Abstract
With reference to drawing FIG. 1-3 the pool filter is a filter media sheet or form that is place on or around an existing water filter and whose purpose is to filter large particles before they plug the pores of the primary filter FIG. 1 . It is place over the primary pool filter cartridge and secure in place FIG. 2 . The combination filters are inserted into the pool filter house and the sealing gasket installed over the entire combined filters FIG. 3 . Particles trapped in the filter net may be collected and discarded. The filter net may be secured to the primary pool filet as shown in FIG. 2 with at least one elastic band, clamp or string. The filter net is preferably made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene or nylon or alternatively made from flexible perforated sheet metal or model plastic.

- 1. Field of the Invention
- This invention relates generally to a pool filter, and more particularly, to an auxiliary net filter that fits over an existing pool filter for providing a pre-filter that collects larger debris.
- 2. Description of the Background Art
- Conventional pool filters comprise a cylindrical filter that collects small pool debris. Large debris, such as leaves and twigs, often builds up on the filter compromising its effectiveness and, or limiting its useful life. A properly designed auxiliary filter could provide an initial level of protection to prevent build of larger debris on the pool filter. However, there are no known auxiliary pool filters that could effectively address this problem. Accordingly, there exist a need for such an auxiliary filter. The instant invention addresses this unfulfilled need in the prior art by providing an auxiliary pool filter as contemplated by the instant invention disclosed herein.
-
FIG. 1 is an exploded perspective view of the preferred embodiment of the auxiliary pool filter in accordance with the instant invention. -
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the preferred embodiment of the auxiliary pool filter in accordance with the instant invention. -
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the preferred embodiment of the auxiliary pool filter in a filter housing in accordance with the instant invention. - With reference to the drawings,
FIGS. 1-3 depict the preferred embodiment of the instant invention which is generally referenced as an auxiliary filter, auxiliary pool filter and, or by numeric character 10. The auxiliary pool filter 10 provides a filter sheet or form that is placed on or around an existing primary filter to filter large particles before they plug the pores of the primary filter. By providing a pre-filter layer, the auxiliary pool filter 12 may increase the useful life of the primary pool filter and minimize the number of larger particles that reach the primary filter. - With reference to
FIGS. 1-3 , the auxiliary pool filter 10 comprises a filter net 12 forming a sheet or sleeve 14, interior volume 16, open top end 18 and open or closed bottom end 20. The instant invention 10 may also include aprimary pool filter 1. The filter net 12 comprises pore sizes that are larger than the pores in the primary filter 11. The filter net 12 is sized and adapted for placement over or around the primary filter 11 to trap larger particles than would normally be trapped before they reach the primary pool filter 11. Particles trapped by the auxiliary filter 10 may be collected and discarded without having to remove the primary filter 11. The filter net 12 may be secured to the primary pool filter 11 with at least one elastic band, clamp or string. The auxiliary filter 10 may include a fitted gasket for securing the filter net 12 to thefilter housing 1. - The auxiliary pool filter 10 may comprise a net 12 forming a sheet of filter material, cylinder having an open top end 18 and open bottom end 20 or bag. The auxiliary pool filter 10 is preferably made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene or nylon or alternatively made from flexible perforated sheet metal or molded plastic. The filter 10 may be painted, colored or stenciled to display a logo, emblem or other graphic indicia.
- To use the instant invention 10, the primary filter 11 is removed from the
housing 1 or left inside thehousing 1. The auxiliary pool filter 10 is placed over the primary filter 11 and secured in place. Thepool filter housing 1 is secured over the auxiliary pool filter 10 and primary filter 11 and sealed in place. The pool filter is operated in the conventional manner. When the pump is on, the auxiliary pool filter 10 will collect debris too large to pass through the net 12. The auxiliary pool filter 10 is preferably removable from the primary filter 11 for cleaning. The auxiliary pool filter 10 may alternatively be removed by removing the primary filter 11 from thehousing 1. Once cleaned, the auxiliary pool filter 11 is reinstalled over the primary filter 11 and thehousing 1 reattached. - The instant invention has been shown and described herein in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiment. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made therefrom within the scope of the invention and that obvious structural and/or functional modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
