v The present invention'. relates to improvements Jin the class of mechanical razors, in which the movement of the cutting blade is 'longitudinal' to the cutting edges and actuated forward by the s gers of the operating hand and backwards by spring power.
The object of the present invention represents a practical and'economical mechanical razor, as i wellv as a safety razor, with provisions for a better sliding system, with automatic adjustment of the guide and a provision for protecting the extreme corners of the cutting blade at the cutting side along their" movement,` forr not hurting the skin, and a better arrangement for removing or inserting the lcutting blade without having .a loose part, and also is provided with a better and smpliiied spring mechanism for the backwards motion of the blade. C
The said provisions are united in a few members arranged in a manner for giving the razor a very narrow at shape.
The features of my invention will be furt rf disclosed and better explained in the course of t e following description, in the appended claims and by the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a s ide elevation of the razor in accord ance with the present invention;

A The razor, which may be made from any suitable metal or material, stamped or molded, comprises a casing 2, a slide 3 carrying a razor blade 5, and sliding together longitudinally to the ,cutting edges of said blade in a guide formed by casing 2 anda cover I.
The slide 3 is actuated forward by the fingers of the operating hand and backwards by a flexion spring 4, which is U-shape like set in the casing 2, in the way that the extended ends of spring 4 enter in a cutting out provided in the slide 3 with opening against the ends of said spring 4, whereat the one end of spring l serves for -pushing back the' slide 3, while the other end serves for stopping the motion when slide 3 is in position; so that in the U-shaped spring 4 the back drive and stop are united to simplify this mechanism.

(ci. en -12) bearing for the drivingend of spring i, and at the same time it is serving as a lock to hinder the slide for falling out or off from its seat, when the cover I is turned aside for clearing the sliding mechanism and for 4removing or inserting the razor blade.
When intended to take a complete cleaning of the sliding mechanism, the slide 3 is also easy to remove or to insert on account of the said cutting out, whereby-the engaged ends of the springt are cleared and. the slide 3 can be drawn 0R. without removing the spring t.
n the slide 3 are provided a number of pins, I0, set in or cast on said slide, for holding the razor blade in position.
Further are provided parallel ribs, it, longitudinal to and on slide 3, whereon is resting the blade 5, and said blade is held von its seat and guided by opposite ribs, l5 and I2, on the inside of the cover I, whereat these ribs, I5 and I2, are parallel to .the ribs, i6, on
the slide V3, but displaced to each other for sev-l vis--vis to the ribs on the cove:` l and not displaced to them, then would be no elasticity be,-
tween cover, blade, slide and casing.
Under such conditions, as said example, any variation caused by tightening the cover on its seat would cause squeezing the blade between the ribs, the same would happen when hairs cut ofi are coming between blade and ribs during the shaving act and the razor would not work.
The cover l is arranged to turn aside, swivel like, for opening the razor and for removing or inserting the razor blade or cleaning the sliding mechanism.
Said cover has its seat on adjusting screws 9,' which are located on a circle around the stud 'Il on casing 2.
The adjusting screws 9 are provided with pivots ,and said pivots enter into pivot holes provided on the cover l, to hold said cover in position.
On account of the screws 9 the cover is ad-k 'I'his would be`a second adjustment for the guide, in respect to the automatic adjustment with the aid of the elasticity of the blade. A
The cover is opened by slackening the nut 8 on the stud l, and on said stud 1 provided a little spring 6 (coiled or any other shape) to lift the cover I by disengaging the pivots of the adjusting screws 9 from the pivot holes, so as to be able to turn said cover aside.
The cover I is shaped outside at thecutting side like a guard (I2) along the effective cutting: line Y for the cutting edges exposed to the skin of the face, and this guard -is extended on both sides X, but drawn forth to cover entirely the corners of the cutting blade along their movement for not coming in contact with the skin.v
On the cutting side the casing 2 is provided with teeth' II as guard, whichforms with the corresponding guard I2 on the cover I, the safety razor.
What I claim is:
1. A mechanical razor comprising a casing member and a cover connected thereto by a swivel, both said cover and'casing being elongated, one end of each serving as a handle portion and the opposite respective ends being formed to receive a movable blade carriage, said blade carriage having a notch on the rear edge, the upper surface having blade engaging lugs, and a longitudinally extending rib on each side of said lugs, said cas'- ing member at its blade carriage receiving end being recessed on its upper surface to accommodate said carriage and a U-shaped spring also received in said recess, one leg of said U being anchored to the casing and the other leg engaging in said notch in said carriage, said cover being grooved on its under face at its carriage receiving end and said grooves forming ribs which are adapted to engage the upper surface of a blade positioned on the carriage, said ribs being parallel to but out of alignment with said ribs on the.
carriage, said swivel being adapted to be Itightened to cause the ribs to engage the blade and cause it to be flexed transversely, the casing having guard teeth at theend adjacent the carriage receiving groove, one end of said blade carriage normally extending beyond one side4 of said casing and adapted to be engagedby the finger of the user to reciprocate the carriage in one direction, and said spring serving to reciprocate said carriage in the opposite direction.
