Abstract

The wig with recloseable part-revealing slit includes a form-fitting wig cap of vented stretch lace having a 0.5″×3″ slit extending posteriorly from the front border to form or optionally reveal a natural center or side part. The wig has comb clips attached to beneath the wig cap on opposite sides of the slit so that the slit may be completely closed by fastening the clips together when 100% coverage of the scalp is needed or desired. Alternatively, the clips may be left unfastened to leave the slit open ⅛″ to 1″ to reveal the natural scalp or hair part, when desired. Wig hair wefts adjacent the slit are also attached beneath the wig cap, and the wig hair is folded over through the slit so that hair wig wefts adjacent the slit are not visible while wearing the wig, leaving a hair part with a natural appearance.

Description

    BACKGROUND 1. Field
  • The disclosure of the present patent application relates to wigs, toupees, and hairpieces, and particularly to a wig with recloseable part-revealing slit.
  • 2. Description of the Related Art
  • Many persons afflicted by baldness or thinning hair resort to wearing a wig or toupee for cosmetic reasons. A wig has a wig cap (also referred to as a base or foundation) and hairs attached to the wig cap by machine or hand stitching. The naturalness of the wig is often affected by the manner in which a part in the hair is simulated. Some wigs use a flesh-colored wig cap to simulate the look of the scalp, while others use a thin, transparent lace portion through which the scalp is visible. Other wigs are made with a U-shaped notch or a portion that may be cut out and removed from the wig cap where a part would be located in order to expose the wearer's scalp or natural hair part, when feasible. A problem with such solutions is that flesh-colored or transparent lace caps are often visible to the naked eye, and U-shaped notches or cutouts often leave the wig hair wefts or hair knots exposed, making it obvious that a wig or toupee is being used to conceal hair loss. To date, a wig or toupee that permits the wearer to optionally reveal the wearer's natural scalp or hairline at a part in the hair or to close the gap or notch in the wig cap for full coverage, depending upon changes in the wearer's natural hairline, is not known in the art. Thus, a wig with recloseable part-revealing slit solving the aforementioned problems is desired.
  • SUMMARY
  • The wig with recloseable part-revealing slit includes a form-fitting wig cap of vented stretch lace having a 0.5″×3″ slit extending posteriorly from the front border to form or optionally reveal a natural center or side part. The wig has comb clips attached beneath the wig cap on opposite sides of the slit so that the slit may be completely closed by fastening the clips together when 100% coverage of the scalp is needed or desired. Alternatively, the clips may be left unfastened to leave the slit open ⅛″ to 1″ to reveal the natural scalp or hair part, when desired. Wig hair wefts adjacent the slit are also attached beneath the wig cap, and the wig hair (and natural hair, when appropriate) is folded over through the slit and combed above the wig cap to the side the wig hair weft is attached so that hair wig wefts and wig hair knots adjacent the slit are not visible while wearing the wig, leaving a hair part with a natural appearance.
  • These and other features of the present subject matter will become readily apparent upon further review of the following specification.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the wig with recloseable part-revealing slit, designated generally as 10 in the drawings, may be worn with the slit fully closed for 100% coverage of the scalp, or with the slit 12 open from ⅛″ to 1″ to reveal a portion of the wearer's natural hairline and part 14 in the hair, or a portion of the wearer's scalp, as desired. The slit 12 may be may be centered along a front-to-back midline of the wig 10 for a center part, or may be offset to either side for a right side part or a left side part, as desired.
  • As shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the slit 12 has a finishing edge 16 that is formed by attaching the wefts 18 of the wig hair beneath the wig cap 20 or base and folding the wig hair 22 over the edge 16 onto the top of the wig cap 20 so that the wefts 18 (or hair knots when the wig hairs 22 are individually hand sewn to the cap 20) are not visible from the top of the head or along the edge 16 of the slit 12 when the slit 12 is open. The slit 12 measures about 0.5″×3″. As shown in FIG. 1, when the slit 12 is closed for 100% coverage of the scalp, the wig hair 22 drawn through the slit 12 and folded back over the edge and brushed or combed back over the wig cap 20 defines the part 14 in the wig hair 22. Alternatively, as shown in FIG. 2, the slit 12 may be opened from ⅛″ to 1″ to expose the scalp and/or draw the wearer's natural hair through the open slit 12 to blend with the wig hair 22 folded over the edge 16 of the slit 12 to reveal a natural hair part 14.
  • As shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, the wig cap 20 or base is made from vented stretch lace. The rows of wefts 24 of wig hair 22 are attached to the warps 26 of the wig cap 20 in overlapping manner, venting the wig cap 20 for the comfort of the wearer. The wig cap 20 has an adjustable strap 28 extending adjacent the periphery of the cap 20 so that the wig 10 may be form-fitted to the wearer's head, the stretch lace construction maintaining the wig 10 and the slit 12 in proper position to reveal a part 14 having a natural appearance while concealing that the wearer is wearing a wig 10.
  • As shown in FIGS. 4, 5, and 7, the wig 10 has fasteners attached to the bottom face of the wig cap 20 on opposite sides of the slit 12 adjacent the edges 16 for closing the slit 12 when it is desired that the wig 10 cover 100% of the wearer's scalp. The fasteners are preferably comb clips 30 that may partially overlie the wefts 20 of wig hair 22 adjacent the edges of the slit 12. The comb clips 30 have teeth formed of alternating prongs 32 and loops 34 projecting in the direction of the slit 12 so that when it is desired to close the slit 12, the comb clips are approximated towards each other until they snap together, thereby securing the slit 12 in a closed configuration. When it is desired to open the slit 12 to reveal a natural part, the clips may be unfastened by pulling them apart, whereby the part-revealing slit 12 is recloseable. The comb clips 30 may be attached to the wig cap 20 by stitching, adhesive, fusing, or any other suitable method known in the art.
  • Thus, the wig with recloseable part-revealing slit provides the user with a simple but elegant solution to the problem of altering the appearance of the wearer's hair in response to changes in the condition of the wearer's natural hair or scalp or to satisfy his/her whim without revealing that the wearer is concealing hair loss by wearing a wig or toupee.
  • It is to be understood that the wig with recloseable part-revealing slit is not limited to the specific embodiments described above, but encompasses any and all embodiments within the scope of the generic language of the following claims enabled by the embodiments described herein, or otherwise shown in the drawings or described above in terms sufficient to enable one of ordinary skill in the art to make and use the claimed subject matter.
