Abstract
A ring assembly comprising an outer ring body and inner ring body movably mounted thereto. The outer ring body comprises outer and inner wall and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings. The inner ring body comprises outer and inner walls and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings. The outer wall of the inner ring body is movably mounted to the inner wall of the outer ring body. The inner ring body is movable between a first position and a second position relative to the inner wall of the outer ring body. When the inner ring body is in the second position a greater portion of the outer wall of the inner ring body protrudes outwardly relative to one of the rim walls of the outer ring body.
Description
- The present disclosure relates to jewelry. More particularly, but not exclusively, the present disclosure relates to rings such as finger rings. More specifically, but still exclusively, the present disclosure relates to a ring assembly with inner and outer movable ring bodies.
- A ring is a round band worn as ornamental jewelry around the finger and sometimes a toe. Rings are traditionally usually in metal but can be of almost any material. They may be set with a gem or stone of some sort, of almost any material. A ring can includes a band, which can be completely round or include a min hoop, a pair of shoulder with a bezel therebetween for setting or mounting a stone or gem thereon. The band or the hoop is usually made of a single piece of material.
- An object of the present disclosure is to provide a ring assembly.
- An object of the present disclosure is to provide a kit for a ring assembly.
- An object of the present disclosure is to provide a method of making a ring assembly.
- In accordance with an aspect of the disclosure there is provided a ring assembly comprising: an outer ring body comprising outer and inner wall and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings; and an inner ring body comprising outer and inner wall and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings, the outer wall of the inner ring body being movably mounted to the inner wall of the outer ring body, wherein the inner ring body is movable between a first position and a second position relative to the inner wall of the outer ring body, wherein when the inner ring body is in the second position a greater portion of the outer wall of the inner ring body protrudes outwardly relative to one of the rim walls of the outer ring body.
- In accordance with an aspect of the disclosure there is provided a kit for a ring assembly comprising: at least one outer ring body comprising outer and inner wall and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings; and at least one inner ring body comprising outer and inner wall and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings, the outer wall of the inner ring body being movably mountable to the inner wall of the outer ring body, wherein the inner ring body is movable between a first position and a second position relative to the inner wall of the outer ring body, wherein when the inner ring body is in the second position a greater portion of the outer wall of the inner ring body protrudes outwardly relative to one of the rim walls of the outer ring body.
- In an embodiment, the inner ring body is in the first position the rim walls thereof do not protrude outwardly relative to the rim walls of the outer ring body. In an embodiment, when the inner ring body is in the first position the rim walls thereof are flush to the rim walls of the outer ring body
- In an embodiment, the greater portion of the outer wall includes a message.
- In an embodiment, the inner wall of the outer ring body comprises at least one groove, the outer wall of the inner ring body comprising a protrusion for slidably mounted within the groove thereby providing the inner ring body to move relative to the outer ring body. In an embodiment, the outer ring body comprises a first band element and a second band element mounted within the first band element and defining the inner wall of the outer ring member and defining the at least one groove.
- In an embodiment, the outer wall of the inner ring body comprises at least one groove, the inner wall of the outer ring body comprising a protrusion for slidably mounted within the groove thereby providing the inner ring body to move relative to the outer ring body. In an embodiment, the outer ring body comprises a first band element and a second band element mounted within the first band element and defining the inner wall of the outer ring member and defining the at least one groove.
- In an embodiment, an additional ring body is further orivuded abd comprises outer and inner walls and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings, the outer wall of the additional ring body being movably mounted to the inner wall of the inner ring body.
