  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • It is an object of the present invention to provide a lace undergarment with a lace waistband of varying width and a crotch element and a method of making the same.
  • An undergarment in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure includes a waistband and a crotch element connected to the waistband. The waistband includes a pair of waistband elements connected together, each waistband element including a first end with a first width and a second end, positioned opposite the first end, the second end having a second width, larger than the first width. The first ends of each of the waistband elements joined together to form a front of the waistband and the second ends of each of the waistband elements joined together to form a rear of the waistband. The crotch element includes a first end connected to the front of the waistband and a second end connected to the rear of the waistband.
  • A method of making a lace undergarment that includes a waistband including two waistband elements joined together and a crotch element joined to the waistband, in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure includes sewing first ends of each of the waistband elements together in a first seam to form a front of the waistband, the first ends of the waistband elements having a first width, sewing second ends of each of the waistband elements together in a second seam to form a rear of the waistband, the second ends of the waistband elements having a second width, larger than the first width, sewing a first end of the crotch element to the front of the waistband in a third seam, sewing a second end of the crotch element to the rear of the waistband in a fourth seam, sewing a left crotch seam on the crotch element as a fifth seam and sewing a right crotch seam on the crotch element as a sixth seam.
  • Other features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following description of the invention which refers to the accompanying drawings.

  • FIG. 1D illustrates a connection between the crotch component and the waistband of the undergarment illustrated in FIGS. 1A-1B.
  • FIG. 1E illustrates a rear seam of the undergarment illustrated in FIGS. 1A-1B.
  • FIG. 2 illustrates an exemplary embodiment of a waistband of the undergarment illustrated in FIGS. 1A-1B.
  • FIG. 3 illustrates an exemplary embodiment of a waistband of the undergarment illustrated in FIGS. 1A-1B.
  • FIG. 4 illustrates an exemplary embodiment of a waistband of the undergarment illustrated in FIGS. 1A-1B.
  • FIG. 5 illustrates an exemplary embodiment of a waistband of the undergarment illustrated in FIGS. 1A-1B
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENTS
  • FIG. 1A illustrates a front view of a lace undergarment 10 in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. FIG. 1B illustrates a rear view of the undergarment 10. The undergarment 10 preferably includes a waistband 11 and a crotch element 14 connected thereto. The waistband 11 is of a general loop shape and is configured for being worn around the waist of a user. The crotch element 14 is connected to a rear of the waistband 11 on one end thereof and a front of the waistband on an opposite end thereof, such that it covers the crotch of a user wearing the undergarment 10. The waistband 11 preferably includes two waistband components 12, connected together. Each waistband component 12 includes a first end 12 a having a first width, a middle portion 12 b having a second width, less than the first width and a second end 12 c, opposite the first end and having a third width, larger that first width and second width. FIG. 2 illustrates a more detailed view of an exemplary waistband component 12. FIG. 2 further indicates a preferred length of the waistband component 12 and preferred values for the first width, second width and third width. These values are suitable for providing an undergarment 10 in an extra-small size and are exemplary only. These values may vary by plus or minus 5% or so.
  • FIG. 3 illustrates another embodiment of a waistband component 12 suitable for used in a small size undergarment 10. The waistband component 12 of FIG. 3 includes exemplary values for the length of the component 12 and the first, second and third widths which may vary by plus or minus 5%.
  • FIG. 4 illustrates another embodiment of a waistband component 12 suitable for used in a medium size undergarment 10. The waistband component 12 of FIG. 3 includes exemplary values for the length of the component 12 and the first, second and third widths which may vary by plus or minus 5%.
  • FIG. 5 illustrates another embodiment of a waistband component 12 suitable for used in a large size undergarment 10. The waistband component 12 of FIG. 3 includes exemplary values for the length of the component 12 and the first, second and third widths which may vary by plus or minus 5%.
  • As can be seen in FIG. 1A, the first ends 12 a of each of the two waistband elements 12, are joined together to substantially form a front of the undergarment 10. The two second ends 12 c are joined together to substantially form the rear of the undergarment 10. The respective middle waistband components 12 b form the left and right sides of the undergarment 10. In a preferred embodiment, as shown in FIG. 1C, a first seam 100 joins the first ends 12 a of the waistband components and is sewn first. A second seam 102 joins the second ends 12 b of the two waistband components 12 and is sewn second. A front crotch seam 104 joins the crotch element 14 to the front of the waistband 11 and is sewn third. A rear crotch seam 106 joins the crotch element 14 to the rear of the waistband 11 and is sewn fourth. Left and right side seams 108, 110 are used to finish the crotch section 14 and are sewn fifth and sixth. Thus, the undergarment 10 is sewn in six steps.
  • The use of the two waistband elements 12 and joining them together allows for these elements to be cut from a continuous band of material with a repeating pattern. This simplifies productions and sewing.
  • The resulting undergarment 10, provides for a comfortable fit while at the same time being easy to construct and simple to sew. The waistband 11 is made of a lace material, however, is not limited to any particular lace pattern. The waistband 11 may have a scalloped edge as illustrated, but is not limited to this particular embodiment.
  • Although the present invention has been described in relation to particular embodiments thereof, many other variations and modifications and other uses will become apparent to those skilled in the art.
