Description

I I I aw" ll!!! M!!! I N V E N T 0 R J. OONNER. Gar-Axle Box-Lid.
No. 200,854. Patented March 5,1878.
WITNESSES.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH CONNER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CAR-AXLE-BOX LIDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,854, dated March 5, 1878; application filed August 20, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH CONNER, of the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sliding Oar-Box Lids, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a full front View, and Fig. 2 a partial back View, showing the lugs for holding the lid, as hereinafter more fully explained.
My invention relates to that class known as attachment car-box lids, and I call it an attachment sliding lid for car-boxes, as it differs from ordinary attachment-lids in the opening and closing, by means of a sliding lid, instead of turning on hinges, as do other attachmentlids known to me.
Referring to the drawings, A is a sliding.
lid, having two lugs, O G, and finger-lift D,
and also two stop-lugs, c 0, corresponding with and has two stop-lugs, e e, which prevent the lid from being drawn all the Way out, as shown in Fig. 2, where the lid is drawn out to its full extent, but is stopped at this point by the lugs. By this means it will be impossible for the lid to come out or get lost without loosening the screws F F, to do which the lid must first be raised so that the lugs O 0 will clear the head of the screws F F.
I do not confine my invention to the exact configuration as shown, for the frame B may be made in two pieces, or without the lower side of the frame t t and the lugs G 0 may bear against only one side of the screws F, as at H H, Fig. 1 or two sides or three sides, as shown in the drawings.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a caraxle box, the combination of the slide A, frame B, lugs G O, and stop-lugs e and e constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose described.
JOSEPH CON NER.