- In accordance with an aspect of the disclosure there is provided a method of making a ring assembly comprising: providing at least one outer ring body comprising outer and inner wall and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings; providing at least one inner ring body comprising outer and inner wall and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings; and movably mounting the outer wall of the inner ring body to the inner wall of the outer ring body, wherein the inner ring body is movable between a first position and a second position relative to the inner wall of the outer ring body, wherein when the inner ring body is in the second position a greater portion of the outer wall of the inner ring body protrudes outwardly relative to one of the rim walls of the outer ring body

FIG. 10 is a perspective exploded view of the ring assembly in accordance with a further non-restrictive illustrative embodiment of the present disclosure. - Generally stated and in accordance with an embodiment, there is provided a ring assembly comprising an outer ring body and inner ring body movably mounted thereto. The outer ring body comprises outer and inner wall and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings. The inner ring body comprises outer and inner walls and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings. The outer wall of the inner ring body is movably mounted to the inner wall of the outer ring body. The inner ring body is movable between a first position and a second position relative to the inner wall of the outer ring body. When the inner ring body is in the second position a greater portion of the outer wall of the inner ring body protrudes outwardly relative to one of the rim walls of the outer ring body.
- With reference to the drawings non-restrictive embodiments of the ring assembly will now be described so as to further exemplify the ring assembly.

FIGS. 1 and 2 show aring assembly 10 including outer andinner body rings inner ring body 14 is movably mounted within the outer ring body and movable between a first or non-extended position shown inFIG. 1 and a second or extended position shown inFIG. 2 , where theinner ring 14 protrudes outwardly from theouter ring 12 for predetermined distance as will be explained herein. It should be noted that the terms “first” and “second” are used herein for indicative purposes only and as such are interchangeable. - Turning to
FIG. 1 , thering assembly 10 includes anouter wall 16, aninner wall 18 and oppositeface rim walls 20 circumscribing an opening 22 for receiving a finger for example as is known in the art. - Turning now to
FIG. 4 , therering assembly 10 is shown in a disassembled position. - The
inner ring body 14 is shown with anouter wall 24 and an opposite wall defining the inner wall of 18 of theassembly 10. Theinner ring body 14 further includes oppositeface rim walls 20′ circumscribing an opening 22. Each ofopposite rim walls 20′ of a given face of thering assembly 10 respectively define a portion of therim wall 20 of that same given face. - The
outer wall 24 of theinner ring body 14 further includes a guidingelement 26 for being guided along the outer ring during movement thereof. In this example, the guidingelement 26 is a protrusion. In this example, there are 4 such protrusions (seeFIG. 3 ). - The
outer wall 24 of theinner ring body 14, further includes aportion 28 that is exposed when thering assembly 10 is in the second or extended position shown inFIG. 2 . Thisportion 28 may include a message, a color a gem or any other additional element so desired by the user. - Wither reference to
FIG. 4 , theouter ring body 12 comprises theouter wall 16 and aninner wall 30, as well as oppositeface rim walls 20″. Each ofopposite rim walls 20″ of a given face of thering assembly 10 respectively define a portion of therim wall 20 of that same given face. - The
outer ring body 12 includes guidingelements 32 for allowing theinner ring body 14 to be guided along the outer ring during movement thereof. In this example, the guidingelements 32 are grooves. As better shown inFIG. 5 , eachgroove 32 comprises aninner section 34, (relative to the outward movement of theinner ring body 12 as shown by arrow M inFIG. 2 ) a diagonalmedian section 36 and an outer section 38. - Therefore, each
protrusion 24 which have a cylindrical shape in this example, are fitted intorespective grooves 32, which have an S-like configuration in this example. When moving thering assembly 10 from the first position to the second position, theprotrusions 26 slides along theirrespective grooves 32 from theinner section 34 to the outer section 38. Of course, there can be more than one position and movement of theinner ring body 14 can be arrested at any point along thegroove 32 thus providing a variety of extended or second positions and a variety of appropriate design and message options forportion 28. - Turning now to
