Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention is generally directed to smoker's accessories and tools. More particularly the invention is directed to a tool having both a poker and also a stamping/packing tool in which both tools can be used to manipulate the position of the smoking medium to help it burn evenly. The stamping/packing tool also provides a structure that enables the user to put out the smoking medium when so desired. The apparatus of the present invention provides total control of the user's smoking experience by always having a poker on hand in time of need.
  • The known tools, at least in some cases have sharp edges that can be potentially dangerous. It is therefore seen that there exists a need in the art to overcome these deficiencies and limitations.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide apparatus that does not have sharp edges.
  • It is a still further object of the present invention to provide apparatus that may be easily, inexpensively and rapidly formed by know wire bending machines.
  • It has now been found that these and other objects of the invention may be achieved an apparatus for attachment to an associated lighter having an elongated body having an axis which includes a wire form having a first axial part that is a sleeve shaped first coil having a first axis substantially coincident with the axis of the elongated body and is dimensioned and configured for engaging the exterior of the elongated body of the associated lighter and a second part extending from said first axial part that is dimensioned and configured to extend axially with respect to the associated elongated body of the lighter; as well as a third axial part comprising a second coil of wire in which said wire in said coil has an axis and the axis of the wire in said coil is disposed in substantially a first plane.
  • In some embodiments of the apparatus the first plane is disposed in substantially perpendicular relationship to the second axial part. The sleeve shaped first coil may have a cross-section that is substantially oval. Some embodiments may further include a fourth axial part of said wire extending from said second coil and the fourth axial part may have a generally arcuate shape.
  • In other embodiments the fourth axial part has a sharpened axial extremity whereby cleaning of an associated pipe is facilitated.
  • Additional features and advantages are realized through the techniques of the present invention. Other embodiments and aspects of the invention are described in detail herein and are considered a part of the claimed invention.
  • The recitation herein of desirable objects which are met by various embodiments of the present invention is not meant to imply or suggest that any or all of these objects are present as essential features, either individually or collectively, in the most general embodiment of the present invention or in any of its more specific embodiments.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • The subject matter which is regarded as the invention is particularly pointed out and distinctly claimed in the concluding portion of the specification. The invention, however, both as to organization and method of practice, together with the further objects and advantages thereof, may best be understood by reference to the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which:
  • FIG. 1 is a side elevation view of one form of the pool in accordance with the present invention carried on the body of the associated lighter in illustrating the tool in a position which is extended beyond the body of the lighter
  • FIG. 2 is a side view showing the lighter and tool illustrated in FIG. 1 disposed proximate to an associated pipe,
  • FIG. 3 is another view similar to that FIG. 12 in which a scribing member extends into the bowl of the associated pipe,
  • FIG. 4 is a side elevation view of the tool without the lighter,
  • FIG. 5 is an isometric view of the lighter and tool illustrating the tool fully nested against the lighter illustrating the manner in which the tool is stored when not being used to clean a pipe or champ tobacco within the bike
  • FIG. 6 is a fragmentary view illustrating a coil of wire that is part of the tool disposed in a budding relationship to the bottom of the associated lighter.
  • FIG. 7 is a view illustrating the relative positions of the tool and the lighter when tool is further extended with the lighter then in a position illustrated in FIG. 2
  • FIG. 8 is a bottom view of the tool
  • FIG. 9 is a top view of the tool
  • FIGS. 10 and 11 are respective alternate side views of one form of the tool in accordance with the present invention.
  • DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • The tool in accordance with the present invention is particularly adapted for cooperation with the very commonly available butane lighters having an elongated case having an oval cross-section. Representations of such lighters are identified by the reference letter A herein. The illustrated preferred embodiment of the present invention is formed from a single piece of wire having four discrete axial sections. The overall tool is identified by the reference numeral 10 and the first axial section 12 is a first coil that is dimensioned and configured for sliding engagement with the exterior surface of the lighter A. It will be understood that the body of the lighter A is elongated and has a geometric axis similarly in a preferred embodiment the first axial section 12 has a geometric axis that is coincident with the geometric axis of the lighter body A.
  • In some embodiments the first axial section 12 includes a U-shaped axial section 12 a proximate to the second axial section 14. The U-shaped axial section 12 a provides greater rigidity of the tool 10 when it is actually translated to the position shown in FIGS. 1 and three.
  • The second axial section 14 of the tool 10 extends away from the first axial section 12 which is parallel to the geometric axis of the first axial section 12 as well as the geometric axis of the lighter body A.
  • A third axial part of the tool 10 is formed in a tight coil 16 as seen in FIG. 7 the respective adjacent turns of that coil substantially abut and the geometric center line of each turn our substantially coplanar as well as in a plane that is substantially perpendicular to the second axial section 14 as well as the geometric axis of the lighter body A.
  • A fourth axial part of the tool 10 has a generally arcuate shape 18 with a pointed tip 18 a for cleaning the bowl of an associated pipe B. It will be seen that the preferred embodiment avoids the danger of elongated sharp edges. The is a pointed axial extremity that seats against the body of the lighter in a safe manner.
  • While the invention has been described in detail herein in accordance with certain preferred embodiments thereof, many modifications and changes therein may be effected by those skilled in the art. Accordingly, it is intended by the appended claims to cover all such modifications and changes as fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
