  • Various types of gap filling devices are known in the prior art. However, what has ii been needed is a gap cover for a stovetop including a pair of rectangular plates including a right plate and a left plate. A width of each of the right plate and the left plate substantially conforms to a width of a gap between a stovetop and a countertop. What has been further needed is for each of the right plate and the left plate to have a pair of keyhole-shaped mounting holes including a top mounting hole and a bottom mounting hole. Each of the top mounting hole and the bottom mounting hole has a substantially semicircular upper portion and a substantially semicircular lower portion. Lastly, what has been needed is for each of a right pair of screws and a left pair of screws to be affixed to the stovetop. The pair of mounting holes of each of the right plate and the left plate is removably engageable with the right pair of screws and the left pair of screws, respectively. The gap cover for a stovetop is thus structured to cover the gap between the stovetop and the countertop in order to prevent spillage and promote a more hygienic and easily cleanable kitchen.
  • FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to gap filling devices, and more particularly, to a gap cover for a stovetop.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The general purpose of the present gap cover for a stovetop, described subsequently in greater detail, is to provide a gap cover for a stovetop which has many novel features that result in a gap cover for a stovetop which is not anticipated, rendered obvious, suggested, or even implied by prior art, either alone or in combination thereof.
  • To accomplish this, the present gap cover for a stovetop includes a pair of rectangular plates including a right plate and a left plate. The pair of plates is optionally stainless steel and, alternately, plastic, for durability and ease of cleaning. Each of the right plate and the left plate has a right side, a left side, a top side, a bottom side, a right top corner, a left top corner, a right bottom corner, a left bottom corner, and a pair of keyhole-shaped mounting holes including a top mounting hole and a bottom mounting hole. Each of the top mounting hole and the bottom mounting hole has a substantially semicircular upper portion and a substantially semicircular lower portion. Each of the top mounting hole and the bottom mounting hole of the right plate is disposed through the right plate proximal the left top corner and the left bottom corner, respectively, and each of the top mounting hole and the bottom mounting hole of the left plate is disposed through the left plate proximal the right top corner and the right bottom corner, respectively.
  • A length of each of the right plate and the left plate substantially conforms to a width of a stovetop, and a width of each of the right plate and the left plate substantially conforms to a width of a gap between the stovetop and a countertop. A diameter of the upper portion of each of the pair of mounting holes of each of the pair of plates is greater than a diameter of the lower portion of each of the pair of mounting holes of each of the pair of plates.
  • The gap cover for a stovetop further includes a plurality of a pair of screws including a right pair of screws and a left pair of screws. Each of the right pair of screws and the left pair of screws has a top screw and a bottom screw. The top screw and the bottom screw of the right pair of screws is affixed to a right lower edge and a right upper edge, respectively, of the stovetop, preferably electric, and the top screw and the bottom screw of the left pair of screws is affixed to a left lower edge and a left upper edge, respectively, of the stovetop. The diameter of the upper portion of each of the pair of mounting holes of each of the pair of plates is greater than a diameter of a head of each of the top screw and the bottom screw of each of the pair of screws. The diameter of the lower portion of each of the pair of mounting holes of each of the pair of plates is less than the diameter of the head of each of the top screw and the bottom screw of each of the pair of screws. It is envisioned that the plurality of the pair of screws can be affixed to both new and preexisting electric stovetops. The head of each screw can also have a decorative covering, similar to a button, for aesthetic purposes.
  • The pair of mounting holes of each of the right plate and the left plate is removably engageable with the right pair of screws and the left pair of screws, respectively. Each of the right plate and the left plate has a locked position and an alternate unlocked position. Each of the right plate and the left plate is in the unlocked position when the head of each of the top screw and the bottom screw of each of the right pair of screws and the left pair of screws, respectively, is slidably disposed within the upper portion of each of the top mounting hole and the bottom mounting hole of each of the right plate and the left plate, respectively. Each of the right plate and the left plate is in the locked position when the head of each of the top screw and the bottom screw of each of the right pair of screws and the left pair of screws, respectively, is slidably disposed within the lower portion of each of the top mounting hole and the bottom mounting hole of each of the right plate and the left plate, respectively.
  • Thus has been broadly outlined the more important features of the present gap cover for a stovetop so that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated.