FIG. 6 , theouter ring body 12 comprises amain body part 40 and anadditional body part 42 mounted to themain body part 40. Themain body part 40 defines theouter wall 16 and includes aninner wall 44 and as well as opposite face rim walls 20 a″. Each of opposite rim walls 20 a″ of a given face of thering assembly 10 respectively define a portion of therim wall 20″ of that same given face. Theadditional body part 42 includes anouter wall 46 and defines theinner wall 18 and as well as opposite face rim walls 20 b″. Each of opposite rim walls 20 a″ of a given face of thering assembly 10 respectively define a portion of therim wall 20″ of that same given face. Theouter wall 46 of theadditional body part 42 is mounted to theinner wall 44 of themain body part 40. - The
additional body part 42 includes thegrooves 32. Theadditional body part 42 can be made of a material that substantially reduces potential of damaging theouter wall 24 of theinner ring body 14. As shown inFIG. 3 , theouter wall 24 of the inner ring member is in contact with theinner wall 18 since theprotrusions 26 are fully received by thegrooves 32. Therefore, when moving theinner ring body 14 from the first position to the second position, theouter wall 24 of theinner ring body 14 slides along theinner wall 18 of theouter ring body 12. Materials such as metals usually used for rings will damage over time, therefore, theadditional body part 42 can be made of plastic, polyurethane and like materials. It would also be easily removed and replaced after being worn out. - The
grooves 32 in theadditional body part 42 may be fully open though thebody part 42 or closed such as thewall 46 covers thegroove 32 that is open inwall 18. In this way, thetip 48 of eachprotrusion 26 is guided on the backing of thegroove 32 defined bywall 18 overgroove 32. Alternatively, thegrooves 32 can be deeper than the length of each protrusion therein providing for thetip 40 to be a free end. - With reference to
FIGS. 7 and 8 , show a resilient andflexible member 50 such as spring of the like which is interposed between the outer and inner rings, 12 and 14, respectively. More specifically, the resilient andflexible members 50 are positioned betweenwalls inner ring 14 relative to theouter ring 12. - Turning to
FIG. 9 , there is shown aring assembly 100 in accordance another non-restrictive illustrative embodiment. Thering assembly 100 includes anouter ring member 102 and aninner ring body 104 shown here in the extended position protruding from theouter ring body 102. In this example, theinner ring body 104 includes ashoulder 106 formed at therim 108 of theinner ring body 104. Theshoulder 106 is adjacent aportion 110 of theouter wall 112 of theinner ring body 104 that includes a message, or any other type of marking or gem or design or colour in accordance with the user's desire. Theshoulder 106 engages the outer limit of therim 114 of theouter ring body 104. -
FIG. 10 shows aring assembly 200 in accordance another non-restrictive illustrative embodiment. Thering assembly 200 includes anouter ring member 202 and an inner ring bod. In this example, theinner ring body 204 includes ashoulder 206 formed at therim 208 of theinner ring body 204. Theshoulder 206 is adjacent aportion 210 of theouter wall 212 of theinner ring body 204. Theouter ring body 202, includes amain body part 214 and an additional body part orband body 216 which includes a furtheradditional member 218 for forming groove structure therein. Theshoulder 206 engages the rim 220 of theouter ring body 204. Thenmain body part 214 also includes a shoulder 222 (formed about rim 223) and is movable relative to thebandy body 216. Theshoulder 222 engages therim 221 of theband body 216. - It should be noted that the shapes, configurations, sizes, materials and number of ring bodies of the ring assemblies described herein can be provided in other suitable ways beyond what is illustrated here as can be contemplated by the person having skill in the art. Moreover, the guiding elements such as the grooves and protrusions can also be provided in other suitable configurations and structures in order to provide suitable movement between the ring bodies of the ring assemblies provided herein.
- The various features described herein can be combined in a variety of ways within the context of the present disclosure so as to provide still other embodiments. As such, the embodiments are not mutually exclusive.
- Moreover, the embodiments discussed herein need not include all of the features and elements illustrated and/or described and thus partial combinations of features can also be contemplated. Furthermore, embodiments with less features than those described can also be contemplated. It is to be understood that the present disclosure is not limited in its application to the details of construction and parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings and described hereinabove. The disclosure is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced in various ways. It is also to be understood that the phraseology or terminology used herein is for the purpose of description and not limitation. Hence, although the present disclosure has been provided hereinabove by way of non-restrictive illustrative embodiments thereof, it can be modified, without departing from the scope, spirit and nature thereof and of the appended claims.
