5. E. MOUNTFORD El AL METHOD OF CONSTRUGTING ELASTIC HOSEWEAR Filed Oct. 19, 1933,
Inventor; s 11/285627 ow'fifi rr/ Patented Oct. 15, 1935 METHOD OF CONSTRUCTING ELASTIC HOSEWEAR Sara Elizabeth Mountford and John 0. Frost, Philadelphia, Pa.
Application October 19, 1933, Serial No. 694,328
1 Claim.
The present invention appertains to new and useful improvements in hosewear, and more particularly to a method of constructing elastic hosewear and even more particularly a method of attaching retaining bands to the upper leg portion of the article.
During the course of the following specification, other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent.
In the drawing:-
Figure 1 represents a fragmentary elevational and broken away view disclosing a stocking form after it has been dipped and cooled twice or as many more times as is found practical.
Figure 2 represents a fragmentary and broken away elevational view disclosing the retaining band after having been placed on the mold supporting article shown in Figure 1, in stretched condition.
Figure 3 represents a fragmentary and broken away side elevational view of the article on the form after the article and bands have been dipped and cooled twice.
Figure 4 represents the article with its retaining upper portion removed from the form and shown worn on the limb of a person.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen in Figure 1, that numeral 5 represents the article forming mold with the article fixed thereon after the same has been formed by two dipping and cooling steps.
Subsequently to the acquisition shown in Figure 1, one or more elastic bands 1 are stretched and placed over the article 6 at the upper portion thereof in stretched condition (see Figure 2) Figure 3 shows the form 5 after the article 6 in Figure 2 with the bands I thereon, has been dipped and cooled twice, thus embedding the bands in 5 stretched condition within the upper portion of the legwear.
Now by removing the article from the form or mold 5, the upper portion of the article will crimp due to the contracting tendency 'of the bands I. It is this tendency of the bands to contract which affords the retaining ability of the upper portion of the legwear.
The foregoing specification has set forth the method specifically and obviously certain changes therein may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:-
A method of constructing elastic leg wear con- 20 sisting in dipping a mold in a latex substance, permitting this coating on the mold to dry and set to form a hose-shaped article on the mold, applying a stretched elastic band around the upper portion of the article on the mold, redipping the 25 mold with the article and band thereon to increase the thickness of the article and to cover and embed the said band in stretched condition on the said article, permitting the article to dry and set, and removing the completed article from the mold to permit contraction of the band and incident crimping of the upper portion of the article.
