Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION (a) Field of the Invention
  • The present invention relates to travel bag technology and more particularly to a travel bag retractable handle assembly, which is practical for hanging a carry-on bag, a shopping bag, or other hanging items.
  • (b) Description of the Prior Art
  • A conventional travel bag mainly comprises a travel bag body, a retractable handle disposed on the back side of the travel bag body, and a plurality of rollers coupled to the bottom side of the travel bag body. Thus, the user can pull out the retractable handle and then hold the retractable handle with one hand to drag the travel bag. However, the items that people carry during their travels are usually not just a travel bag; they usually carry a carry-on bag, or they may shop at a duty-free shop while waiting at the airport, so they may also carry paper bags or plastic bags. Paper bags or plastic bags are usually not placed in the travel bag but directly held by the user. It is quite inconvenient to carry some items with the hand while dragging a travel bag. Conventional travel bags do not provide any structural design for hanging an object.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention has been accomplished under the circumstances in view. It is one object of the present invention to provide a travel bag retractable handle assembly, which provides two hanging protrusions at two opposite ends of the grip so that the user can securely hang the lifting strap of a carry-on bag, shopping bag or other objects on either of the two opposite ends of the grip.
  • To achieve this and other objects of the present invention, a travel bag retractable handle assembly comprises a top mount mounted on a rear top side of a travel bag, and a retractable handle retractably mounted in the top mount. The retractable handle comprises a horizontal grip, two telescopic rods connected in parallel to a bottom side of the horizontal grip and axially movably inserted through the top mount to an inner bottom side of the travel bag, and two hanging protrusions located at two opposite ends of the horizontal grip for allowing an object to be hung on the horizontal grip. Each hanging protrusion can be formed of a lateral bump, a top bump, or both.
  • Through the structural design of the lateral bumps and/or top bumps of the hanging protrusions at the two opposite ends of the horizontal grip, the user can securely hang the lifting strap of a hanging object on either of the two opposite ends of the horizontal grip. Therefore, it is possible to save the effort of holding a plastic bag or a carry-on bag during travel with a hand.
  • Other advantages and features of the present invention will be fully understood by reference to the following specification in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which like reference signs denote like components of structure.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is a schematic elevational view illustrating a travel bag retractable handle assembly in accordance with the present invention.
  • FIG. 2, corresponding to FIG. 1, illustrates the grip when received in the top mount.
  • FIG. 3, similar to FIG. 2, illustrates the lifting strap of the hanging object hung on one hanging protrusion of the grip when the grip is received in the top mount.
  • FIG. 4 illustrates an alternate form of the hanging protrusions of the grip.
  • FIG. 5 illustrates another alternate form of the hanging protrusions of the grip.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the invention provides a travel bag retractable handle assembly, which is practical for hanging a carry-on bag, a shopping bag or other items on either of the two opposite ends of the retractable handle thereof. The travel bag retractable handle assembly comprises a top mount 20 mounted on a rear top side of a travel bag 10, and a retractable handle 30 retractably mounted in the top mount 20. The retractable handle 30 comprises a horizontal grip 31 integrally formed of a plastic material or assembled of component parts for the hand to hold, and two parallel telescopic rods 32 connected to a bottom side of the grip 31 and axially movably inserted through the top mount 20 to an inner bottom side of the travel bag 10.
  • More particularly, the grip 31 has two hanging protrusions 33 respectively located at two opposite ends thereof. Preferably, the hanging protrusions 33 are lateral bumps 331 respectively and transversely protruding over (i.e. outside of) the outer side 321 of the respective adjacent telescopic rod 32. Thus, as shown in FIG. 3, the user can hang a lifting strap 41 of a carry-on bag, shopping bag or other hanging object 40 on either of the hanging protrusions 33 (lateral bumps 331) of the grip 31. Therefore, it will save the effort and hassle of holding a plastic bag or a carry-on bag with a hand during travel.
  • Moreover, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the grip 31 further has two protruding connections 312 located at the bottom side thereof. The respective top ends of the two telescopic rods 32 are respectively fastened to the two protruding connections 312. Further, the lateral bumps 331 respectively protrude over (i.e. outside of) the outer sides 3121 of the protruding connections 312. The lateral bumps 331 are so configured that a lifting strap passing space 34 is defined in the bottom side of each lateral bump 331 adjacent to the respective protruding connection 312 for the passing of the lifting strap 41 of the hanging object 40. Thus, the lifting strap 41 of the hanging object 40 can be conveniently hung on one lateral bump 331, and secured in place when the grip 31 is received in the top mount 20.
  • As further shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 again, the top mount 20 has the top side thereof recessed to form a grip accommodation open chamber 21. A groove 23 is located on each of the two opposite side walls 22 of the grip accommodation open chamber 21. When the retractable handle 30 is lowered to the extent, the grip 31 is accommodated in the grip accommodation open chamber 21 with the two opposite lateral bumps 331 respectively received in the grooves 23, thus preventing the lifting strap 41 of the hanging object 40 from falling off the grip 31.
  • In order to prevent sliding of the hanging object 40 on the grip 31, as shown in FIGS. 1-3, an anti-slip pattern 35 is formed on each of the two opposite ends of the top wall of the grip 31. The anti-slip pattern 35 can be of an embossed or concave pattern, and the pattern can be composed of a plurality of straight stripes, diagonal stripes, meshes or granules. Thus, after the lifting strap 41 of the hanging object 40 is hung on the grip 31, the anti-slip pattern 35 prevents the lifting strap 41 from sliding.
  • FIG. 4 illustrates an alternate form of the hanging protrusions 33 of the grip 31. According to this alternate form, a top bump 332 is formed on the top side of each lateral bump 331. FIG. 5 illustrates another alternate form of the hanging protrusions 33 of the grip 31. According to this alternate form, the aforesaid lateral bumps 331 are eliminated, and only two top bumps 332 are formed on the grip 31. Through the structural design of the top bumps 332, the user can securely hang the lifting strap 41 of the hanging object 40 on either of the two opposite ends of the grip 31.
  • Although particular embodiments of the invention have been described in detail for purposes of illustration, various modifications and enhancements may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Accordingly, the invention is not to be limited except as by the appended claims.
