When air is drawn through the mouthpiece 120, air enters an oven structure 320 from an air intake channel 605 (FIG. 6) at an oven inlet 3 and into the space below the oven bottom plate, filters through a center hole 4 into a gap between a top oven plate 5 and bottom oven plate 6. Air then filters evenly through the series of holes in the floor of the oven top plate 7 and over the heater element 1 (or 315). As air passes over the heater element 1 (or 315), air is heated convectively prior to entering the bowl 2 (or 389).
  • FIG. 8 is a diagram that illustrates a cross-sectional view of a vaporizer 100 that shows air flow 705 inside the cartridge assembly 110 in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. Air heated by the heating element 1 (or 315 FIG. 3) enters a bowl 2 (or 389A FIG. 3) through two groups of perforations (8) in the bottom of the bowl 2 (or 389A). The unperforated section (9) of the bowl 2 (or 389A) prevents the heating element 1 (or 315) from directly burning the herbal substance in the bowl 2 (or 389A). Oils in the herbal substance (10) are vaporized both through conductive heating and through convective heating. The vaporized oils pass through the perforations of a chamber filter 11 (or 450 FIG. 4), pass under a chamber lid 12 (or 445 FIG. 4) and pass back into the main body assembly 105 (FIG. 1) through a cartridge tray assembly air outlet 13 (or 419 FIG. 4). Trapping the vapor-laden air between the chamber filter 11 (or 450) and chamber lid 12 (or 445) (both of which are removable) makes cleaning the device easy.
  • FIG. 9 is a diagram that illustrates a cross-sectional view of a main body assembly 105 that shows air flow 705 inside the main body assembly 105 in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. Vaporized oil laden air exits the cartridge assembly 110 through a cartridge tray assembly air outlet 13 (or 419 FIG. 4), flows into the exit air path 14 of the main body assembly 105 and out though the removable mouthpiece 15 (or 120 FIG. 1).
  • FIG. 10 is a block diagram illustrating an exemplary architecture for a vaporizer 100 in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The vaporizer 100 includes the main body assembly 105 that includes the following: a power source 1005 that is coupled to a power push button 125, which can switch on or off the vaporizer. Responsive to the power push button 125 being switch on, the power source 1105 powers a chip assembly of a main body assembly 105 of the vaporizer 100, which controls a heating element 315. A temperature adjuster 130 can instruct the chip assembly to increase or decrease the temperature of the heating element 315.
