Description

    REFERENCE TO PENDING APPLICATIONS
  • This application does not claim the benefit of any pending patent application.
  • REFERENCE TO MICROFICHE APPENDIX
  • This application is not referenced in any microfiche appendix.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention is generally directed toward a clothes hanger, having the capability of displaying works of art, advertisement and other indicia. More specifically, the present invention is directed toward a clothes hanger having a panel located within its interior that supports works of art, advertisement and other indicia.
  • Clothes hangers have been in existence for many years. The traditional prior art clothes hanger includes a hook having two arms extending away and slightly downward from the bottom of the hook. A crosspiece is connected to the distal ends of the two arms forming a mostly triangular shape.
  • There have been modifications to the traditional prior art clothes hanger. These include modifications to either the hook portion, the arms, or the cross piece in order to better secure clothes thereto to prevent wrinkles or theft of the hanger. Prior art hangers also have been constructed from wire, paper wood, and plastics.
  • A few prior art hangers are directed toward including an advertisement therewith. The most typical is a wire clothes hanger obtained from a cleaning establishment, such as from a dry cleaners. These hangers have a limited ability for advertisements as they are routine covered in paper having an advertisement for the particular cleaning establishment. Accordingly, there is a need for an improved clothes hanger.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention is generally directed toward a clothes hanger having capability to display advertisements, works of art, and other indicia.
  • One aspect of the present invention discloses a unitary clothes hanger having a hook, two arms extending in opposite directions from the bottom of the hook in an outwardly and downwardly direction. A crosspiece is connected to the distal ends of the arm creating an approximate triangular interior space. A panel is located within the interior space and is connected to both arms and the crosspiece. The panel is capable of receiving and displaying works of art, advertisements and other indicia. These works of art can include two dimensional, as well as three dimensional works of art, such as lenticular holographic art.
  • As the term indicia used herein refers to any advertisements, artwork, whether two dimensional or three dimensional, including three dimensional lenticular holographic art or any other form of visual communication.
  • Another aspect of the present invention discloses an insert for placement within an existing clothes hanger for the display of indicia. The insert is located within the interior space of the clothes hanger and is in communication with both upper extending arms as well as the crosspiece.
  • One aspect of the insert includes the panel having a top edge, two slanted side edges extending away from the top edge, a bottom edge and two side edges extending between the bottom edge and the two slanted side edges. The two slanted side edges are in communication with the two upper arms. The bottom edge is in communication with the crosspiece.
  • Another aspect of the insert includes the panel described above with the two slanted side edges and the bottom edge having grooves therein dimensioned to fit and engage the arms and crosspiece of the hanger. The insert can be removable or can be permanently affixed to the hanger.
  • Upon reading the included description, various alternative embodiments will become obvious to those skilled in the art. These embodiments are to be considered within the scope and spirit of the subject invention, which is only limited by the claims which follow and their equivalents.

  • DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • The following detailed description shows the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention and the best mode for practicing the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims. The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced or carried out in a variety of ways. It is to be understood that the phraseology and terminology employed herein are for the purpose of description and not of limitation.
  • FIGS. 1-8 illustrates an embodiment 100 of the present invention. Embodiment 100discloses an insert to be used with existing clothes hanger. Insert 100 comprises an insert body 102, having a top edge 104, two opposing arm edges 106 extending downward and away from the top edge 104. The angle in which the arm edges 106 extend downward matches the same angle of descent that arm 122 extends downward from hook 120 are substantially the same thereof. The side edge 108 extends from each of the arm edges 106 and secures a bottom edge 110. Bottom edge 110 is substantially horizontal. Insert body 102 is capable of receiving indicia 134, such as two dimensional or three dimensional artwork or various advertisements. Additionally, insert body 102 may include a grooved border to identify the location of where indicia 134 is to be located thereon.
  • Embodiment 100 removably engages an existing hanger having a hook 120, two opposing arms 122 extending from the bottom 124 of hook 120 and a crosspiece 126 extending between the distal ends 128 of hanger 120. As shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, bottom edge 110 engages crosspiece 128 while side arms edges 104 engage arms 122 of hanger 120. In this embodiment both arms edges 104 and bottom edge 110 include a groove 130, 132 respectively, to receive each arm 122 and crosspiece 128 respectively.
  • FIG. 9 illustrates a second embodiment 10 of the present invention. Embodiment 10 discloses a unitary clothes hanger having the capability of displaying indicia, such as advertisements and artwork. The artwork can include two dimensional and three dimensional items such as three dimensional linticular holographic artwork.
  • Embodiment 10 comprises a hook 12 having a hook portion 14 and a bottom 16 connected to opposing arms 18 extending away and downward from bottom 16 of hook 12. Crosspiece 20 is secured between the distil ends 22 of the arms 18 creating an interior space 24. As with most traditional hangers, the exterior geometrical shape of embodiment 10 is substantially triangular. Likewise, interior space 24 is likewise substantially triangular.
  • Insert 30 is located within interior space 24. More specifically, the top edge 32 of insert 30 extends and is in communication with both arms 18. The side edges 34 of insert 30 extend from their respective arm 18 to the crosspiece 20, and the bottom edge 36 of insert 30 extends and is in communication with crosspiece 20. The edges 32, 34, 36 of insert 30 define the insert body 38. Insert body 38 is capable of having indicia 40, such as advertisements and artwork, secured thereto. Further, insert body 38 may include a grooved border, not shown, to identify the location of where indicia 40 is to be located thereon.
  • Embodiment 10 may be constructed from any suitable material. It has been found, however, due to the unitary nature of this embodiment, plastic and other similar material is best suited for the construction of this embodiment.
  • While embodiments of the present invention have been illustrated and described, such disclosures should not be regarded as any limitation of the scope of our invention. The true scope of our invention is defined in the appended claims. Therefore, it is intended that the appended claims shall be construed to include both the preferred embodiment and all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
