Abstract

In an articulated-arm awning comprising articulated arms that are supported via wall holders and the free outer end of which is connected in an articulated fashion to a drop-out profile, provision is made for the drop-out profile, as seen in the cross-section, to be designed as a U-profile that is open towards the wall holders and which, in the retracted position, largely encompasses the folded articulated arms.

Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention [0001]
  • The invention is directed to an articulated-arm awning comprising articulated arms that are supported by wall holders and the free outer end of which is connected in an articulated fashion to a drop-out profile. [0002]
  • 2. Background Art [0003]
  • Articulated-arm awnings of this type are known in various designs. In the so-called box-type awnings the articulated arms in their retracted position are housed inside a box that is firmly mounted on the wall, with the front of the box covered by the retracted drop-out profile. [0004]
  • It is furthermore known to provide roof-like covers above the winding shaft to protect the awning cloth in the retracted position against exposure to the elements. [0005]
  • The known designs have the shortcoming that they are relatively complex. [0006]
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • Based on the above as a starting point, the invention has as its object to improve an articulated-arm awning of the above type, particularly in an embodiment as an installation-tube free awning, in such a way that a simple construction and appealing appearance can be implemented both in the extended, as well as in the retracted position. [0007]
  • This object is met according to the invention in such a way that the dropout profile, as seen in the cross-section, is designed as a U-profile that is open towards the wall holders and largely encompasses the folded articulated arms in the retracted position. [0008]
  • This means that while the conventional drop-out profiles have no or at most a marginal extension towards the wall holders, provision is made according to the invention for the drop-out profile to be practically used as a housing for the articulated arms and the awning cloth that is fastened on the same. [0009]
  • In a further embodiment of the invention, provision may be made for side faces to be provided in the region of the wall holders, and for the inner end of the articulated arms to be connected in an articulated fashion to the inside front part of the side faces, so that an installation tube for attaching the articulated arms is rendered unnecessary.   • A particularly appealing aesthetic appearance is attained in such a way that the exterior configuration of the side faces in the retracted position is flush with the cross-section configuration of the drop-out profile and, on the whole, a closed and particularly elegantly rounded overall appearance is attained as a result.   • In accordance with a further advantageous design, provision is made for sliding caps to be disposed on the articulated arms, particularly on their center joint, which facilitate the retraction of the articulated arms into the drop-out profile when the articulated arms are not completely centered. These sliding caps may be implemented as sliding wedges or as rounded extensions or attachments. [0012]
  • The winding shaft is advantageously supported on a bracket which, in turn, is fixable to a wall holder, particularly by simple insertion. The side faces may be provided with support extensions that are supported on the brackets in a manner so that their slope can be adjusted. As a result, a highly compact and yet highly functional design is attained. [0013]
  • The invention will be explained in more detail below based on a preferred embodiment in conjunction with the drawing.[0014]

  • DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • An articulated-[0018] arm awning 1 shown in the drawing comprises two wall holders 2, two wall brackets 3 placed thereupon in a form-fitting connection, and a winding shaft 4 that serves to wind up the awning cloth and is supported in manner so that it can rotate around the shaft axis 5.
  • Disposed on the outside of the [0019] wall brackets 3 are side faces 6, on the inside of which two articulated arms 10 comprising two articulated- arm sections 8, 9 are fastened via a fastening extension 7. The inner articulated arm section 8 is connected to the fastening extension 7 via a pivot hinge 11, and on the other hand to the outer articulated arm section 9 via a pivot hinge 12, and the outer articulated arm section 9, in turn, is again connected via a pivot hinge 13 to the drop-out profile 14. The awning cloth, which is not shown per se, is fixed to the latter via edge profile grooves 14′.
  • The [0020] side faces 6 have on their inside a support extension 15 that is pivotably supported in a corresponding round support cutout 16 of the holding brackets 3.
  • The [0021] support extension 15 comprises a section 17 in the shape of a segment of a circle, and a cam section 18, with the cam section in turn comprising a curved section 19 with a smaller curvature radius than the circular segment-shaped support cutout 16, and a shoulder 20 that is formed in this manner.
  • The [0022] wall bracket 3 is provided with two parallel threaded bores 21, 22 extending at a distance from one another for set screws 23, 24, with the first set screw 23 ending in the region of the support extension 15 in such a way that it comes to rest below the shoulder 20 so that it supports the shoulder 20 from below and an axial shifting of the set screw 23 that serves to adjust the slope changes the angle position of the support extension 15 and thus also the angle position of the connected side face 6 and accordingly, in turn, also the angle position of the articulated arms 10 that are fixed to the side face 6. The second set screw 24 prevents the support extension 15 from being twisted in an upward direction, so that protection is also attained in this manner against a lifting by gusty winds, etc.
  • The comparison of FIGS. 2 and 3 clearly shows how changing the position of the [0023] set screw 23 and the set screw 24, respectively, permits the position of the articulated arms 10 and accordingly also of the drop-out profile 14 to be changed from a horizontal position, i.e., one with a slope of 0° shown in FIG. 2, to a position sloped by 30° shown in FIG. 3.
  • The drop-out [0024] profile 14 is designed U-shaped in cross-section and, in its retracted position, encompasses the articulated arms 10 like a box.
  • A sliding cap [0025] 25, which facilitates sliding of the drop-out profile over the articulated arms 10 when they are slightly off center, is disposed on the upper side above the pivot hinge 12 between the inner articulated-arm section 8 and the outer articulated-arm section 9.

Claims (6)

What is claimed is:
1. An articulated-arm awning comprising articulated arms that are supported via wall holders and the free outer end of which is connected in an articulated fashion to a drop-out profile, wherein the drop-out profile (14) is designed, as seen in the cross-section, as a U-profile that is open towards the wall holders (2) and, in the retracted position, largely encompasses the folded articulated arms (10).
2. An articulated-arm awning according to claim 1, wherein side faces (6) are disposed in the region of the wall holders (2) and the inner end of the articulated arms (10) is connected in an articulated fashion to the front inside of the side faces (6).
3. An articulated-arm awning according to claim 2, wherein the exterior configuration of the side faces (6) in the retracted position is flush with the cross-section configuration of the drop-out profile (14).
4. An articulated-arm awning according to claim 1, wherein the articulated arms (10) have disposed on them, particularly on their center joint, sliding caps (25) that facilitate the retraction of the articulated arms (10) into the drop-out profile (14) when the articulated arms (10) are not completely centered.
5. An articulated-arm awning according to claim 1, wherein the winding shaft (14) is supported at both ends on a bracket (3), which, in turn, is connectable to a wall holder (2).
6. An articulated-arm awning according to claim 1, wherein the side faces (6) are provided with support extensions (15) that are supported on the brackets (3) in a manner so that their slope is adjustable.