2. A mechanical razor comprising 1a casing member and a cover connected thereto by a swivel, both said cover and casing being elongated, one end of each serving as a handle portion and the-opposite respective ends being formed to receive a movable blade carriage, said blade carriage having a notch on the rear edge, the upper surface having blade engaging lugs, and a longitudinally extending rib on each side of said lugs, said casing member at its blade carriage receiving end beingrecessed on its upper surface to accommodate said carriage and a U-shaped spring also received in said recess, one leg of said U being engaged in said notch, the portion of said leg engaging in said notch being held in a little keyway or groove in said n'otch to bar said carriage for falling olf from its seat when the said cover is turned aside, the other leg engaging also in said notch and serving to stop the motion when said blade carriage is in its initial position, said cover being grooved on its under face at its carriage receiving end and said grooves forming ribs which are adapted to engage the upper surface of a blade positioned on .the carriage, said ribs being parallel to but out of alignment with said ribs on y the carriage, said swivel being adapted to be tightened to cause the ribs to engage the blade and cause it to be flexed transversely, the casing having guard teeth at the end adjacent the carriage receiving groove, one end of said blade carriage normally extending beyond one side of said casing and adapted to be engaged by the finger of the user to reciprocate the carriage in one direction, and saidsprng serving to reciprocate said carriage in the opposite direction;
3. A mechanical razor comprising a casing member and a cover connected thereto by a swivel, both said cover and casing being elongated. cane end of each serving as a handle portion and the lopposite respective ends being formed to receive a movable blade carriage, said blade carriage having a notch on the rear edge, the upper surface having blade engaging lugs, and a longitudinally extending rib on each side of said lugs, said casing member at its blade carriage receiving end being recessed on its upper surface to accommodate said carriage and a U-shaped spring also received in said recess, one leg of said U 'being engaged in said notch, the portion of said leg'en- 1' gaging in said notch being held in a little keyway or groove in said notch to bar said cover is turned aside, the other leg engaging also in said notch and serving to stop the motion when said blade carriage is in its initial position, said cover being grooved on its under face at its carriage receiving end and said grooves forming ribs which' are adapted to engage the upper surface of a blade positioned on the carriage, said ribs being parallel to but out of alignment with said ribs on the l carriage, said swivel adapted to be tightened to cause the ribs to engage the blade and cause it to be flexed transversely, the casing having guard teeth at the end adjacent the carriage receiving groove, one end of said blade carriage-normally extending beyond one side of said casing vand adapted to be engaged bythe iinger ofthe user to reciprocate the carriage in one direction, and said spring serving to reciprocate said carriage in the opposite direction, said cover at-its blade -carriage receiving end on the outside having a guard along the effective line for the cutting edge exposed lto the skin, and said guard being extended on both sides but drawn forth to cover entirely the corners of the cutting blade along their movement for Anot coming in contact with the skin.
4. A mechanical razor comprising a casing member and a cover connected thereto by a swivel, both said cover and casing being elongated, one end oi' each serving as handle portion and the opposite respective ends being-formed'to receive a movable blade carriage, said blade 'carriage having a notch on the rear edge, the upper surface having blade engaging lugs, and a' longitudinally extending rib or a number of longitudinally extending ribs on said blade carriage surface, said casing member at its blade carriage receiving end being recessed on its upper surface to accommodate said carriage and a U-shaped l spring also received in said recess, one leg of said U being engaged in said notch, and the portion of said leg engaging in said notch being held in a little keyway or groove in said notch to bar said carriage for falling of! from its seat when said cover is turned aside, the other leg engaging also in said notch and serves for stopping the motion when said blade carriage is in its initial position, sad cover beinggroovod on its under fact at its carriage receiving end and said grooves forming ribs which are adapted to engage the upper surface of a blade positioned on the carriage, said ribs being pa'rallel to but out of-alignment .with said ribs on the carriage, said swivel being adapted to be tightened to cause the ribs to engage the `blade and to cause it to be iiexed transversely, the
