    CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
  • This application is closely related to and claims benefit from U.S. Provisional Application Ser. No. 61/140,105 filed Dec. 23, 2008.
  • FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates, in general, to a pillow cover, and, more particularly, the present invention relates to a pillow cover that is designed to easily slide on and off of a contour pillow.
  • STATEMENT REGARDING FEDERALLY SPONSORED RESEARCH OR DEVELOPMENT
  • N/A
  • BACKGROUND
  • Contour pillows are hugely popular and touted for their extreme comfort. However, standard sized pillowcases do not fit the unique shape of the contour pillow. The seams of such pillowcases fall in the wrong places when a contour pillow is placed therein. Furthermore such pillowcases become excessively bunched and twisted when placed on such contour pillows thereby rendering such pillows uncomfortable. The standard pillowcases can be extremely difficult to put on a contour pillow due to such pillowcases having incorrect dimensions. Changing standard pillowcases on contour pillows is a frustrating struggle.
  • Thus, it would be advantageous if there were pillow cases that were made to fit snugly on contour pillows.
  • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In a first aspect the present invention provides a fitted pillow case for receiving a contour pillow. The pillow case comprises a cover member having a first end and a second end and being manufactured from a first predetermined material and having a first predetermined size and a first predetermined shape. There is an opening disposed in such cover member closely adjacent the first end for receiving the contour pillow. There is a substantially rectangular member engageable with such second end of such cover member thereby forming a housing for receiving and storing such contour pillow therein.
  • OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
  • It is, therefore, one of the primary objects of the present invention to provide a pillow case that is designed to hold a contour pillow.
  • Another object of the present invention is to provide a pillowcase that has a rectangular member disposed on the end of the pillow case opposite the opening.
  • Still another object of the present invention is to provide a pillow case wherein such rectangular member has two substantially parallel seams.
  • In addition to the various objects and advantages of the invention which have been described in some specific detail above it should be noted that various other objects and advantages of the present invention will become more readily apparent to those persons who are skilled in the relevant art from the following more detailed description, particularly when such description is taken in conjunction with the appended claims.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is a partial perspective view of a fitted pillow case for receiving a contour pillow, showing a rectangular second end.
  • FIG. 2 is a partial perspective view of a prior art contour pillow.
  • FIG. 3 is a partial perspective view of the pillow case according to an embodiment of the invention wherein a contour pillow has been placed within the cover member.
  • FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a prior art pillow case.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
  • Prior to proceeding with the more detailed description of the present invention it should be noted that, for the sake of clarity, identical components which have identical functions have been designated by identical reference numerals throughout the several views illustrated in the drawings.
  • In a first aspect the present invention provides a fitted pillow case, generally designated 10, for receiving a contour pillow 12. The pillow case 10 comprises a cover member 14 having a first end 16 and a second end 18 and being manufactured from a first predetermined material and having a first predetermined size and a first predetermined shape. There is an opening disposed in such cover member 14 closely adjacent a first end 16 for receiving the contour pillow 12. There is a substantially rectangular member 22 engageable with the second end 18 of the cover member 14 thereby forming a housing for receiving and containing such contour pillow 12 therein.
  • Such substantially rectangular member 22 includes two substantially parallel seams 17, 19 horizontally disposed for respective engagement with said cover member 14 and two substantially parallel seams 21, 23 vertically disposed for engagement with the cover member 14 thereby creating the a substantially rectangular member 22 and thus forming a substantially rectangular second end 18 of such cover member. Thus, such pillow case 10 has sufficient depth to house a contour pillow with ease.
  • In an alternate embodiment of the invention such cover member 14 further includes a flap member 32 disposed closely adjacent the first end 16 for covering the opening.
  • According to one embodiment of the invention such cover member 14 includes such rectangular member 22 that has a substantially rectangular shape and at least a second portion 24. Such rectangular member 22 is connected at each edge 17, 19, 21, 23 thereof to such second portion 24 to form a housing within which such contour pillow 12 may be stored.
  • It should be noted that although end member 22 is described as a separate entity it is essentially part of cover member 14 and not a separate piece but is created by having two seams perpendicular to the bottom seam. A regular pillow case on the other hand has one side seam and side fold. As stated previously the “rectangular” shape of end member 22 of the present invention is created by having the two seams perpendicular to the bottom seam.
  • Such fitted pillow case 10 is tailored to fit the distinctive shape of a predetermined contour pillow 12. Such cover member 14 is manufactured from such first predetermined material. It is presently preferred that such first predetermined material is selected from at least one of cotton, silk, rayon and a combination thereof. By having a substantially rectangular member 22 on the second end 18 the shape of the cover member 14 is three dimensional as opposed to a standard typically flat prior art pillow case. As mentioned the present invention provides two substantially horizontally disposed parallel seams and two substantially parallel vertically disposed parallel seams so as to form a substantially rectangular second end which gives the cover member 14 added thickness for receiving such contour pillow 12. Such rectangular member 22 forming the second end 18 of the cover member 14 is formed of a second predetermined material. It is presently preferred that such second predetermined material and such first predetermined material are substantially identical.
  • It should be noted that standard pillow cases have just one seam at the second end thereof rendering them inadequate to hold a contour pillow. The present invention provides a rectangular second end of the pillow case having two substantially parallel seams horizontally disposed and two substantially parallel seams vertically disposed creates a substantially rectangular end portion for snugly abutting an end of the predetermined contour pillow, which generally has a rectangular shape.
  • The predetermined size of the pillow case is dependent upon the size of the contour pillow as to whether the contour pillow is of a standard, queen or king size. Such predetermined size of the pillow case is designed so as to be able to contain such contour pillow. That is, if the contour pillow is a king size pillow then the predetermined size of the pillow case will be large enough to contain such pillow.
  • While a presently preferred embodiment and alternate embodiments of the present invention have been described in detail above, it should be understood that various other adaptations and/or modifications of the invention can be made by those persons who are particularly skilled in the art without departing from either the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
