Description

L. COHEN March 5, 1935.
HATREST Filed June 12, 1954 Patented Mar. 5, 1935 UNITED STATES HAT REST
Leon Cohen, Los Angeles, Calif. Application June 12, 1934, Serial No. 730,204
3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in hat rests designed to support hats upon hat stands. Heretofore, suitable hat rests have been designed adapted to be applied to suitable hat stands so as to support a hat in proper position thereon. The
conventional hat stand has an ornamental wooden knob or button at its top and in applying hat rests to the stands of this character the prior practice has been to have the knob or button removed to enable application of the hat rests. Frequent users of hat rests of this character object to removing the ornamental wooden knob or button at the top of the hat stand for purposes of application of the hat rests.
An object of the present invention is to provide an improved hat rest which is so designed that it may be easily, quickly and firmly applied to a hat stand having the ornamental knob or button without requiring removal of the knob or button for purposes of installation.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will be made manifest in the following detailed description, and specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference is had to the accompanying drawing for an illustrative embodiment of the invention, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a hat stand to which a hat rest embodying the invention has been applied.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the hat rest illustrating it as having been applied to a hat stand.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken substantially upon the line 3-3 upon Fig. 2 in the direction indicated.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, wherein similar reference characters designate similar parts throughout, the improved hat rest consists of a dome-shaped member 10 preferably formed of sheet metal such as, for example, soft sheet brass. This may be spun or stamped into the desired shape and may have a cellulose coating sprayed on its exterior. For purposes of strengthening or reinforcing the dome-shaped member it may have a series of annular crimps 11 shown as being concentrically arranged and connected to each other by radial crimps 12. The presence of these annular and radial crimps is optional. As a means for attaching the domeshaped member to a hat stand S Without removing the ornamental wooden knob or button K, a disk of soft sheet brass 13 is soldered or otherwise secured to the under side of the dome-shaped member. This disk has a plurality of radially extending arms 14 which are readily bendable and which may or may not be longitudinally crimped, as by a crimp 15. The disk 13 is rough- 1y of the size of the top of the button or knob K and the arms 15 are of such length as to be bendable over the sides of the button and against its under side, as shown on Fig. 2. As the knob K is relatively flat as to height and presents a relatively flat under surface when the arms are bent around its edges and against the under side the dome-shaped member will not have a tendency to tilt thereon on the application of a hat thereto. Being of soft brass, these arms will remain in those positions intowhich they are bent. The longitudinal crimps 15, which are optional, serve merely to stiffen these arms.
From the above described construction it will be appreciated that an improved hat rest is'provided which can be easily, quickly, and cheaply Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A hat rest comprising a dome-shaped member formed of sheet metal, and a disk of sheet metal secured to its under side-at about its center, said disk providing a plurality of outwardly extending bendable arms, said arms being longitudinally crimped for stiifening purposes.
2. A hat rest comprising a dome-shaped member formed of sheet metal, and a disk of sheet metal secured to its under side at about its center, said disk providing a plurality of outwardly extending bendable arms, said dome-shaped member being annularly and radially crimped for stiffening purposes.
3. A hat rest comprising a standard, a knob at the top of the standard which is relatively flat as to height, a hollow, dome-shaped member, a substantially fiat disk secured to the under side of the dome-shaped member atabout the center. thereof and resting directly on top of the knob thereby LEON COHEN
