An object of this invention is to provide a,

A further object of thisinvention is to provide a relatively simple bottle washing means which is so constructed as to provide a minimum number of parts so that itwill not readily get out of order, thereby making it possible to produce the device at a relatively small cost.
The above and various other objects and advantages of this invention will be described in and be understood from the following detailed description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:-

Referring to the drawing wherein like charac-V ters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the letter H designates generally a housing or casing which is supported by'a plurality of leg members 10, these members 10 having inturned feet portions 11 and y a horizontal upper end portion 12 which is secured to the bottom of the housing H by means or" screws or bolts 13, or the like. This housing H is of annular construction and is provided with an intake member 14 to which a nipple l5 is secured as by threading, and a flexible hose 16 may be disposed about this nipple or nozzle 15, the opposite end of the hose 16 bedevice.

The housing H is provided with an annular chamber 17 and the intake member 14 is provided with a port 18 disposed tangentially of the annular chamber 17, so that the stream of water or liquid will strike the outer edges of arcuate blades 19 carriedby a turbine wheel or rotor 20.
This wheel or power member 20 is mounted on a vertically disposed shaft 21 journaled in a lower bearing 22 of the housing H, and a bushing 2S is provided about the lower end of the vshaft 21. Thisbushing 23 may be constructed of brass or bronze or other suitable material so as to facilitate rotation of the shaft 2l without undue wear on the bearing 22. This shaft 21 is hollow and the housing H is provided with a passage 24 communicating with the lower end of the shaft 21, and a pipe 25 is connected at one end-to this passage 24 and theopposite end projects into the intake'port 18 and is preferably cut on a bevel so as to by-pass a small quantity of water passing through the intake port 18 and force this water upwardly through the hollow shaft 21. A needle valve member 26 is threaded into a projection 26h carried by the housing H and projects into the passage 24 so as to control the quantity of water passing through this passage upwardly through the shaft 21.
A cap or upper plate 26a is secured as by bolts 27 to the top of the housing H and is provided with a central bearing 28 through which the shaft 21 projects upwardly beyond the housing H. This top plate cover 26a is also provided with a bushing 29 and -a lubricating passage 30 is provided in the plate 26a and communicates with the bore of the bushing 29 so that a suitable lubricant may be provided for this shaft. A set screw 31 closes the upper end of this lubricant passage 30 so that no water or the like will enter this passage during the operation of the A lower thrust element 32 is interposed between the turbine wheel 20 and the top of the bearing 22 and is disposed about the shaft 2l and in like manner, a second or upper thrust bearing 33 is interposed between the bearing 28 and the top of the turbine wheel 20.
A draining member, generally designated as 34, is secured as by bolts or screws 35 to the top plate 26a, and this draining member 32 is provided with an upstanding marginal flange 36. The central portion of this draining member 34 is recessed, as at 37, and this recess 37 communicates with a draining passage 38 provided in a draining spout 39 formed with the member 34.
This draining spout 39 extends beyond the marginal edge of the housing H and is adapted to drain oir any water flowing downwardly in a bottle B which is supported by the draining mem-h ber 34. A rotatable brush 38a is secured by means of a coupling 39a, to the upper end of the hollow shaft 2l and the brush 38a has a bore therethrough which is open at the upper end so that water passing upwardly through the shaftv 21 will be projected outwardly through 'the top of the brush element and will flow downwardly in the bottle B and be engaged with the surface of the bottle by the bristles of this brush.
This brush 38d may be provided with a metal or tubular central portion about which a relatively hard rubber or composition material is mounted and the bristles of the brush are preferably embedded or secured to this rubber or composition material. As will be noted from the drawing, the intake passage 18 is constructed in tapering form so as to restrict the stream o' water striking the blades 19 of the turbine wheel 20 and to thereby increase the force of the water so that the desired rotation cf the turbine wheel will be eiected.
In the use of this device, the bottle B, which may be of any desired configuration, is slipped over the brush element 38a with the neel; of the bottle resting on the draining member 34. The water may then be turned on so as to flow through the flexible tube 16 and into the housing H, thereby rotating the turbine wheel 2li. The water after striking the blades 19 may pass out of the housing H through an outlet port 4G which may be either provided in the wall or bottom of the housing H. In the present instance,
this outlet 40 has beenr disclosed as being in theY bottom of the housing H. Simultaneously with the rotation of the turbine 20 and the shaft 2l, the brush 38a will be rotated within the bottle and a small stream of water regulatedy by means of the valve 26 will flow upwardly through the interior of the brush element and be projected against the inverted bottom of the bottle. This water will drain downwardly in the bottle and onto the draining member 34 and will flow outwardly through the spout 39 passing beneath the neck of the bottle through the recesses 37 and 38.
It is, of course, understood that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of vconstruction and design of the above specifically described embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claim.
What is claimed isz- A bottle washer comprising a housing, means for supporting a bottle on the top of the housing, a power wheel within the housing, a tubular shaft extending through the wheel for rotatably mountingl the wheel in the housing, said shaft extending through the top of the housing and having a threaded upper end portion, a hollow brush member having a threaded lower portion,
threaded coupling means engaging the threaded lower end of the brush and the threaded upper end of the shaft to secure the brush to the shaft,
a nozzle carried by the housing and positioned y to direct a iiuid against said power wheel, a pipe having one end thereof positioned in the path of the iiuid projected from the nozzle to by-pass a quantity of fluid, a projection on the bottom of -the housing, a bearing for the lower end of said DOMENICO V.
