IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 201,471, dated March 19,1878; application filed November 1, 1877.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CLIN ON A. WEED, of Racine, in the county of Racine, in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification The object of my invention is to improve a plow; and it consists in making the beam of metal, and crooking the same so that the rear end shall point forward and pass into a mortise in the lower end of the post to which the handles are attached. The upper part of the beam passes through said handle-post and is secured by a pin. The depth to which the rear end of the beam shall enter the mortise is regulated by a pin through the beam outside of the mortise, there being holes in the end of the beam for the pin to enter. The lower end of the handlepost is bent forward, and passes into a dovetailed frog and is secured by a pin."

In the drawing, A is the land-side of the plow;v B, the point of the same; C, the colter; D, the beam; E, the handle-post, and F the foot of the handle-post, passing into the dovetailed frog in the bottom of the plow. G is a bolt which secures the foot of the handle-post to the plow. H is a cover over the center of the plow, to keep dirt from falling into the same. I is a bridge across under the cover H in the back end of the plow. K is a brace between the lower end of post E and bridge I, to stiffen the post. L represents the holes in the lower end of beam D, in which to insert pin M for the purpose of adjusting the plow-beam. N is a pin through postE and beam D. O O are the handles to the plow,

2. The combination of the adjustable beam D, slotted handle-post E, provided with cover H, and dovetailed frog P, all constructed substantially as described.
