claims. (ol. ige-m41) lIlhe invention relates generally to cooking stoves and more particularly to a sliding broiler drawer construction for such stoves wherein the body of the broiler dra-wer is slidably supported on a slidable carrier so as to provide `for an appreciable amount of movement of the t broiler drawer out of the stove body.
, The primary object of the present invention is to provide an improved broiler drawer of this character.
Another object is to provide a broiler drawer of this character where' movements of the broiler body on the extension carrier, and movements of the carrier relatively to the stove body'are controlled by actuation of the door of the broiler compartment.
Another object is to provide an improved broiler construction of theA extension carrier type wherein the door forl the broiler compartment is mounted on the outer end rier for movement relative thereto and is arranged in such relative 'movement to control the position of the broiler body on ythe carrier.A
Other objects and advantages will become apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawingsl which illustrate the preferred embodiment of the invention, and in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmental vertical sectional view taken through a stove embodying the features of the invention, and showing the broiler in its withdrawn position.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the `broiler Fig. 3 is a fragmentalview taken in plan section and showing the parts in the same relation as in Fig. l.
Fig. 4 is a front elevational view showing the 4parts in the same relation as in Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmental sectional view taken along the line 5--5 of Fig. 2.
In the form chosen for disclosure the invention is embodied in a stove having a compartment I0 formed by side Aand rear walls II and I2 and having at its forward side a. door frame I3 with a door opening M therein. Within the compartment i@ a broiler body i5 is supported for movement horizontally out of the compartment through theopening ld from the position of Fig. 2 to the position shown in Fig. l. The broiler body l5 is preferably openat the front and .is formed from sheet metal to provide upsta-nding side walls I6 with brackets Il? thereon so that a broiler pan or rack I8 may be inserted horizonof the extension carl tally into the broiler body so as to be supported by any desired pair of brackets Il'.
I'he preferred form of support for the broiler body I5 embodies a slidable carrier I9 mounted in the compartment Il) for movement to the pros ljecting position of Fig. 1,and upon which carrier the broiler body I5 is mounted for sliding movement to an overhangingl position such as that show n in Fig. l, beyond the end of the carrier. To control the shifting movement of the 10 broiler body I5 on the-carrier I9, and serve as a closure for the open end of the broiler' body and for thevopenin'g I4, a door 2| is pivoted on the forward end of the carrier and is provided with bracket ,arms 22 rigid therewith which,.15 through the medium of links 23, serve to reciprocate thebroiler `body on the carrier. Thus'by grasping a handle 2d on the door 2l, the operator may withdraw the carrier I 9 to the projecting position of Fig. 1 while maintaining the door 2| 20 in `its vertical position so that the forward end of the broiler body I5 remains closed and the broiler body is maintained in the same relation to the carrier I9 as is shown in Fig. 42. IIf the operator then desires to withdraw the broiler body 25 a greater distance, the door 2l is dropped to the horizontal position of Fig. 1, which movement through the arms 22 and links 23 causes shiftingl of the broiler body outwardly of the compartment and along the carrier I9. In the form illustrated, the carrier I9 consists in two elongated side members 25 of L-shaped cross section (Figl 5) maintained in spaced rela-I tion at opposite sides of the compartment I0 by transverse struts 26 connecting the ends of the $5 two members 25, and thev carrier is supported and guided for horizontal movement by horizontal guide member rails 2l mounted in the compartment I Il on opposite sides thereof. The carrier I9 is preferably supported adjacent the forward 4o ends of the rails 2l by means of rollers 28 mounted on the guide rails 2l and engaging horizontally projecting anges 25a (Figs. d and 5) of the side members 25. At its rear or inner end the carrier i9 engages the guide rail 21 so as to pre- 45 vent appreciable movement in either an upward or downward direction whereby to render the carrier effective as a projecting or cantilever support for the broiler body when positioned as in. Fig. 1. For this purpose each end 26B of the rear strut 26 (Fig. 5) extends over an inwardly projecting horizontal ilange 2te formed onthe adjacent guide rail 2, and a bracket 29 connected to the strut 25 extends beneath the lange 2,' sommo I lo This construction provides space for the' supporting means and yet-it permits the broiler body to be of the maximum depth. At itsrear or inner end, the broiler body I is held against vertical displacement by guide members 32 formed from 1s sheet metan straps bolted at as to me bottom of the broiler body and extending beneath the side members 25 as shown in Fig. 5, and each .provided with a part 3 2a engaging the upper surfaces of the flanges i5El of the side members. The outer ends of the guide members y32 are bent upwardly las at 34 along the outer-sides of the members 25 so as to be located between the members and the guide rails 21.
'f In the preferred mounting oi' the door 2l, the
all of its positions, located a substantial distance v from the end of the carrier. Thus when the door 2l is swung about the pivotal axis 35, it moves downwardly at a rate which causes it to move clear of the outwardly moving broiler body I9. The arms 22 extend a substantial distance beyond the pivotal axis 35 and are pivoted at V36 (Fig. 1) to the ends of the links 23. The links23, in turn, extend rearwardly along the sides of the broiler 4o body and are pivotally connected at 31 to the-up-v standing ends 34 of the guide members 32. In order to clear the path of the links 23, the iianges 2la terminate substantially at the mid-points of the rails 21, as indicated'at 33 in Figs. 1 and 3. 15j- To limit the withdrawing movement of the carrier I9, each side member 25 carries a stop 39 (Figs. 1 and 2) adapted-to engagethe rollers 28,. and if desired a depending guard may also be associated with each side member 25 so as to en- 50 close the rollers 28 when the carrier is withdrawn.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that the invention provides a broiler drawer wherein the door or end'closure of .the drawer serves as a removable closure for the forward end of the broiler oogbody as well as for thecompartment door open ing.' It will also be clear that the novel association of the elements of the device provides a' considerable range ofmovement for-the broiler body.` and throughout this entire range. the movement' oog-is controlledy by one handle carried by the door.
