Fig. 10 shows a construction of the edge extension piece;
Fig. 11 shows in side elevation the application of the invention in the case of a hard tool having a circular transverse cross-section;
Fig. 12 a plan corresponding to Fig. 11, and Fig. 13 a front elevation corresponding to Fig. 11.
In the case of the construction according to Figs. 1-5 a diamond a is secured on the holder 2) in a well-known manner with the aid of a clamping piece d, a fitting plate 0, situated between said holder b and clamping piece d, and screw e.
The setting device consists in the case of the illustrative example, of a cover 1, which fits accurately over the clamping plate (1 and which can be fixed with the aid of a screw g. On the undersidevof this cover f there is fastened by means of screws h the setting plate 2', which consists, of sheet steel, celluloid or other suitable material. The front boundary line k of the plate 2 is an enlargement to a highly enlarged scale of the cutting edges of the diamond. The plate 1 is provided with a recess m into which the diamond projects. In order to protect the diamond edges from injuries from above, a protective plate (see Figs. 8, 9, ll, 12 and i3) is arranged over the recess m. In order to be able to set, or to limit, the distance of the front part of the plate 2' from the diamond, there is provided on the cover 1 a screw it the point of which abuts against the front of clamping plate d and forms a stop.
In the case of the embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figs. 6 and 7 a magnifying glass 0 is provided with which the cover I is connected and on which the setting-plate i is secured with the aid of a holder 1' (or the like). The setting-plate i is suitably provided with a scale of the type illustrated and is so set that on viewing coincidence between the diamond and the cross-thread or thread 5 in the magnifying glass, the front edge of the plate 2 gives the correct position of the cutting edge of the diamond. In order to be able exactly to set the small angle possibly necessary between the cutting edge and the work, the plate 1' (Fig. '7) may be provided with a graduated scale 15.
The lateral setting may also as is evident from Fig. 6, be effected by setting or turning the magnifying glass, the angle of deviation being able to be read off on a scale S, which is situated above a fixed pointer 7' (Fig. 6) on the magnifying glass 0.
In the case of the construction according to Figs. 8 and 9 there is fitted by means of a screw it arranged on the cover 1 and a nut v engaging said screw a member :1: provided with a slot 112 for the screw it. The edge y of member a: projects downwards as far as is desired and is arranged parallel to the corresponding settingedge of theplate i or if the plate 2' be absent, parallel to or at a definite angle to the diamond cutting-edge. Thus, this edge 1 not only provides protection for the setting plate 2', but can also be used as a substitute for this setting plate 2', since it is so constructed that its front edge can be adjusted to be parallel with the front edge of the setting plate 1'. A special slot .2 enables the diamond to be observed from above. With the aid of the member a: which can be set by being turned and shifted, the exact lateral setting of the cutting-edge may consequently in this case be eifected because the front edge y can be set to form any angle with the front edge-of the setting plate 1'.
In Fig. 10 a modification of the construction of the edge-extension is illustrated. In this case, a piece 2', similar to a ruler, is fastened to the plate 2 by means of a screw 2' in such a manner as to be capable of being rotated and of being displaced horizontally in a slot i of the plate.
In the case illustrated, the long edge of the piece 1" is adjusted to be parallel to the front part 1: of the boundary line of the plate 2 so as to increase its effective length.
The embodiment of the invention represented in Figs. 11 to 13 shows the application of the invention in the case of a holder b of round cross-section which carries the diamond a. In this case the clamping piece is formed as a cylindrical sleeve I which can be pushed on the holder 12 and which is fixed in position with the aid of the clamping-screw g and which is kept from rotating by means of a pin 9 which engages with its front end in a groove provided in the holder 12 The sleeve 1 is provided above with an observation-hole m The setting plate 2 is fixed on the sleeve f with the aid of screws 2' and a protective plate Z of mica or other transparent material is connected thereto. The plate I covers the diamond and protects it from injury, to which it might be liable on account of the existence of the observation-hole m What I claim is:
