Abstract
An infant bed and chair that includes: a base; a back support attached to the base; and at least one vertical support attached to an underside of the back support, wherein the at least one vertical supports enable vertical elevation of the back support. The infant bed and chair may further include slit openings along an inner surface of the back support and along an inner surface of the base. Preferably, the infant bed and chair may include a cushion. In one particular embodiment, the at least one vertical support elevates the back support to about a 30-degree angle.
Description
- The present invention relates to an infant bed and chair that may be used as a temporary chair and/or bed for use with an infant.
- Many infants have special beds designed for their use. Infant bedding typically includes some type of side rails or walls to help contain the infant within the bed. Further the beds include a small mattress and may include bumpers along the side walls of the bed. Smaller beds or playpens are also available in the form of bassinettes or playpens that have similar construction. The bassinette provides more of a small cradle that is portable typically with a flat mattress or cushion within the bassinette. One drawback to these types of beds is that the mattress is normally flat and therefore a small child may have difficulty sitting up while being fed or even put to sleep. Keeping the child in a somewhat upright position is highly effective to prevent choking or other injuries even such as crib death. As a result, it would be advantageous to have a bed or system for placement of an infant that includes an inclining portion to support the infant on an incline as opposed to a flat mattress.
- The present invention relates to an infant bed and chair that includes: a base; a back support attached to the base; and at least one vertical support attached to an underside of the back support, wherein the at least one vertical supports enable vertical elevation of the back support. The infant bed and chair may further include slit openings along an inner surface of the back support and along an inner surface of the base. Preferably, the infant bed and chair may include a cushion. In one particular embodiment, the at least one vertical support elevates the back support to about a 30-degree angle.

FIG. 3 depicts a cushion used in conjunction with the infant bed and chair in accordance with the present invention. - The present invention relates to an infant chair and bed that includes a 30 degree elevation along a back support portion to support the infant in an elevated position while in the bed. The bed further includes slits for placement of belt straps to allow support of the infant within the bed or chair through the use of a belt system. The present invention provides a infant bed and chair that is convertible to an elevated position to ensure an upright positioning of the infant while in the bed.
- In reference to
FIG. 1 , an infant bed andchair 100 is depicted. The infant bed andchair 100 includes aback support portion 32 and abase 30. A top view of bed andchair 100 is further shown showing theback support 32 withback support surface 33. Further shown inbase surface 31. Along with back support portion 32 a series of slits are provided. Belt strap slits 20 a, 20 b may be used to receive a belt to support the infant and/or a cushion within the bed/chair 100. Furtherbelt strap slit 21 is provided in thebase surface 31 of thebed 100. Further a side view is provided showing theback support portion 32 elevated with asupport 40 on one side and asecond support 42 on the opposite side of theback support portion 32. The supports 40, 42 support theback support portion 32 in an elevated position at approximately a 30-degree angle. The infant bed andchair 100 enables the infant to maintain an upright position when placed in thebed 100. -
FIG. 2 depicts a prospective view of the bed/chair 100 showing theback support portion 32 in an elevated position. Atop end 37 is shown at the top of theback support portion 32 with afoot end 35 at thebase 30. Further shown in another alternative embodiment, a toy bar 15 may be extended and attached to the bed/chair 100. As a consequence, the bed/chair 100 provides a portable and unique bed arrangement for an infant. Further, the elevatedback support 32 shows that the infant may maintain a safe position within the bed/chair 100. - Further detail of the present invention is a
cushion 50 shown inFIG. 3 . Thecushion 50 may be inserted within the bed/chair 100 to provide a cushion support for the infant within the bed/chair 100. Thecushion 50 includes ahead support 52, arm supports 51 a, 51 b along withbelt strap slits
Claims (6)
1. An infant bed and chair comprising:
a. a base;
b. a back support attached to the base; and
c. at least one vertical support attached to an underside of the back support, wherein the at least one vertical supports enable vertical elevation of the back support.
2. The infant bed and chair according to claim 1 , further including slit openings along an inner surface of the back support.
3. The infant bed and chair according to claim 1 , further including slit openings along an inner surface of the base
4. The infant bed and chair according to claim 1 , further including a cushion.
5. The infant bed and chair according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one vertical support includes a first vertical support on a first side of the back support and a second vertical support on a second side of the back support.
6. The infant bed and chair according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one vertical support elevates the back support to about a 30-degree.
