The member 13 is cylindrical and provided with an annular flange 13K-fitting the edge recess 11x and from which .extend pins 13 longitudinally opvposite the pins 111. The sleeve 13 is provided at its opposite end with a threaded extension 13' which, When the parts are assembled, projects 35 through the disc 2.

The height of the pin 27 corresponds to the thickness of the 55 disc 20X. 28 is a central orice into which the guiding pin extends and 29 are orices located on diametrically opposite sides of the central orice 28 in which the pins 13 and 14 engage alternately.
When the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 2 the disc 20X is turned freely within the recess 2x by means of the knurled nut 25, the member 13 being also turned by means of the pins 13 located' in the oriiices 29 together with the disc 18 which is clamped to the member 13 by the nut 19. Unless the operator knows the combination nothing further can take place and the key 1'7 cannot be operated.
If it is desired to engage the key 17 to operate the ignition lock, thel disc 18is set so that the combination number is opposite the; pointer 30. This operation carries the notch 22 opposite the projection 21. The knurled nuts 8 are then turned to carry their combination numbers opposite to their'respective indicating pointers 31 bringing the tongues 6 opposite to the notches 23 previously located in the required position by setting of the notch 22 opposite the tongue projection 21.
When the combination is thus set the `operator presses upon the nut` 2,5 carrying the stem 2O and disc 20X inward from the position illustrated in Figs. Zand 13 so that the orices 29 almost clear the pins 13o and engage the pins 14, the tongues 21 and 6 passing through the notches`22 and23 so asto assume the position illustrated in Figs. 3
and 14. Simultaneously the projection 27 ,enters the slot 26 so as to limit its turning movement. When'the parts are so positioned the turning of f the nut 25 rotates the stem 20, disc20X and key stem 12 connected to the disc 28X by the pins 14 to operate the key 17 toopen or close the ignition lock. 'I'he rotation of the disc 20X is limited to turn between these two positions by means of the slot 26 coacting with the stop pin 27.
When the disc 20X is withdrawn to the position shown in Fig. 2 .it is 'turned so that the notch 22 is carried out of line with the projection 21 and th'ediscs 5x to the positions shown in Fig. 5 so as to overlap the disc 20x and prevent its longitudinal movement into engagement with the pins 14.
If it is desired to change the combination a suitable instrument is Apassed throughv the orifice 32 into engagement with the disc 2OX to prevent its rotation. The nuts 25 and 8 are then loosened and the discs 18 and 9 turned to any desired position to bring new numbers opposite to the pointers and 31. l From this description it will be seen .that I have'devised a very simple form of combination lock for ignition switches which can be easily engaged by pressing on the operating nut 25 when the combination is set and which nut can be freely turned when withdrawn and the combination in the unset position so that no ,engagement can vbe made by an unautho-rizedperson who does not known the combination.
What I claim as my` invention is:-
1. A combination ignition lock comprising a lock body, a rotatable key stem and a rotatable and longitudinally movable operating stem mounted in the body in axial alignment, a graduated d isc mountedconcentrically .with the operating stem, means for engaging the operating stem and disc when the stem is in the outward position and disengageable by the inward moveL ment of the stem, means for engaging the operating stem with the key stem when the operating stem is in the inward position, and means for `normally holding the operating stem outrof en'- 1,994,24o v s position and disengageable by the inward move# ment of the stem, means for engaging the operating stem with the key stem when the operating stem is in the inward position, means fornormally Vholding the operating stem out of engagement with thekey stem by the turning of the operating stem and disc to a predetermined position, and a plurality of graduated supplemental discs turnably mounted in the body to be set at any predetermined position and means coacting with the supplemental discs to release Athe operating stem to move ,longitudinally when inthe set position and to prevent such movement whenin the unset position.

jections extending-from the. inneriend vnizsuch member to normally engage the notched disc, pins extending from the key stem in axial alignment with the aforesaid pins and adapted to engage the notched disc when such disc is moved out of engagement with the pins of the member, settable combination devices coacting with the notches of the disc for permitting when in the set position the longitudinal movement of the disc and operating shaft and preventing such movement when in the unset position, a graduated disc mounted concentric to the operating stem and releasably clamped thereto, and a graduated disc coacting with each combination device and releasably clamped thereto.
6. A combination ignition lock comprising a lock body having a central chamber, a key stem and operating stem journalled in opposite Walls of the chamber in axial alignment, a disc carried on the operating stem Within the chamber and having a plurality of edge notches, a projection extending from the Wall of the chamber adapted to pass through one of said notches when the disc and operating shaft are moved longitudinally, a member mounted in the body concentric With theoperating shaft and turnable therewith, pin projections extending from the inner end of such member to normally engage the notched disc, pins extending from the key stem in axial alignment with the aforesaid pins and adapted to engage the notched disc when such disc is moved out of engagement with the pins of the member, settable combination devices coacting with the notches of the disc for permitting when in the set position the longitudinal movement of the disc and operating shaft rand preventing such movement when in the unset position, such combination devices each comprisu ing a disc turnably mounted on the body and the projection of the body passes through its corresponding notch in the notched disc, a graduated disc mounted concentric to the operating stem and releasably clamped thereto, and a graduated disc coacting with each combination device and releasably clamped thereto.
7. A combination ignition lock comprising a lock body having a central chamber, a key stem and operating stem journalled in opposite walls of the chamber in axial alignment, a disc carried on the operating stem Within the chamber and having a plurality of edge notches, a member mounted in the body concentric with the operating shaft and turnable therewith, Ypin projections extending from the inner end of such member to normally engage the notched disc, pins extending from the key stem in axial alignment with the aforesaid pins and adapted to engage the notched disc when such disc is moved out of engagement with the pins of the member, settable combination devices coacting with the notches of the disc for permitting when in the set position the longitudinal movement of the disc and operating shaft and preventing such movement when in the unset position, means for limiting the turning movement of the operating stem when in engagement with .the key stem to correspond with turning limit of the key, such means comprising a projection extending from the bottom of the chamber, and an arc shaped slot in the notched disc into which the projection extends when the disc and key stem are in engagement.
8. In a combination ignition lock, a rotatable key Stem, a rotatable operating stem in axial alignment with the key stem, visible settable means coacting with the operating stem for indicating the engaging position of the operating stem with the key stem, and means for simultaneously engaging the set operating stem with the key stem and disengaging the operating stem from the indicating means.
