St. John, East Haven, Conn. Application January 22, 1934, Serial No. 707,662
3 Claims. (01. 12e- 5s) I This invention relates to improvement in water-heaters for oil-burners, and particularly for oil-burners placed in ranges and including two burners arranged side by side, each having perforated shells between which the device is mounted, the object being to provide a device which will mainly stand above the burners so as to receive direct heat therefrom, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is a top view of a water-heater constructed in accordance with my invention and shown as located between two cylindrical oilburners;
Fig. 2 is an end view, partly in section, of the same;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the water-heater drum detached.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a heating-drum 10 formed with an inlet-opening 11 and an outlet-opening 12 to be respectively connected with pipes 13 to the water-supply and 14 leading to a tank or a faucet. Opposite the openings 11 and 12 are openings 15 and 16 which are preferably formed to facilitate casting and which are closed by plugs 17 and 18. The drum 10 has a comparatively-narrow lower portion 19 above which the side walls flare outwardly, forming flanges 20 and 21, and these flanges are inwardly bowed, and extending through the flanges are a series of holes 22.
The upper side wall or projecting sides of the drum extend over the burners 23 and 24, which are of usual construction, so that the heat from the adjacent sides of the burners will strike the sides of the upper portion of the drum and so heat those sides, as well as the flanges. This drum is formed in its lower edge with a socket 25 to set over a post 26, and is provided with an adjustable collar 27 to rest upon the bed 28 of the burners. By adjusting the collar, the drum may be raised or lowered as necessary to make the proper engagement with the pipes 13 and 14.
Within the drum, just below the pipe 14, is a baffle-plate 29, and at one side opposite the inletand outlet-openings is a port 30. Water entering through the pipe 13 will pass through the port 30 into the upper part of the drum, from which it is drawn off through the pipe 14.
By thus curving the side walls corresponding to the curvature of the burners, heat from the burners comes in direct contact with the drum, and the drum thereby becomes heated and heats the water in the upper part of the drum, and heat passing through the openings 21 may be utilized for heating or cooking purposes.
I thus provide in a very simple way a waterheater adapted to be located between two cylindrical oil-burners, and obtain heat directly therefrom.
I claim:
1. The combination with two cylindrical range oil-burners, of a water-heater comprising a drum formed with a narrow lower portion and outwardly-extending sides forming flanges at the top of the drum, and means for supporting the lower portion of the drum between the two burners, whereby the upper portion of the drum will project over the adjacent edges of the burners.
2. The combination with two cylindrical range oil-burners, of a water-heater comprising a drum formed with a narrow lower portion and outwardly-extending sides forming flanges at the top of the drum, the said flanges formed with vertically-arranged holes, and means for supporting the lower portion of the drum between the two burners, whereby the upper portion of the drum will project over the adjacent edges. of the burners.
3. The combination with two cylindrical range oil-burners, of a water-heater comprising a drum formed with a narrow lower portion, and outwardly-extending sides forming flanges at the top of the drum, inletand outlet-openings for the drum, a battle-plate between the inletand outlet-openings and formed near one end with a port, and means for supporting the lower portion of the drum between the two burners, whereby the upper portion of the drum will project over the adjacent edges of the burners.
EDWARD N. ST. JOHN.
