My invention relates to improvements in bottle bottom inserting and spinning mechanism for paper bottle making machines, and the object of the invention is to devise a simple mechanism 5 for automatically successively feeding discs to parts in the position'they assume when the botthe point of insertion and inserting them in the bottle bottom and then transferring the bottle body and the inserted disc to a spinning point, and then spinning the edge of the bottle body and disc; and it consists'essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as hereinafter more particularly explained.

I indicates the body of the machine upon which is secured a bracket 2 carrying a standard 3 provided with a vertical slot 4, from which extends studs 5 and 6 adjacent its upper and lower ends, carrying friction rollers 'l and 48. 9 isy a bar which fits between the upper and lower pairs of friction rollers 'I and 8 to move vertically therebetween.

20 is a flange plate carried by the bracket 2 extending in a vertical position and in which is located the orifices 2| and 22. 23 is a trough like receptacle secured at one end in the orice 2l, the inner end of the trough being provided with a circular portion 24 fitting the orice 2l and extending flush with the outer face of the flange plate 20. 25 is a stationary` rod extending from the flange plate 20 and on which is slidably mounted the hub 26` of a pressure plate .21 so as to slide longitudinally thereof. 28 is a pile of discs which are to be fed forward by the pressure of the plate 21 bearing against the rear end of the pile, such pressure being exerted by a weight 29 hung upon a cable 3U extending over guide pulleys 3l and 32.
33 is a long arm secured at the opposite end of the rocking shaft I I, the inner face of which slidably engages the outer face of the ange plate 20 and has formed therein a circular recess 34 corresponding in depth to the depth of each disc of the pile 28 and from which extends an orifice 35 through which the inserting plunger hereinafterdescribed operates.
By the operation of the cam I1 imparting ver- 'tical movement to the bar 9, the shaft I I is rocked so as to swing the arm 33 so that the recess 34 is alternately in a position concentric with the orifice 2l and the orifice 22 of the flange plate 20. Whenthe recess 34 is opposite the orifice 2|, the operation of the pressure plate 2l forces one of the discs of` the pile 28 into the recess 34. The

42 is a cam secured to the shaft I6 and provided with a cam groove 43 into which the cam roller 44 extends, the cam roller 44 being carried by the pusher rod 40. It will, therefore, be seen that the cam 42 is so timed thatwhen the disc 28 is brought opposite to the orifice 22 the pusher rod and head 4I are forced forward to insert the disc in the bottle body as above described.

The upper portion of the bearing member 41 is formed into a longitudinal guideway 48 in which is slidably mounted an upper bearing member 49 carrying the spaced apart bearings 49x and 49. 50 is a short shaft `iournalled in the bearings 49x and 49 and bearing at its inner end against a thrust bearing 5I. end of the bearing member 49.

`What I claim'as my invention is:
1. In a paper bottle making machine, the combination with a movable carrier for the open ended bottle bodies, a paper disc holder, means for feeding the discs to a position opposite the open end of the bottle, means forforcing the discs into the bottom end so as to fit within the bottle body, means for spinning the end edge of the bottle body and the upset portion of the disc inward, such means comprising a suitably driven shaft mounted in a stationary bearing member, a longitudinally movable bearing member mounted upon the stationary bearing 4member, a shaft journalled in the movable bearing member, a broad toothed gear secured to the shaft of the movable bearing member, a narrow toothed gear mounted upon a suitable driven shaft in mesh with the broad toothed gear, a spinning head secured to the longitudinally movable shaft, and cam means for forcing the movable bearing member longitudinallvvagainst the open end of the bottle when brought to the spinning position.
2. In a paper bottle making machine, the combination with a movable carrier for the open ended bottle bodies, a paper disc holder, means for feeding the discs to a position opposite the open end of the bottle, means for forcing the discs into the bottom end so as to iitwithin the bottle body,`means for spinning the end edge of the bottle body and the upset portion of the disc inward, such means comprising a suitably driven shaft mounted in a stationary bearing member, a
journalled in the movable bearing member, a
broad toothed gear secured to the shaft of the movable bearing member, a narrow toothed gear mounted upon a suitable driven shaft in mesh with the broad toothed gear, a spinning head secured to the longitudinally movable shaft, cam means for forcing -the movable bearing member longitudinally against the open end of the bottle when brought to the spinning position, Vand meansl forv adjustingthe throw of the movable member. In a bottle bottom inserting mechanism for paper bottle making machines,a carrier for the discs forming the bottle bottoms, a rock shaft on which the disc carrier is mounted to swing to and from the bottle bottom inserting position, a crank arm secured to the shaft, a main driving shaft, a -cam. secured thereto, a bar guided to move longitudinally, a roller carried by the bar to coact with the cam, and a link connection between the bar and crank arm.

In a paper. bottle making machine, a bearing 1 member having opposed ,bearing portions and a slideway formed above such bearing portions, a drive shaft mounted in the bearing'portions, a pinion mounted on the drive shaft be tween such portions, a slide in the slideway having opposing bearing portions, a spinner shaft mounted in the slide, a'spinner head and a broad toothed gear mounted on the spinner shaft and held to move longitudinally with the slide when in mesh with the pinion of the drive shaft, and means for moving the spinner shaft and slide longitudinally.
