Description

D. BENSEL BLADE HOLDER Filed April 27, 1954 ATTORNEYS Patented Dec. 3, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BLADE HOLDER Duryea Bensel, New York, N. Y., assignerY to Hugo Mock, New York, N. Y.
This invention relates to improvements in blade holders and more especially to the blade holders for holding used razor blades of the wafer or Gillette type.
The principal object of the invention is the provision 'of a convenient holder for wafer razor blades in which the blade will be safely held when not used, in which the blade may be convenietly A and quickly extruded for use, and in which the blade is replaceable at will.
Further objects of the invention will be apparent from the specification and drawing in which:-
Fig. l is a perspective View of the holder with the blade concealed therein.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the holder with the blade extruded and in operative condition.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view along the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the interior holder for the blade into which the blade is directly inserted.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the exterior holder into which the holder shown in Fig. 4 fits.
Fig. 6 is a top view of the blank from which the holder shown in Fig. 5 is formed.
Fig. '7 is a top plan View of the blank from which the holder shown in Fig. 4 is formed.
I0 designates the outside holder having a slot II cut therein; I2 and I3 designate the opposite sides of the outer holder I0; I4 designates the inner holder shown in blank form in Fig. 7; I5 is the finger-piece extending through the slot I I and which may be formed integrally from the surface of the blank shown in Fig. '7; I6 is a slight protuberance formed in the holder I4 which acts to retard frictionally the movement of the holder I4 within the outer holder I0; I8 and I9 represent the opposite sides of the holder I4; I'I is the blade.
The blank I4 is made from sheet brass or other flexible metal and integral therewith is formed a thumb-piece I5 which is adapted to slide in the slot I I. Also integral therewith is the slight protuberance I6 whichis intended to retard the movement of the holder I4 in and out of the holder I0.
The holder I0 is formed from a sheet of brass or other flexible metal but of heavier gauge than the metal forming the inner holder I4.
To insert the holder I4 within the holder Ill after both I0 and I4 are in the forms shown respectively in Figs. 4 and 5, the lower edges of the holder Ill are lifted so as to provide space for insertion of the finger-piece I5, and the holder I4 is then sprung into place.
The blade I1 may be inserted into the holder I4 either before or after the holder is in posi- 5 The holder I4 should be made of metal suili ciently springy so as to retain a firm grip upon theblade I'I, but considerably thinner than the stock of which the holder I0 is made. 10
It should also be noted that the blank of the holder I4 is not bent at the center but at a distance from the center as the side I 9 is somewhat longer than the side I8, to permit the easier insertion of the blade. 15
Having fully described my invention what I claim is:-
1. A blade holder for wafer razor blades comprising a folded cover member, a folded blade carrier held inside of the cover member, slots 20 within said cover` member and within said blade carrier registering with each other, and means to reciprocate said blade carrier within said cover member.
2. A blade holder for wafer razor blades com- 25 prising a folded cover member having a slot, a folded blade carrier having a slot held within the cover member and a pintle attached to the blade carrier by which the blade may be retracted in and out of the cover member.
3. A blade holder for wafer razor blades comprising an outer member of two equal sized leaves joined together, a blade carrier held within said leaves, a slot in one of said leaves and in said blade carrier registering with each other, and a thumb-piece attached to said carrier by which said blade may be reciprocated within said slot.
4. A blade holder comprising a folded cover member, a slot in said cover member, a ilexible blade carrier attached to and inserted within said cover member, and a thumb-piece attached to the blade carrier by which the razor blade may be reciprocated within said cover member.
5. A blade holder comprising a cover member, a slot in said cover member, a flexible and resilient blade carrier having a slot therein and holding the blade, and a thumb-piece attached to the blade carrier by which the blade may be reciprocated in and out of said cover member.