Claims (19)
1. A ring assembly comprising:
an outer ring body comprising outer and inner wall and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings; and
an inner ring body comprising outer and inner wall and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings, the outer wall of the inner ring body being movably mounted to the inner wall of the outer ring body,
wherein the inner ring body is movable between a first position and a second position relative to the inner wall of the outer ring body, wherein when the inner ring body is in the second position a greater portion of the outer wall of the inner ring body protrudes outwardly relative to one of the rim walls of the outer ring body.
2. A ring assembly according to claim 1 , wherein when the inner ring body is in the first position the rim walls thereof do not protrude outwardly relative to the rim walls of the outer ring body.
3. A ring assembly according to claim 2 , wherein when the inner ring body is in the first position the rim walls thereof are flush to the rim walls of the outer ring body
4. A ring assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the greater portion of the outer wall includes a message.
5. A ring assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the inner wall of the outer ring body comprises at least one groove, the outer wall of the inner ring body comprising a protrusion for slidably mounted within the groove thereby providing the inner ring body to move relative to the outer ring body.
6. A ring assembly according to claim 5 , wherein the outer ring body comprises a first band element and a second band element mounted within the first band element and defining the inner wall of the outer ring member and defining the at least one groove.
7. A ring assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the outer wall of the inner ring body comprises at least one groove, the inner wall of the outer ring body comprising a protrusion for slidably mounted within the groove thereby providing the inner ring body to move relative to the outer ring body.
8. A ring assembly according to claim 7 , wherein the outer ring body comprises a first band element and a second band element mounted within the first band element and defining the inner wall of the outer ring member and defining the at least one groove.
9. A ring assembly according to claim 1 , further comprising an additional ring body comprising outer and inner walls and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings, the outer wall of the additional ring body being movably mounted to the inner wall of the inner ring body.
10. A kit for a ring assembly comprising:
at least one outer ring body comprising outer and inner wall and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings; and
at least one inner ring body comprising outer and inner wall and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings, the outer wall of the inner ring body being movably mountable to the inner wall of the outer ring body,
wherein the inner ring body is movable between a first position and a second position relative to the inner wall of the outer ring body, wherein when the inner ring body is in the second position a greater portion of the outer wall of the inner ring body protrudes outwardly relative to one of the rim walls of the outer ring body.
11. A kit according to claim 10 , wherein when the inner ring body is in the first position the rim walls thereof do not protrude outwardly relative to the rim walls of the outer ring body.
12. A kit according to claim 11 , wherein when the inner ring body is in the first position the rim walls thereof are flush to the rim walls of the outer ring body
13. A kit according to claim 10 , wherein the greater portion of the outer wall includes a message.
14. A kit according to claim 10 , wherein the inner wall of the outer ring body comprises at least one groove, the outer wall of the inner ring body comprising a protrusion for slidably mounted within the groove thereby providing the inner ring body to move relative to the outer ring body.
15. A kit according to claim 14 , wherein the outer ring body comprises a first band element and a second band element mounted within the first band element and defining the inner wall of the outer ring member and defining the at least one groove.
16. A kit according to claim 10 , wherein the outer wall of the inner ring body comprises at least one groove, the inner wall of the outably ring body comprising a protrusion for slidably mounted within the groove thereby providing the inner ring body to move relative to the outer ring body.
17. A kit according to claim 16 , wherein the outer ring body comprises a first band element and a second band element mounted within the first band element and defining the inner wall of the outer ring member and defining the at least one groove.
18. A kit according to claim 10 , further comprising at least one additional ring body comprising outer and inner walls and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings, the outer wall of the additional ring body being movably mountable to the inner wall of the inner ring body.
19. A method of making a ring assembly comprising:
providing at least one outer ring body comprising outer and inner wall and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings;
providing at least one inner ring body comprising outer and inner wall and opposite face rim walls circumscribing respective openings; and
movably mounting the outer wall of the inner ring body to the inner wall of the outer ring body, wherein the inner ring body is movable between a first position and a second position relative to the inner wall of the outer ring body, wherein when the inner ring body is in the second position a greater portion of the outer wall of the inner ring body protrudes outwardly relative to one of the rim walls of the outer ring body.
