  • The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a stand up sander assembly according to an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 2 is a perspective view showing a sanding disk being positioned on a coupler of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 3 is an exploded perspective view of an embodiment of the disclosure.

  • FIG. 5 is a bottom view of sanding disk of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 6 is a bottom view of cup of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 6 thereof, a new sander device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.
  • As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 6, the stand up sander assembly 10 generally comprises a cup 12 is mountable to a drive output 14 of a weed trimmer 16 such that the cup 12 is rotated by the weed trimmer 16 when the weed trimmer 16 is turned on. The weed trimmer 16 may be a gas weed trimmer, an electric weed trimmer or any other type of powered weed trimmer that employs a rotating drive output. The cup 12 has a basal wall 18 and a perimeter wall 20 extending away therefrom, and the perimeter wall 20 is continuously arcuate about a center point of the basal wall 18 such that the cup 12 has a circular shape.
  • A receiver 22 is integrated into the basal wall 18 and the receiver 22 is centrally positioned on the basal wall 18. The receiver 22 receives the drive output 14 of the weed trimmer 16 such that the cup 12 is rotated about the center point of the basal wall 18 when the weed trimmer 16 is turned on. The perimeter wall 20 has an inwardly facing surface 24 and the inwardly facing surface 24 has a pair of engagement points 26 thereon. The engagement points 26 are positioned on opposite sides of the perimeter wall 20 from each other. A fastener 28, such as a screw or the like, is extendable through the receiver 22 and engages the drive output 14 for retaining the cup 12 on the drive output 14.
  • A coupler 30 is provided and the coupler 30 is removably coupled to the cup 12. The coupler 30 lies on a plane that is oriented perpendicular to a rotational axis of the drive output 14. The coupler 30 comprises a disk 32 that has a first surface 34 and a second surface 36. The coupler 30 includes a pair of engagements 38 that is each coupled to and extends away from the first surface 34 of the disk 32. Each of the engagements 38 is positioned on opposite sides of the disk 32 from each other. Additionally, each of the engagements 38 releasably engages a respective one of the engagement points 26 on the inwardly facing surface 24 of the perimeter wall 20 of the cup 12. The disk 32 lies on a plane that is oriented coplanar to the basal wall 18 of the cup 12 when the engagements 38 engage the engagement points 26.
  • The coupler 30 includes a mating member 40 that is coupled to the second surface 36 of the disk 32. The mating member 40 completely covers the second surface 36 and the mating member 40 has an exposed surface 42 with respect to the disk 32. The mating member 40 may comprise a hook portion of a hook and loop fastener. A sanding disk 44 is provided and the sanding disk 44 is removably attached to the coupler 30. In this way the sanding disk 44 can be positioned against a surface 46 to be sanded when the weed trimmer 16 is manipulated. The surface 46 to be sanded may be a floor or other surface that would otherwise require a user to bend over or to kneel on the surface. Moreover, having the sanding disk 44 being positioned on the drive output 14 of the weed trimmer 16 allows the user to stand away from the sanding disk 44, thereby reducing the amount of dust that the user might inhale during sanding.
  • The sanding disk 44 is comprised of an abrasive material thereby facilitating the sanding disk 44 to sand the surface. The sanding disk 44 has a primary surface 48 and a secondary surface 50. The secondary surface 50 is comprised of a fibrous material thereby facilitating the exposed surface 42 of the mating member 40 to releasably engage the secondary surface 50. The primary surface 48 is exposed when the sanding disk 44 is coupled to the mating member 40. The primary surface 48 is comprised of an abrasive material, such as sand paper or the like. Additionally, the sanding disk 44 may be an oscillating sanding disk of any conventional design.
  • In use, the existing trimming head on the weed trimmer 16 is removed from the drive output 14 and the cup 12 is attached to the drive output 14. The coupler 30 is attached to the cup 12 and the sanding disk 44 is attached to the mating member 40. In this way the weed trimmer 16 can be employed to rotate the sanding disk 44 for sanding a floor or other surface. Thus, the floor can be sanded without requiring the user to bend over. Additionally, the user can avoid inhaling dust that would commonly be associated with employing a hand held sander to sand the floor.
  • With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
