Abstract

The present invention provides a tool being used to crimp a ring onto a pipe joint, which includes two half-die members having each bore openings and a recess formed at their rear end portion for receiving a body member to be connected therewith by dowell pins, and further at their front end portion is formed a recess for receiving a threaded rod coupled to a clamp bolt. The threaded rod is engaged therein a threaded bore formed thereon a bushing passing through two bores located thereof each side of the lower half-die member.
The clamp bolt is blocked therein the bushing by a spring pin to be engaged therethrough a hole formed therewith and through a hole formed therein the threaded rod.
Further, the both half-die members are disposed in alignment with the bore openings for receiving the ring that is crimped onto the pipe joint by the use of a handle having at each end portion a notch to prevent the handle to be pulled out of the clamp bolt.

  • 12. US D 341,303 issued in 1993 to Davis.
  • It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a tool which can be hand held and used to crimp a ring onto a pipe joint.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • According to the present invention, there is described a tool being used to crimp a ring onto a pipe joint, which includes two half-die members having each bore openings and a recess formed at their rear end portion for receiving a body member to be connected therewith by dowel pins, and further at their front end portion is formed a recess for receiving a threaded rod coupled to a clamp bolt. The threaded rod is engaged therein a threaded bore formed thereon a bushing which passes through two bores located thereof each side of the lower half-die member.
  • The clamp bolt is blocked therein the bushing by a spring pin to be engaged therethrough a hole formed therewith and through a hole formed therein the threaded rod.
  • Further, the both half-die members are disposed in alignment with the bore openings for receiving the ring that is crimped onto the pipe joint by the use of a handle having at each end portion a notch to prevent the handle to be pulled out of the clamp bolt.
  • And further, the clamp bolt includes at its upper end portion an exagonal-head to be used with a key or ratchet if needed.
  • And finally, a washer is mounted to the clamp bolt for protecting the top face of the upper half-die member.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWING(S)
  • The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
  • FIG. 1 is a plan view illustrating the improved crimping tool;
  • FIG. 2 is a side view illustrating the crimping tool in the open position; and
  • FIG. 3 is an exploded view showing the components in position for assembly.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • Now referring to the accompanying drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 to 3, there is shown a tool being used to crimp a ring onto a pipe joint, which includes two half-die members (1)(2) having each bore openings (8) and a recess (7) formed at their rear end portion for receiving a body member (3) to be connected therewith by dowell pins (4) therein holes (6), and further at their front end portion is formed a recess (12)(13) for receiving a threaded rod (17) coupled to a clamp bolt (19). The threaded bolt (17) is engaged therein a threaded bore (10) formed thereon a bushing (9) passing through two bores (11) formed thereof each side of the lower half-die member (2). The clamp bolt (19) is blocked therein the bushing (9) by a spring pin (15) to be engaged therethrough a hole (14) formed therewith and through a hole (16) formed therein the threaded rod (17).
  • Further, the both half-die members (1)(2) are disposed in alignment with the bore openings (8) for receiving the ring that is crimped onto the pipe joint by the use of a handle (22) having at each end portion a notch (23) to prevent the handle passing through holes (21) of the clamp bolt (19) to be pulled out.
  • And further, the clamp bolt (19) includes at its upper end portion an hexagonal-head (20) to be used with a key or ratchet if needed.
  • And finally, a washer (18) is mounted to the clamp bolt (19) for protecting the top face of the upper half-die member (1).
  • Accordingly, while the preferred embodiments of the invention have been described above, it will be recognized and understood that various modifications may be made in the invention and the appended claims are intended to cover all such modifications which may fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
