Abstract
Described is a single or multilayer mattress or pillow cover fabric (1, 10) with at least one knitted or woven layer made of a polyester yarn, with the knitted or woven layer being knitted or woven entirely from an antimony-free polyester yarn. Further described is a mattress or pillow cover and a protective mattress or pillow pad.
Description
- The present invention relates to a mattress or pillow cover fabric according to the preamble of claim 1 as well as to a mattress or pillow cover and to a mattress of pillow pad.
- The use of yarns of polyester (PES) in the production of mattress or pillow cover fabrics is known in the art and has proven effective due to their positive properties like high tear strength and abrasion resistance.
- As these mattress and pillow cover fabrics, when used, come into contact with the human skin over extended time periods, there is always the object to use yarns for the production of mattress or pillow cover fabrics that are as skin-friendly or generally health-friendly as possible. Therefore, it is important that the used yarns, in addition to good climatic properties such as moisture absorption and moisture release, do not contain any ingredients that are hazardous to health.
- This object is attained by a refinement of the afore-mentioned mattress or pillow cover fabrics having the features of claim 1 as well as by a mattress or pillow cover having the features of
claim 13 as well as by a protective mattress or pillow pad having the features of claim 15. - The single-layer or multilayer mattress or pillow cover fabric has at least one knitted or woven fabric layer made of polyester yarn and is characterized in that the knitted or woven fabric layer is knitted or woven by a polyester yarn which is 100% antimony-free. Antimony, in particular antimony oxides are used in the production of polyester as stabilizer or catalyst and their use is currently controversial for health reasons. The polyester yarns used in the mattress or pillow cover fabric according to the invention use instead of antimony silicon oxides which pose no health risks. Accordingly, the invention relates also to the use of the antimony-free polyester yarn for the production of a mattress or pillow cover fabric.
- Advantageous embodiments are set forth in the sub-claims.
- According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, all polyester yarns contained in the mattress or pillow cover fabric are made of the antimony-free polyester yarn. The mattress or pillow cover fabric is hereby realized in particular as three-layer composite with a topside, a backside as arranged filler material, with the topside and/or backside and/or the filler material made of the antimony-free polyester yarn. The topside and backside, both knitted or woven with the antimony-free polyester yarn or also the filler material produced from such a polyester yarn maintain their typical positive properties such as washability at a washing temperature of 60° or even 90°, elasticity and the like.
- The production of such mattress or pillow cover fabrics, in which the topside which in particular faces the body, that is the human skin, is knitted or woven from such an antimony-free polyester yarn. To date, this has not been possible because yarns could not have been made available with the desired properties softness and the accompanying pleasant touch for the human skin and with a sufficient moisture absorption for dissipating moisture from the human body during the sleep phase. An antimony-free polyester yarn exhibiting these desired properties has been developed for this purpose in coordination with a yarn manufacturer. The hereby developed polyester yarns are characterized by a great yarn count and high moisture absorption capability.
- Multifilament fibers especially made of antimony-free polyester yarn are used for the topside because they are made of fibers comprised of many individual filaments and use the capillary effect to draw moisture from the surface of the topside and carry it to the backside.
- The filler material can be made of polyester yarns with great yarn count so as to enable to provide mattress or pillow cover fabrics in three layers as composite, with all the layers, i.e. topside, backside and filler material being produced to 100% of such an antimony-free polyester yarn.
- It is also conceivable to make the mattress cover fabric formed as composite in such a way that the topside is made of Tencel, lyocell, rayon, cotton or other cellulose fibers and the backside and the filling are made of the antimony-free polyester yarn.
- It is also conceivable to make the topside and the backside from the antimony-free polyester yarn and to produce only the filling of cotton or other cellulose fibers.
- According to a further embodiment, the mattress or pillow cover fabric according to the invention is formed as knitted spacer structure or woven spacer structure which is also configured with a topside, a backside, and a filler material serving as spacer thread and arranged between topside and backside, with the topside and/or backside and/or filler material being made of the antimony-free polyester yarn.
- Also conceivable are for example two-layer mattress or pillow cover fabric, for example in the form of a double jersey in which at least one of the layers is knitted or woven from the antimony-free polyester yarn. Also conceivable are coated qualities, for example a knitted spacer structure or woven spacer structure combined with a composite, in which at least one of the layers is knitted or woven from the antimony-free polyester yarn.
- The mattress or pillow cover is produced in accordance with the invention from one or more of the afore-described mattress or pillow cover fabrics.
- According to a further embodiment, provision is made for a protective mattress or pillow pad which can be slipped onto a topside of a mattress or pillow and which has a mattress or pillow cover fabric with the afore-described properties and which can be affixed preferably by several combination fasteners or hook and loop fasteners to the mattress or the pillow.
- A preferred exemplary embodiment of the invention will now be described in greater detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
- It is shown in:
-
FIG. 1 a cross section of one embodiment of a mattress or pillow cover fabric in accordance with the invention formed as composite; -
FIG. 2 a cross section of one embodiment of a mattress or pillow cover fabric in accordance with the invention formed as spacer structure. - In the following figure description, terms such as top, bottom, left, right, forward, rearward, etc relate exclusively to the exemplified illustration, selected in the respective figures, and position of the mattress or pillow cover fabric, composite, spacer structure, yarns and other parts. These terms are not to be understood as limiting, i.e. these references may change as a result of different work positions or the mirror-image symmetrical configuration or the like.
