10 Claim.
This invention relates to closures and more specifically to tight-seal closures.
In general, it is an object of the invention to provide a device of the character described, which 6 will efliciently perform the purpose for which it is intended, which is simple and economical of construction, which can be expeditiously and conveniently manipulated, and which is readily manufactured and assembled.
Another object of the invention is to provide a container, which may be opened to expose the entire face thereof, although there may be folding flaps along that face.
Another object is to provide a container having folding flaps which will be torn aside by the raising of the cover.
Another object is to provide a container with a double .cover, one part of which will be torn away from the adjacent part of the container and which will ride upon the other part of the cover when the latter is raised.
Another object is to provide a container having a cover which is tight-sealed to certainfolding flaps, but which may, be easily broken away therefrom when the cover is raised.
4 Other objects of the invention will in part be obvious and will in partappear hereinafter.
The invention accordingly comprises an article of manufacture possessing the features, properties and the relation of elements which will be exemplified in the article hereinafter described and the scope of .the application of which will be indicated in the claims.
For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of the invention reference should be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a view in perspective of a device embodying one form of the invention, the cover being shown before sealing;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device shown in Fig. 1, certain parts of the cover having been sealed;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device shown in Fig. 1, the sealed cover being shown as broken open;
Fig. 4 is a'perspective view of the device shown in Fig. 1 sealed and enclosed in a wrapper; and
Figs. 5, 6 and 7 are perspective views respectively similar to Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of a modification of the device shown in Fig. 1.
This invention is concerned with means for closing and opening. It will be described in connection with the cover of a container. The opening can, of course, also be used at an end, side or bottom of the container.
In the drawings, the numeral l denotes a container made of any suitable material and in any suitable fashion either from one or. more pieces of material. The sections or folding tabs H are 1 folded to extend at least in part over the top of the container and may be integral with or connect with some other portion of the container, such as the ends 12. A score line I3 separates the tab II from the end l2 and is usually placed along the edge of the container. It may, however, be on either side of said edge. A cover section It is adapted to be folded down over the tab sections it and be secured to them by any proper means as, for example, by an adhesive. The cover section is hingedly connected to an adjacent section, which may be the back i5 of the container. This hinge It may be simply a bend in the material. Another section I6 is adapted to be folded down over section it and to be secured thereto. It may be attached to a front section ll of the container which may be oppo site the back section i5, and at an angle with the ends H. A score line 58 is provided separating the section It from the integrally-adjacent portion of the container. The score line may be alsng or on either side of the top front edge, for example. Preferably, a deviation in this score line takes in a part of the adjacent portion of the device, so as to form a tab it.
In assembling the device, the tab sections H are folded in, the section it is secured to thesections H and section 16 is folded down upon and secured to section it. When it is desired to open the device, the score line it is broken and I tab 19 is taken hold of and raised, with the result that the cover I6 is pulled up with the cover I4 underlying it and the sections ll are broken along their score lines i3, so that they also ride on the under side of the cover. In this way the tight-sealed package is completely opened to give a wide-open face, through which all of the contents of the box may be immediately dispensed.
The carton sealed and enclosed in a wrapper 2| is shown in Fig. 4. The wrapper may be sealed to the carton on one or more of the sides, top or bottom. It may have a score line It in registry with the score l8 and/or there may be indicia showing where the wrapper is to be broken. The score line 18' may extend along the sides of the top of the carton In Figs. 5, 6 and 7 there is shown a modification of the above-described device. Score lines 20 on the cover section I4 define areas which. when the cover section is closed, are superimposed over the tabs II. The cover section is secured to the tabs in the areas which are at least partly defined by the score lines 20. There need be no score lines on the tab sections i i. Otherwise the construction is the same as hereinabove described. In opening the box, the score line I8 is broken, the tab I9 is used to raise the cover section l6, which pulls with it the cover It so that both pivot about the hinge I l of the latter. The areas defined by the score lines 20 remain secured to the tabs II, and the score lines 20 break away.
Since certain changes may be made in the above article and diilferent embodiments of the invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
It is also understood that the following claims are intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the invention herein described, and all statements of the scope of the invention which as a matter or language, might be said to fall therebetween.
