces 30 of the perimeter wall 16 such that the one first panel 20 is received through the central slot 40 of the one second panel 32. The first configuration 50 thereby partitions the chamber 18 into four compartments 48.
A second configuration 52 comprises the one first panel 20 extending between the pair of first opposing surfaces 28 of the perimeter wall 16 and each second panel 32 extending between the pair of second opposing surfaces 30 of the perimeter wall 16 such that the one first panel 20 is received through the central grooves of each second panel 32. The second configuration 52 thereby partitions the chamber 18 into six compartments 48.
A third configuration 54 comprises each first panel 20 extending between the pair of first opposing surfaces 28 of the perimeter wall 16 and each second panel 32 extending between the pair of second opposing surfaces 30 of the perimeter wall 16 such that each first panel 20 is received through associated outer grooves of each second panel 32. The third configuration 54 thereby partitions the chamber 18 into nine compartments 48.
With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.

Claims

1. An interlocking drawer organizer system comprising:

a drawer comprising a floor and a perimeter wall extending from said floor, said perimeter wall defining a chamber, said perimeter wall having a pair of first opposing surfaces and a pair of second opposing, surfaces, each first opposing surface and each second opposing surface being continuous and planar;

a first panel having a pair of ends, said first panel having a top side and a bottom side, each of said top side of said first panel and said bottom side of said first panel extending between said pair of ends of said first panel, said first panel being positionable in said chamber on said floor such that said first panel abuts and extends between said pair of first opposing surfaces of said perimeter wall, thereby partitioning said chamber; and

a second panel having a pair of ends, said second panel having a top side and a bottom side, each of said top side of said second panel and said bottom side of said second panel extending between said pair of ends of said second panel, said second panel having a slot in said bottom side of said second panel, said slot terminating before reaching said top side of said second panel, said first panel being receivable through said slot, said second panel being positionable in said chamber while said first panel extends between said pair of first opposing surfaces of said perimeter wall such that said first panel is received through said slot of said second panel and said second panel abuts and extends between said pair of second opposing surfaces of said perimeter wall, thereby further partitioning the chamber.

2. The system of claim 1, further comprising said first panel being one of a pair of first panels.

3. The system of claim 1, further comprising said second parcel being one of a pair of second panels.

4. The system of claim 1, further comprising said slot being one of a plurality of slots.

5. The system of claim 1, further comprising said plurality of slots being three slots, said plurality of slots comprising a center slot and a pair of outer slots, said center slot being centered between said pair of ends of said second panel, each said outer slot being positioned a third of a length of said second panel away from a respective said end of said second panel.

6. The system of claim 1, further comprising said first panel being receivable through said slot such that said first, panel extends perpendicularly to said second panel.

7. The system of claim 1, further comprising said first panel being receivable through said slot such that said bottom side of said first panel is coplanar with said bottom side of said second panel.

8. The system of claim 1, further comprising each of said first, panel and said second panel being rigid.

9. The system of claim 1, further comprising each of said first panel and said second panel being constructed of a polymer.

10. The system of claim 9, further comprising each of said first panel and said second panel being constructed of acrylic.

11. The system of claim 1, further comprising a plurality of bumpers, each said bumper being constructed of a resiliently compressible and nonabrasive material, each said bumper being coupled to each of a respective said end of each said first panel and a respective said end of each said second panel.

12. The system of claim 11, further comprising each said bumper being constructed of rubber.

13. An interlocking drawer organizer system comprising:

a drawer comprising a floor and a perimeter wall extending from said floor, said perimeter wall defining a chamber, said perimeter wall having a pair of first opposing surfaces and a pair of second opposing surfaces, each first opposing surface and each second opposing surface being continuous and planar;

a pair of first panels, each said first panel having a pair of ends, each said first panel having a top side and a bottom side, each of said top side of said first panel and said bottom side of said first panel extending between said pair of ends of said first panel, each said first panel being rigid, each said first panel being positionable in said chamber on said floor such that said first panel abuts and extends between said pair of first opposing surfaces of said perimeter wall, thereby partitioning said chamber;

a pair of second panels, each said second panel having a pair of ends, each said second panel having a top side and a bottom side, each of said top side of said second panel and said bottom side of said second panel extending between said pair of ends of said second panel, each said second panel being rigid,

each said second panel having a set of three slots extending into said bottom side of said second panel, each said slot terminating before reaching said top side of said second panel, said top side of each said first panel being receivable through each said slot such that said first panel extends perpendicularly to said second panel and said bottom side of said first panel is coplanar with said bottom side of said second panel,

each said second panel being positionable in said chamber while one first panel of said pair of first panels extends between said pair of first opposing surfaces of said perimeter wall such that said one first panel is received through one slot of said set of three slots of said second panel and said second panel abuts and extends between said pair of second opposing surfaces of said perimeter wall, thereby further partitioning the chamber,

said set of three slots comprising a center slot and a pair of outer slots, said center slot being centered between said pair of ends of said second panel, each said outer slot being positioned a third of a length of said second panel away from a respective said end of said second panel; and

a plurality of bumpers, each said bumper being constructed of a resiliently compressible and nonabrasive material, each said bumper being coupled to each of a respective said end of each said first panel and a respective said end of each said second panel.
